  1. There is a GT2 for sale with the following vin.. wp0zzz99z2s695578 I have put this into scousers decoder but it comes up as a GTx 381 BHP model car. The turbos come up as a 420 bhp twin turbo coupe. Is this normal or does this car smell funny? Thanks
  2. Hankook TD (but only up to 295s (dubious wet performance though I would say) 888's are very popular here around Adelaide, but again the reports arent favourable on wet roads. I understand that Bridgestone is releasing an R spec tyre soon that meets CAMS but also gives up to 8000km of road use (without punishing it). Its supposed to have considerably more "temp cycles" in it than the 888's. This was from a Bridgestone rep of course. Personally I would still go for 888's myself and just not drive bravely in the wet. A friend just put a set on his RUF 930. 315's on 18 inch rims but his car wears them well due to adustable suspension all round (toe and camber etc)
  3. Nah its the clock knob stalk in the cluster itself, not a turn signal type on the steering wheel assembly.
  4. I was hoping it would be something simple, but given that Porsche dotn sell the stalks, got me thinking there may have been something hidden there that required a million dollar tool or something. Thanks
  5. Hi all... I have recently gotten a set of replacement stalks for my 02 996 from Brian P of this forum, as one of the knobs broke off flush with the instrument binnacle. I grabbed a set of new knobs from local Porsche Centre, so now armed with both the required items I want to install the new stalk. I have searched and read up the various "how to remove the instrument clusters that are here and on Pelican's site, but cant see anything on how to actually replace the stalk in the cluster itself. The removal of the cluster seems simple enough. Some screws, a few disconnects, a tab here and there and its out, but what then? Anyone done this who can enlighten me before I pull my dash apart? Tony

  9. Hi there Was wondering what options there are available to identify if my car is a genuine RUF? Can this be determined from the VIN? Any info greatly appreciated (alternatives to RUF if any) TIA Tony

  12. Hi all... I have a 2002 C2 996 Trip car, that I am looking to revitalise in the power department. I would really like a turbo car (996 manual) but given the cost difference here in Australia between my cars value and what I can have to pay for a suitable turbo car, its making financial sense to retro fit a turbo engine to my car. I understand that the MY02 trip transmission is the same unit as fitted to the 996 turbo models, so I figure that the gearbox and balance of driveline should be retained. Essentially giving me a 2WD Turbo Auto which could be fun :-) Apart from the addition of the complete turbocharged engine assembly and the third radiator I cant see much in it. The advantage I think is that I would have a rebuilt engine installed versus the 57,000 km orginal engine. What do you guys think of the idea? Do you think this is a logical choice? Am I going to bastardise the car and have resale value issues? (I would retain the original engine assembly ideally) I dont really want to turbocharge the existing engine as the rebuild and the kit pretty much just equates to a factory spec turbo motor I think. Thanks in advance for any pearls of wisdom or flames thrown at the idea.

  14. Hi there... I have a 2002 996 Carrera Tip Coupe, which while it doesnt see much road time (generally under wraps till the weathers right or the local Porsche Club is having a run) when it does get out there it spends a remarkable amount of time travelling about the countryside at some "interesting" speeds for some reason ;) . I have a great deal of confidence in the car as a whole, but would really like to know what would be a good value dollar spend (bang for buck) in improving the downforce on the car. Things like front bumpers, rear wings, lowering etc. Its a ROW car (Australian mate) if that means anything from a basic equipment point of view. I really want it to feel "stuck" at this speed obviously. Thanks

My 2002 996 C2 (56000 km) uses no oil (measureable anyway) with normal driving but will consume a little (nowhere near the Porsche acceptable numbers) when I have the opportunity to spend some time at 250km/h. They do puff a bit at startup if they are not parked level, especially after getting a good workout.
  16. This is the bottom line isnt it really... I have the same discussions with people around here. They tell me how the new Nissan GTR will beat the my C2, not to mention most other cars. Over here in Oz they are around 160,000 AUD for a GTR and about the same for a low mile 996TT. My response is always the same. When the day is done THEY'LL be driving a Nissan... I wont.
  17. Hi there.... Can anyone tell me the steering rack and gear ratio (ie 13:1 15:1 etc) and if there is a replacement set to speed up the steering. I live in an area where the roads are fast but have quite tight turns and I would like the car to turn in rapidly with a LITTLE less movement of the wheel. I dont want to over load the power steering of course as the car is still required to be parked etc in the usual places requiring quite a bit of load on the system. Thanks

  19. Another quickie... I have a strange looking sensor on the front bar. Its not like the reversing sensor. More like a "kangaroo scarer" that we have on vehicles here. (you hit one of those in a 911 and it will be in the car with you pretty quickly :o ) The difference is that this one is not a passive sonic device as it has a couple of wires attached to it. I have attached a photo in case anyone knows what this might be.... Tony
  20. thanks for that clarification... I have also just noticed that the previous owner (?) has written in biro on the label (label is quite faded) #016. Dunno if thats some extra thing thats been added but another code I cant find so far anywhere.... Tony
  21. Firstly hello to you all. I am a first time Porsche buyer and must say I'm as impressed with these cars as I thought I would be. I have had some interesting vehicles in the past but none quite get out of corners the same way as this one does, even though I have some trouble (well fun :rolleyes: ) keeping the power slides under control. I shudder to think what my life expectancy would be if I had sourced a turbo first up. I'm secretly glad I didnt. This one will be great to learn how to drive properly in. I have a 2002 996 vehicle. C2. Trip. Black metallic exterior and black leather interior. Its an Australian car (C23) I too have the code 226 which I cant find any info on. Doesnt feature too many other codes but seems to match as the vehicle is pretty vanilla. My codes are C23 - Australia X70 - Alu door guards X71 - Alu style instruments 226 - the mystery code 249 - trip auto 411 - 18" wheels 432 - not sure if it relates to the paint or the wheel as both are correct 680 - Bose sound system Must say this site is a marvel of information.
