  1. Hello,

     

    I have read that you guys have concluded to be engine mounts issue. My MY04 Cayenne-S case is different since the vehicle engine after warm up the RPM it drops very low and die eventually, then would have very hard restarting; something like fuel choked of being too rich. However, when the engine is cold then no problem to start right away and no shaking!

     

    I have changed everything can think about like fuel pumps, fuel regulator, fuel filter, mass flow meters, ignition coils, spark plugs, breather hoses, throttle body..still no solution : (

     

    Any other idea?

  3. Hello everyone,

     

    Getting hopeless for this flying pig again.

     

    I have the same issue when the MY04 Cayenne-S after warm up and got RPM very low and then stall. The pig is currently 145K miles.
    I have only 2 CELs currently P0016 and P0344 but being long time already for past 5-6 years (believe bank 1 camshaft chain starched and too big job to fix), until recently warm up stall issue and the car can't be derivable anymore when being in closed loop after warming up; keep stalling and then could not start anymore. need to wait until cool down.

     

    Cold start no problem at all. So far replaced: ignition coils, spark plugs, O2 sensors, fuel pumps, fuel regulator, fuel filter, Mass flow meters, throttle body etc.., all kind of related parts already being replaced but still cannot resolve the issue. By the way, breather hoses also replaced and no vacuum leaking.

     

    Any help and info will be great appreciated!

    Inspected diaphragm in AOS and there are no cracks ,splits or holes...Cleaned it all up.

     

    Checked for vacuum leaks...None noticed , Even sprayed with CRC

     

    What can cause this oil in breather hose.. I noticed it's dirty around AOS and also where hoses go into to valve covers on each side .

     

    Engine is running rich and some smoke for few minutes after start up. Smoke is white and not coolant smell.. smells of fuel and just a strong stinks exhaust. 

     

    Plugs were pretty black and seem to be carbon as they were dry but had an oil smell... 

     

    I am so darn confused her now...

     

    What is the air flow direction between the AOS and and throttle body ( this is where the crankcase breather hose with the oil in it is..)

     

    Any help would be appreciated.

     

     

    Have you fixed the issue at the end? I have exactly the same symptom as you had, going crazy and find no cure!

    I have MY2004 Cayenne-S and getting hopeless. The car can start no problem each time when is cold and very strong cranking, but when the engine gets hot it can't be cranked...seems like seized engine. Changed 3 new batteries, 3 different good brand names batteries but no help, so believe it is not battery issue. When I forced to crank when engine hot couple times I can smell electric short...guess is too heavy to crank and killing the starter.   Also the engine is running poorly when engine hot and forced the RPM to be very low and then stall.  Used Mobil1  0W-40 engine oil and changed no long ago. Basically it is not derivable when engine reaching hot temperature and would stall, then cannot start.

    What could be the real issue?  I always and only have the CEL P0016 and P0341 for past 5 years and knowing from stretch chain so did not bother to fix it until now. No other CELs and no vacuum leaking.

    Can anybody help for this weird issue?  All the symptoms bringing me to think about bad lubricant and seizing engine, but how? When engine hot aater temp gauge pointing to above middle and stays at 3/5. Any input will be great appreciated!

    Not sure if this thread is dead or not but just wanted to add that I too have been dealing with a P0016 on my MY09 GTS. 100k miles exactly on the clock.  After doing a lot of research and consulting with techs and specialists, this weekend I’m going to reset the timing for both banks and change all the timing and valve lift actuator solenoids. I’ve already changed both cam and crank sensors. I had even bridged the cam position sensors together to only read from Bank 2 and instead of P0016, I got P0172 for valve lift control, as well as Misfire Cyl 3. I think those codes were hiding as a P0016 code as the ECU just generically “diagnosed” the engine’s roughness. After everything is completed, I will report back with my results. 

    Please keep us posted!  MY04 Cayenne-S now 150K miles and only P0016 left. It idles rough and losing power. Good luck!

    I have done my MY04 Cayenne-S replaced both sides with the aftermarket flex pipes ordered on Ebay. It is kind of impossible to DIY unless replacing with complete OEM part, since it requires professional welding that need twisting angle welding to flex pipes. I sent to a bodyshop friend in Montreal and charged me 7 hours labor.

     

    Very poor design in exhaust system including to change O2 sensors. If you got chance to do the flex pipes job remember to change O2 sensors at the same time. Hope it helps; good luck!

    Meaning your computer will always show your timing as perfect. Unless someone has messed up the timing it should be considered ok. It is the variable system that plays up. 

     

    If the timing chain was to stretch enough to cause a CEL it would be noticed at startup or efficient cruise speeds when the variation is at its limit. 

     

    It’s more likely to be an actuator or solenoid. Simply checking the camshaft timing to within the factory specs will not diagnose this fault. You would need to check the operation and travel of the variable timing actuator. 

     

    Thanks for the sharing and info. I really went into this P0016 for a while and tried alot to fix it. I believe I am in the worse scenario is with the bank1 timing chain stretched. 

     

    I have actually changed the bank1 actuator solenoid and camshaft sensor but no help. 

     

    Any info to adjust the timing or change the chain without pulling engine? Thanks!

    Yes after delete the P0016 usually it returns in about 20km.  

     

    I read the service bulleting about retiming timing without pulling engine but the info is vague. 

     

    Guess even timing expert is needing to pull engine so It should. 

     

    The pig is running soft and with much consumption. Any info will be appreciated!

    I recently got my Cayenne back from the shop & I want to report that my issues have been solved. The tech confirmed that problem was with the cam timing (both banks off) & proceeded to re-time the engine by locking the cams using a special fixture& re-adjusting the cam sprockets back to factory spec. While the intake manifold was off he carbon blasted the intake & replaced the plugs. The result.....no more engine light, smooth start up, quick snappy response & smoother transmission shift. Happy customer!

  11. Hello Guys,

     

    Needing your help for the flying pig; problem one coming another, never finished!

     

    2004 Cayenne-S 210K kms. Today suddenly the PSM failures Workshop yellow warning light on while on the road. It were on and off during past years guess mostly because of low voltage.

     

    This time with a new and strong battery just changed 2 month ago; alternator with 14V charing; the PSM failures Workshop light stays steady unlike before would got disappeared after off and restart. After some google there is one mentioning about the steering angle sensor; needing you guys opinions.   

     

    After hooked up the diagnostic tool I could not disable the PSM light and got new errors:

     

    Under DME: P0102 mass air flow circuit.

    Under transmission: 1314 DME control module

     

    Getting more challenges; my pig is the lucky one that wining all the rewards!

    Please post some pictures to see your harness; they are not close to firewall but around under the passenger side below the carpet.

  13.  It is a joy in finding the problem and fixing it! 

     

    The corroded wires are at front passenger side (Right hand side) under the carpet. Basically you will need to remove the front passenger seat completely and foot well then can flip over the carpet. You will see a bunch of wires passing through it to the front. Easy to find the corroded wires ( 2 spots) that only hand taped the terminals..the corrosion are there. Hope it helps!
