  3. i could have sworn i've seen it before many times but i just can't find it, does anyone have a diy on how to remove the whole center console? 996 c2. thanks! jon
  4. Really depends on the head unit you want. You could spend $50, could spend $3000. Up to you. I did the Kenwood DNX-7140 install myself, finished it up this past weekend. I just wish it wouldn't lock up when I plug my phone into the USB... details... i guess i wouldn't mind a cheap one, i'm notl real big on audio stuff, mainly getting it for the navi, but how about my installation questions? do the units all fit or do i have to look for specifications? and hows installing the gps stuff? ez or hard? thanks!
  5. hi everyone, i just finished this it turns out the hex socket is supposed to be 5mm not 6mm which is why it wasn't working for me haha, thanks for the diy op! and hope my information is helpful to any future diyers!
  6. woops sorry, my car's an mk1 1999. thanks for the information! i'm mainly concerned with just the price for the head unit, since i love diy-ing things. so if i read your post correctly i should be prepared to spent a bit over a grand?
  7. hey guys I'm looking into getting a new headunit for my 996, I want to get a flip out screen one, but I'm a total audio noob, so I have a bunch of questions I was hoping you guys could help me out with. TIA i'm looking for one that has gps at least, most of the ones i've seen that have gps come with a dvd player too i guess -around how much should i be planning to spend for this? -does it matter which one i get in terms of fitment? will any of them fit? -how easy is the install? should i take it to a audio shop or is diy possible? -any recommended models or brands? -anything to watch out for? thanks everyone jon
  8. on my car when i play cds from my cd changer they would be random static on some songs.. usually in the later songs .. ie: tracks 6-12.. the static is not always in the same time/area of the song sort of just random. i have tried swapping different cds and it's the same story. i've cleaned the magazine and the cd changer as best as i could and it's the same still. checked the wires, all secure. (at least from the end of the cd changer) i couldn't trace the wires all the way. anyone know what could be wrong? thanks jon
  9. thanks for the reply :) i used the hex and it just keeps turning and turning, i turned it for a good 5 minutes and nothing was even loose or popped out :( anyone know what i'm doing wrong? I had the same problem with mine. I had to pull and jiggle the headlight as I turned the socket. Also, your bolt may be rounded off, so you may need to try a smaller socket. When you put it back in, make sure the light is seated correctly on the bar that pops it out, so you won't have the same problem. just tired it :( no luck :( tired the 5 and 7mm both don't work only the 6, i can feel it turning and the rachet clicks but the headlight just stays still
  10. thanks for the reply :) i used the hex and it just keeps turning and turning, i turned it for a good 5 minutes and nothing was even loose or popped out :( anyone know what i'm doing wrong?
  11. i was thinking about this too when i saw the pic of the ballast int he headlight with everything but op has anything gone wrong since the install? if anything i would have thought the ballast would cause the other stuff to malfunction since the ballast itself gets so hot
  12. my porsche tool kit doesn't include that headlight removal tool, i guess the previous owner lost it :( i did some research and it seems like it's a 6mm female hex socket, is that correct? i tired using it but it just keeps turning and turning, the headlight doesn't even get loose. anyone know what the problem could be? thanks!
