  1. Thanks, I always felt the clutch was naturally heavy, but maybe your right. Thanks for the info
  2. Hi, Could anyone advise whether the clutch on the manual 996's are heavy and as easy to stall on the boxster? I found that my boxster needed a good amount of revs and stop go traffic in town was a bit of a chore to drive. Is the clutch action on the 996 any better? Thanks in advance.
  3. Hi Folks, Am looking at a few 996's but am undecided which to go for, any thoughts on the differences in carrera 2 versus carrera 4. I've narrowed it to either a Carrera 2 Manual with Traction Control and LSD or Carrera 4 Tiptronic with PSM Is the carrera 4 with tiptronic much slower (and you only get 5 gears). Any advice by folks who have tried both appreciated. Cheers.
  4. Afraid not, unless you get hold of a second shifter to work on.
  5. Hi, Same applies re cel and overoiling, if its a heat shielded k+n filter charger you prob see some increase in hp but again weather it be noticeable. I had a k+n 57i type kit which you do get an induction roar but as it had not heat shield, it actually sapped power. Good luck with your mods. Hope that helps. Cheers
  6. If you are talking about the panel filter then, had on my previous cars and: 1. Prob makes no difference to perfromance that you woud notice, does make a better sound though 2. CEL will be triggered if the filter is overoiled and oil gets onto the maf 3. as above Hope that helps.
  7. Hi, Could anyone tell me when the speedo changed on the 996's. Is it true that pre 2001 facelift models had the digital speedo under the rev, counter but after 2001 the speedo was moved to the right? Did it change after that? Thanks.
  8. Hi, Just looking at some carrera's which have the 4 spoke steering wheel which i would like to upgrade to the 3 spoke sport steering wheel. But thinking is it possible to upgrade to a 997 steering wheel instead? Or would it not be backwards compatible? Any thoughts. Cheers. Dan
  9. Thanks guys, Dharn55, might PM you somewhere down the line for help :D Thanks.
  10. Thanks beecher, looks like the way to go, roughly how much did it cost to buy and fix if you dont mind me ask?
  11. That does sound odd? The 2.7 didnt come out till 2000?
  12. Hi, Has anyone retrofitted heated seats in their 996, I've been looking for the right spec car but heated seats in the 996 seems to be like gold dust. Compared to boxsters which had a lot specced with heated seats. I've seen some ebay ones but they were universal. Any thoughts?
  13. Thanks for the info, had a 1998 options list lying around have figured it out: 1. Mechanical Differential lock and traction control cost £985 UK back then 2. Traction Control (with Tiptronic S) £850 Looks like the options for that ran only in the 1998/1999 cars before PSM came in 2000 with the carrera 4. So has anyone tried the difference between one with the mech diff and one without or with the computer diff instead. Would be interesting to see if any difference?
  14. Thanks again, so looking for a carrera 2 with lsd the only way to tell is option code 220 Can anyone confirm whether traction control meant you got code 220 as well as randlj suggests. Cheers.
  15. Hi, Does any one know which of the 996 models have a mechanical slip differential? Is it the pre 2001 models or is it just the pre 2001 carrera 2 only? Many thanks!
  16. Hi, Could anyone tell me if the clear light pack from a boxster 986 which includes front lenses and infills, side indicators and rear red/clear lenses will fit on a 996 911 Carrera? Or are they completely different? Thanks for any help. Dan
  17. Thanks loren, according to the diagram it looks like its the water collection tray or sealing channel on rear side collection thats blocked or causing the leak! Loren, can u advise on how to access the water collection tray? The drains were working properly when I flushed them out. Thanks in advance. Dan
  18. Am pretty sure this leak is coming from the airconditioning, its been not been raining and have had the aircon on and can still feel carpet is wet. Can anyone advise where the aircon system runs, is there a filter tray or something underneath the seat or is it blocked somewhere? Any advice appreciated?
  19. Dear All, I wonder if anyone would be able to help. When I was cleaning the boxster I found that the carpet sponge behind the driver side in my RHD car was soaked. It appears that the carpet had soaked from underneath and the sponge was wet and the carpet on minimally. I searched this forum and eventually found a small blockage in the roof drains which now flows perfectly. However I am still finding the carpet is still slightly wet, if this because of the buildup or is there soemthing else. I read it could be something related to aircon but is this on LHD vehicles in the US? Here is a picture, does the black tubing which runs under the carpet have anything to do with it? Any help appreciated. Cheers. Dan Boxster 2.5 RHD
  20. I asked this same question and believe the answer was that the boxster chassis is stiff enough without the aids of any more braces. I bought one but sold it subsequently without fixing it because it meant leaving the front battery covers off.
  21. Thanks Toolpants, could you advise on how to remove the black plastic rear casing? I've removed 4 screws from the green board but i cant seem to remove it from the black rear casing. Is there a latch or something I'm missing? Thanks for any help.
  22. Does anyone know where the eeprom is located on the instrument cluster and how accesible it is. I've read the write ups on cluster removal but no pics of what inside of the cluster looks like. Thanks.
  23. Thanks GreigM thats great. Cheers.
