  1. Front grill mesh is now available for 987.1 Boxster / Boxster S as well as all Cayman and Boxster Sypder models as well. More information can be found here: http://porschemesh.com/ John is a Cayman owner and devoloped this product for his own vehicle. I worked with him to develope a version for Gen1 987 Boxsters. It is a great product and is made of very durable aluminum, not plastics. Pricing is extremely reasonable and can be had in several finishes or bare aluminum to be painted to match your body color. Attached is a picture installed on my Boxster S.
  2. I have a similar thunk noise in my 2007 and I just assumed it is the parts of the convertable top structure. Happens both top up or top down while driving over rough terrain. Let me know if you get it resolved.
  3. did you push the learn button on your garage unit? you need to actually put the garage door unit into learn mode so it can learn your car as a new remote. Ususally there is a small button to press on the garage door opener near the light bulbs.
  4. I know there have been numerous posts about using a DA orbital machine with a medium to fine polish to remove light surface scratches. How do you safely remove a deeper scratch or stone chip? Is it as simple as cleaning the area / clay bar, filling the chip or scratch (sparingly) with touch up paint, and then using the buffer with a medium cut polish to even the touch up paint with the surrounding areas, then using the fine polish to remove the swirl left by the medium polish? I am a relative novice to this, but the above process "sounds" like it should work. Can someone let me know if this will work or if I am way off base with my thinking on this. Of course, I will be trying this first on one of my other cars :) thanks in advance for any advice on this!
  5. The entire light assemby comes out and is replaced for either the amber or clear... the bulbs do not get replaced. If you just grab firmly at the wheel well and pull the light towards you it will "pop" out and then you simply unclip with wire harness and then reconnect the new one and snap it into place. Hard to mess it up. See link for diagrams http://www.renntech....__1#entry172750
  6. I think the gong sound that you ask about earlier is to alert you if in home mode that you left the door open, as the lights would then stay on... and drain the battery. If you close the door, the lights go off after 30 seconds. Hope you figure out your problem :)
  7. Jumped the car with a jump pack this morning and took it into the dealer. The dealer said the batter is fine. When I got home and pulled the car into the garage I noticed that my lights were on in the "Home" position. Since I didn't turn them on today I must have left them on the last time I drove the car (which was over the weekend)!! DOH!! Thanks for the replies, Jason I believe that "home" mode only means that the lights will stay on for 30 seconds after closing the door and then turn off... I doubt that was the cause of your problem.
  8. the RS60 tip has a Pi like shape to it, and I believe that you simply remove the T section of your current tip and swap it into place. It will replace the tip and the "T"
  9. As others have said, if you like the car, that is one thing, but it does not seem like a "deal"... high miles / not CPO. If it were me, I would either find one that I liked that was CPO, then at least you have 2 years for something to go wrong as a result of prior owner abuse. Just a quick search turned up a red 2005 S, a little higher optioned than the one you described, with 40,000 miles CPO listed at $33,500 in Austin TX. If you are willing to stick with a higher mile car, there is a 2006 with 63,000 Silver / Black leather with Tip / Bose / Xenon listed for $28,500 as well. For me, I would rather have the peice of mind with CPO.
  10. Glad to hear you did not screw things up too bad... I was thinking about doing my own oil change before storing the car last winter, but it is things like this that will keep me going back to my dealer for such work... Found a local dealer around me that will do the change for $150, which I think is worth it considering it would cost close to $100 just for the parts and fluids.
  11. If anyone is looking to upgrade from thier 17" wheels, or wants a softer ride than their 19" with lighter weight, I have a set of 18" boxster S wheels with PS2 Tires and 2005-07 generation TPMS for sale on the classifieds section here. Even includes matching black crest center caps. TPMS sensors may also work with 2008 models. See below link for more details and pictures! http://www.renntech....ap-black-crest/ Make me an offer, these need a good home Thanks for looking Dan
  12. Thanks for your help guys... I got home from work today and put the new wheels on all corners, drove 5 miles and the TPMS sensors from the 2008 wheels worked fine with my 2007 boxster. Saved a trip to the tire shop, and now I can unload my old wheels as a wheel / tire / TMPS sensor package... a real win win!
  13. According to the TSB available on this site (for contributing members), the first generation TPMS was for vehicles with MY05-08, the second generation is for MY09. They did change the part number for the MY08 but it works with the MY05-07 cars. BTW, when I changed my tires to a 255 in the rear, and reset the TPMS accordingly, it went into learning mode for a few miles and then worked normally. Regards, paul... Thanks for the quick response... So when I get home tonight, if I put on one of the 19" wheels and just go for a quick drive to see if it works what is the worst that can happen? The rolling diameter should be the same, and I will not go on the highway or anything so I am not concerned about the miss matched wheels / tires, but could this do anything to the TPMS system?
  14. I have a 2007 boxster S with TPMS. I purchased 19" sport design wheels + tires off of a 2008 RS60. I was under the impression that the 2008 sensors are not compatable with my 2007 boxster so I have an appointment at the tire shop tomorrow to have them switched. The 19" wheels were delivered and I had them in my garage last night next to my boxster. This morning when I started my car, the TPMS system went into learning mode for the first few miles of my trip to work. Is this normal? are the sensors from the 2008 wheels somehow compatable with my car? I do not want to keep my appointment with the tire shop and incur the expense of doing the swap, and the possible damage to the wheels, if this is not necessary. Any help would be greatly appreciated Thanks! Dan
  15. They will be for sale soon if you like them so much Do you like used 18" tires as well?
  16. Steve, There is a set of these on ebay if you are interested... the front offsets seem like they would be fine, but the rear might need a spacer to make it work but seems doable... http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/18-Porsche-BBS-wheels-rims-factory-OEM-996-993-911-C2-_W0QQcmdZViewItemQQhashZitem1e5b875740QQitemZ130384615232QQptZMotorsQ5fCarQ5fTruckQ5fPartsQ5fAccessories
  17. where did you end up ordering from?
  18. Oops, they are actually from 2008, the RS60 was a 2008 model :) anyway, anyone need 2008 TMPS sensors?
  19. Thanks for your input guys... I just ran into some Sport Designs w/PS2 tires (80% tread) and TMPS sensors that were take offs from someones 2009 987 RS60 on e-bay and pulled the trigger. I will post pictures once installed and after adding 7mm/14mm spacers front and rear. Could not pass up the deal. I do not think the 2009 sensors are compatable with my 2007 so I will have to swap those out. Anyone need and extra set of 2009 TMPS sensors?
  20. I will conceed that it is all about looks... I am sure my 18" are lighter than any of the choices above, but still like the look of the 19". Tire cost is not a huge issue for me as my car only gets 3-4000 miles a year as my garage queen who gets stored winters and only drive it on my daily commute if it is not going to rain... or on weekends for that matter. Plus I do not plan on tracking the car so tires should last a good 4-5 years on average given that amount of driving.
  21. just found a member on another forum that may have what you are looking for.... http://www.planet-9....html#post451176
  22. Suncoast Porsche has those wheels with tires and TMPS from the factory for $5295... I can't imagine that shipping would be anywhere close to $800 and how hard is it to put on some wheels yourself. Also, I believe that once available the spyder wheels will not be much more than the $6000 you are already willing to spend, so if that is what you really want you may want to wait a few months. All the factory 19" wheel / tire packages seem to be within a few hundered dollars one way or the other, I do not see why they would charge significantly more for the spyder wheels.
  23. I have read that as well, however I am not too concerned about ride comfort as I am on stock suspension (non-pasm) so it is not too stiff to begin with. I would lean towards the Sport Designs if I stick with OEM, but for some reason I really like the gunmetal look against the silver car. I think it will match almost perfect to the titanium color of the side intake vent...
  24. could try to combine a BMW 7-series emblem (i.e. 740iL) with a 986 emblem to make a 987 yourself... if you get them both from the same aftermarket e-bay place they should have a similar size / finish...
