onicaloc, sounds like you have the low fluid problem. The switch being bad will not move any part of the componetry at all.

Seriously, try this, I was able to fill up this weekend with very little wait, no more than 5-8 minutes (yes, I did use my stopwatch as I am a certified nerd)

This is a new one, the AC works great in the car, nice cold air. But no matter what temp setting I set the system at, it is always cold, no hot air. Any suggestions? I did check the fuse, it is good. Next thing I was going to check is the temp sensors, if I can find them. Suggestions appreciated

John, those side flaps do operate on a linear (ball) screw and have to be regreased to work properly. I had the same problem, and if you remove the rear carpet cover from behind the back seats (2 phillip screws), use a flashlight and you will see the rotating parts screw like lifter. What I had to do is use a small foam brush and high temp grease applied to the screw, and situation fixed.

Chuck, what year 951? The O2 sensor could be upstream from the cat and is not a problem

C2 or C4? Year and Miles? Maybe front bearings need help. Also see if your rotors have developed a "lip" on the outer diameter.

And the siimplest, but happens, check the lug nuts. It may sound silly, but I have seen it happen in a friend of mine's 986, loose wheel bolts.

James, it should apply to your car as well, I have had both 1999 and 2003 996's, same treatment for both. And I had codes without CEL as well, so just a precaution.

A couple of things you can do.

1. disconnect the battery for about 10 mins. Make sure you have the radio code to re-enter it. The computer should re-set after 10 mins and reconnect the battery.

2. Go to your nearest Autozone type store and ask to borrow a code reader. The codes stored on the DME should come up as to what is wrong.

I would do it in that order, as resetting the car costs nothing and you can do it at home. If you do get the codes, there is a code "decoder" on this site that can tell you what the issue is.

james, the MAF is on the airbox itself. When you replaced the airbox, did you remember to connect the cable back into it? it is the connector right above the K&N sticker in this picture

James, did you do the clockwise rotation and pulled out slowly? There should be a connection in the back you got to disconnect

Thanks Robert. Being a dedicated track car for me, the 944 Cup guys recommended 15W50 mobil. Going to Red Line 75w90 for the tranny. It has 210K miles, second motor. The high banks on the NASCAR tracks gets the oil away from the pickup, so the experienced guys use the heavier oil. And still, I had to replace number 2 bearing already...

If any of you guys are in Charlotte for the 2008 PCNA Porsche parade let me know. Also, if you are going to Lowes Motor Speedway for the DE, let me know, I will be there Saturday in garage 43 (Petty's?), red 944.

Steve, I am surprised no codes are showing. I would go to Autozone and borrow their reader and verify that.

The other thing that may be acting up is the speed sensing unit on the transmission. Specially if the fluid is old. You said it does shift on manual mode, so that is what got me thinking fluid or pressure regulator or transmission speed sensor in the hydraulic control unit.

I only use them for track days, found them to be too loud for everyday driving. But I do need to be on phone for business on the road, and you really can't make a phone call driving with the bypass pipes on.

Does the car have short shift kit? I recall when I put mine in 2nd gear was "bumpy", so I ended up removing the kit

A Porsche dealer has the computer that can connect the to the car and fully flush all the ATF, including the fluid in the transmission cooler. The drain will only drain the fluid in the pan, or roughly 2/3's of all the fluid.

If the independent can do a full flush, you probably want to observe how they do it. If all they do is raise the car, open the drain and flush, then you will still have old fluid in there that will mix with the new.

Nope, he may be trying to set up his next meal ticket. The full oil change is just over 9 liters, a drain and fill is about 6 (from memory). Ask him how much he used without telling him, and you will know if it was a full flush or not. If not, you may have to drain and fill aobut 3 times to get all the old stuff out. Again, that was my experience doing it myself. I drove about 100 miles between flush/refills. A dealer with PIWIS can do a full flush.
