  1. Well you'll need the wiring. BUt no matter how far you get, you'll be stuck w/ a system that is no longer supported w/ updates. All in all, you're better off buying aan avn 5435, or some other 2 din unit. Gotcha. Thanks a lot for the input!
  2. eBay auction says it came from an '01. I have a 2000. What else would I need in order to get it to work? Thanks in advance! http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Porsche-PCM...bayphotohosting
  3. I had it done when I first bought my 2000 996 C4 cabriolet. Over the next couple of years, the convertible top creaks and groans have come back in a big way. Well, when I had my car in the shop to replace a rear window regulator and add hydraulic fluid for my convertible top motor, I had them lube the seals in the top again. Man oh man, what a HUGE difference this makes. My car is virtually noise free (other than the sweet engine note). Because my car makes no other rattles or noises otherwises, getting the top to be noise free is great. It just feels so solid. I would recommend this to anybody with a cabrio. I think I saw a DIY on here about it. Trust me, it's worth it. :D
  4. So I just dropped the car off at the dealership. Apparently (according to the dealership), the small rear window regulator is MUCH more expensive than the front window regulators. They are going to do it for $1,100. :cursing: The top (fluid fill) is going to be another $300. I know I could've probably handled the fluid fill on my own thanks to Izzy's great DIY, but I just want to get my car back running like a top tomorrow. Thanks for the opportunity to vent again, $1,400 later.
  5. Hiya guys, I haven't been around much, but when it rains it pours with my car (2000 996 C4 cabriolet). I had been conversing via PM's with Izzy about fixing my convertible top (John Deere fluid fix) :) and now my rear window won't work. It is EXACTLY the crunching sound as listed above, so I fear a regulator issue :( Sounds like an $800 visit in total to the dealership, but I am now of the mindset, "let 'em fix it all and give it back to me perfect again". And pretty. :D Sorry for the venting; I should come around more often and not only to vent.
  6. Now this is weird guys........ I ordered and received the part, and was planning an attempt on a DIY for the following weekend. In the meantime, I took my car to the dealer for it's 45K service. I get the car back last Friday, and when I pulled up the handrake, the parking sensor illuminates on the dash. I made no mention of this during my service trip. The next day, it doesn't work. Somebody told me to pull up and down on it a few times to see if that helps. Well, it did. Now, it works perfectly, WITHOUT replacing the switch. I have tried it 20+ times over the last few days LOL.
  7. Work has been overwhelming as of late, so I am finally focusing on obtaining the correct switch and getting my cab top "fixed". I have searched Pelican Parts, but coming up short with respect to a Part # for the handbrake micro switch. Does anybody have this information? I have a 2000 996 C4 cab. Thanks! -George
  8. Loren or anybody else, any information on this handbrake sensor or the situation as described above? Thank you all!
  9. Hi all, first of all I love this site! What a great resource! Second of all, Dell, I am in Las Vegas too, and I am suffering from your exact cab top problem. I had a big relief when I was able to open the top by using my key. However, when I pull the handbrake all the way up, the handbrake light does NOT come on the dash. I did a search, so is this what is known as the handbrake swith fix? What exactly is that? Is it a fuse or something more involved? Dell, what did Gaudin Porsche charge you to do this? Is this something I could do myself if I had the part?? I must warn you all I am VERY technically uninclined. :( Thanks all and a belated Happy New Year to all.
