  1. There are only Bose update CDs for PCM2.0 and PCM2.1. The CD/DVD updates for your PCM3.0 update the whole system, and will definitely cause your current maps to be incompatible. To update the system you would need the update disks, the latest map DVDs, and an activation code which you enter with Piwis. I sent you a PM.
  2. I don't recall hearing about station presets not saving, and if the previous owner has altered the wiring and not returned it to standard, then we are shooting in the dark. The 'maps unavailable' and 'cd changer unavailable' are likely due to a fault in the fibre optic circuit, but it is difficult to put a finger on it. I think you need to get a Porsche specialist to check it out, but in my opinion you are likely to spend a lot of money trying to resurrect a 20 year old navigation system that was out of date before it was introduced. Just my $0.02s worth.
  3. It sounds like you have PCM3.0 with Software/Hardware Version 1.x. This was the introduction version of PCM3.0 for MY2009 Sports cars and Cayenne. HW/SW V2.x was introduced during MY2011. To update 2.x there are at least 2 disks required, and I assume the same disks are used for 1.x (there are 1.x software files on the 2.x update DVD.) The first update is a CD, so if the update you have is a DVD, then maybe you are starting out with the wrong disk.
  4. I have only used PST2 or PIWIS1 for coding cruise control on a 986. I recall that early software versions of PIWIS2 caused problems coding cruise, so perhaps the feature was removed. The option doesn't appear in simulation mode either, so I suspect that might be the case. Do you know anyone with a PST2, PIWIS1, or Durametric Pro who could try?
  5. The door lock microswitches ground (earth) the inputs to the alarm control unit. On the diagram you can see the brown ground wire which connects to all the switches, so if the ground is bad, none of the switches will signal the alarm control unit. The brown wire goes through the door plug, to a chassis ground point. The diagram also shows the same ground goes to the power windows and heating, so if they are working you can probably rule out a bad ground.
  6. I think that it is still pointing towards a bad door lock motor, or a bad earth. Maybe see if you can find someone local with a PST2 or PIWIS tester who can give it a more in depth diagnosis.
  7. If the passenger door will not lock at all, then I suspect the lock motor has failed. The other possibility is that there is a bad earth on the lock assembly. Does the Durametric show Input Signals on the alarm module? If you can read if the switches are open or closed then this would indicate the earth is OK. If you can't read the state of any of the switches, the earth is probably the problem.
  8. I think you'll find that the cruise indicator is in the rev counter. It is backlit, and isn't visible until it is lit.
  9. There isn't a routine to create a backup file of the control module data with Piwis. When you fit a new control module you can read out the data from the old module, change the module, and write it back to the new one. I don't know where this file is stored, but you may (possibly) be able to use it as a backup if you can find it.
  10. From the Overview screen, press F7 for Additional Menu. At that point you will be asked if you want to create a VAL. Choose 'No at this point. On the Additional Menu screen, choose Vehicle Analysis Log (VAL. There you can select OBD VAL or Service VAL. Choose one, press F8, and follow the on-screen prompts. At the end (after confirming the VIN), you get the choice to select a log type - Choose Miscellaneous. Then press F12 to go to Report Management. Select the log, and press F10 for Print. Print it out to PDF or a connected printer.
  11. Piwis 1? If so, go to DME>Vehicle Data. Press F4 to Save. Then press PrtScn to get to the Logs Page. Open Working Log and you will see the vehicle data printout, which you can print by pressing F5. If it is Piwis 2 or 3, just run a VAL. An OBD VAL will give you coding of DME and Tiptronic. A Service VAL will give coding of all control modules.

  13. You can buy the belt tensioner plug with a length of cable attached from Porsche. Part # 996.612.991.10 or .00 depending on side. About 21.00 GBP, so probably around $25.00.
  14. The relay is on the panel in the driver side footwell (RHD). It has abgasklappen written on the top of it. Check this out.
  15. PET shows that up to 06-11-2016 the LEDs weren't handed, as PET shows one part number for both sides (7PP 919 238) which is now superceded to 7PP 919 238B. £6.06 GBP incl. VAT. I suspect the Touran part I listed is the same, as it just has a different number prefix.

  17. They are all communication errors, as you have removed an element from the CAN bus. Ideally, you should code the PCM MMI out of the system on all the modules affected. Or live with the fault codes.
  18. L84A is Guards Red, and S1 is Savannah Beige. (But it looks like it needs a good clean!)
  19. The speedometer signal is taken from the ABS sensors.
  20. On 3.4 Tiptronics the reversing lights are controlled by the multifunction switch on the side of the ZF gearbox. Facelift 3.6s use a Mercedes box, and the reversing light switch is on the bottom of the selector lever.
  21. Most Porsche Centres will post out parts. I would try your local centre first. Failing that, try Type911.co.uk or Design911.co.uk.
  22. I have some info on the Motec dash somewhere for the 996 GT3 Cup, which I think might have been used in the early 997 Cup cars. Drop me a PM with your email address and I'll dig it out and pass it on.
