  1. Ok so I drove the car today around 93 degrees today ran the a/c, and drove fast pushed hard couple times and all the while had the breather valve open. The temp never did get above 210 degrees and did not see any coolant come out of overflow hose on ground or on car. When I went to close the breather valve it did not want to close (guessing because it was still warm?) after it cooled off the valve closed just fine and easy. Anymore suggestions on things to try or was this just a unusual thing that might never occur again?
  2. How do you test the cap? And nobody thinks this could be the shock, or is it too much fluid for a shock?
  3. Just checked my coolant cap and 5 years ago I replaced an 00 cap with an 01 cap, now I hear there is an even newer one? Should I try it or am I wasting my time with it? It doesn't appear to be leaking from near the cap but didn't know if that would cause overflow from the hose too.
  4. Thank You ericinboca, I saw the wire on the that cap today and was wondering about it but never did see that overflow hose with all the looking around I did underneath the car. Will top off and try this!
  5. When I took the coolant cap off today it had a good seal on it but I can't find where the overflow hose is. and this may seem stupid but what do you mean by breather valve?- hose to AOS?
  6. Can't remember right now but I did replace it with the newer one it's not the original. I can't find any sign of coolant from around the tank top, bottom, or cap. I pulled the carpet back and felt all around underneath the tank and it is very clean on bottom and top.
  7. Drove my 2000 2.7 boxster 2 weeks ago (very hot outside that day 109 degrees) parked it untill the other day and saw a 4 inch puddle of fluid on the garage floor leaking down inside of right back wheel, could not tell the color because it was mixed with dirt from under car. Looked under the car and the inside of the back right wheel has covered with this fluid, but only could see the fluid was kinda clear looking. Pulled tire off and noticed the entire control arm and part of the brake lines and brake pad indicator lines where moist and the bottom part of the shock and wheel bearing assembly was coated with moist dirt. I checked that rear brake line and master cylinder everything looked good. It didn't look like any place oil could be coming from, so I thought it might be from the shock, but it was alot of fluid and the suspension and shock seems to still work like it should. So I talked to a local Porsche mechanic he told me he saw something like that before on another boxster and was coolant. I checked my coolant and was a little low about 1/2 inch below min in reservoir tank, but I can't find where it could be coming from unless it is spraying from somewhere. I ran the car today with a/c on for awhile could not find any coolant leak under car or under reserve tank, could all this fluid be coming from the shock up at the top and spraying/leaking down when I drive and still have enough in it right now to still have a decent ride? Could not get any decent pics of this.
  8. so this is what seems to be the problem, the cable came off the wheel behind the regulator and I can't stretch it back. Has anyone done this before? Or is it just shot and I need a new regulator?
  9. Right now mine is very hard to push down and will not go back up on its own. Another strange thing I noticed half the time when the door is open and I push the switch to make the window go up if it goes up all the way and I am still pushing the switch the window will start to go back down automatically . Thought some micro switch might be going out but there sure is a lot of clunking and grinding going on when the window goes up and down. I do have a Bentley manual, doesn't look as complicated as I thought but any thoughts or suggestions I will take. I will try to look for that harbor freight tool.
  10. I 've got a 2000 boxster 2.7 went to get in it the other day and driver window did not drop when opening the door. Started it up and the window went up and down using the controller switch but the more I used it the scary sounds started like a grinding and stretching sound in the door. I tried to see if the window was going up and down at an angle but did not look like it to me ( some say this is a obvious sign of failed regulator). The window does sometimes drops really fast about four inches mid-way when operating with the window switch down and moves erratically sometimes when going up or down. I have done many searches on this forum to find info and would like to know anything I can about this before opening the door panel up or ordering a new regulator.
  11. Just to let everyone know if you have an O'Reilly Auto Parts near you Mobil 1 0w-40 is on sale for $4.99 quart. Everywhere else it's $7.49 a quart where I live and can't even find it at wally world anymore. Hope it is OK to post that here.
  12. Who's Pedro? Where's his site? Never mind just found it thanks for the help!
  13. My radio control knobs are sticky from the outer coating wearing off and was wondering if you could just replace the knobs or if anyone has tried to put a new coating on them with success? I have tried to contact a becker distributor but cannot get a response hoping for suggestions, Thanx
  14. Had to come to a fast hard stop because a little ricer in front of me showing out and heard a loud noise thought is was my brakes so I stopped suddenly again when no one else was near me and realized my horn started fluttering sounding (going off and on fast). Has anybody had a problem like this? Don't know if I should start looking for problems by the horn itself and its wires or on the steering wheel. 2000 Boxster 2.7L
  15. No check engine light on yet. I have 45,000 miles at the most on the spark plugs I bought it when it had 39,000 miles on it. I ordered new plugs with AOS to be installed, but the idle just drops on 1st start of the day. Even if the car has sat 8 hours after first start it only does on completely cold engine. It drops to about 300 rpms after about 5 seconds after starting sounds like its going to die then usually jumps back up by itself, sometimes I give it a little gas and it will then idle smoothly.
  16. I never thought about using some motor oil on it sounds like a good idea. Do you think replacing the AOS might help eliminate the strong emmision smell after startup? It doesn't smoke very much unless it has not been started for a while.
  17. I plan on ordering a new AOS and replacing it and would like to know if I just need AOS and vent line hose or anything else like new O-rings? I asked sunset if they had the recommended lubrication "klube" but they said the techs just recommend spraying the o-rings with silicone lubricant. The reason I am doing this replacement before anyone asks, I have had some cold idling problems after start up I replaced the MAF and cleaned the throttle body. I read the forums and it sounds like the AOS needs replaced whenever you remove the oil cap and suction comes from oil filler tube, mine did bad and car almost died like a gasping for air sound. I have also been having really bad emission smell after startup that stinks up the garage for hours like carbon dioxide/gas smell, hope this hasn't effected the O2 sensors yet. Any recommedations? My Boxster is a 2000 2.7.
  18. I got a new battery. I can't seem to trust a recharged battery in a car after it has been dead plus it was about 6 years old, and yes the car starts now and everything works.
  19. I found out what the problem was if it helps anybody else in the future. When I unlocked my door with the key the battery was dead and when the car had power I forgot to go and unlock the door with the key again so when I tried to start it the alarm was still armed. Well you live and learn and maybe somebody else won't have to worry like me after a dead battery.
  20. so even jump starting would not be able to start it? I was wondering if the flashing lights and windows moving had any thing to do with the alarm being activated before the battery died even though I could use all the power accesories when trying to jump it, and to answer one of your first questions I live in Arkansas and is cold and did get below freezing a week or so last month. thanks for your advice.
  21. battery is about 5-6years old it had been sitting almost all winter long only started once and it was a weak start at the time. car is garaged so should not be wet I will by a new battery this weekend but was wondering why all the lights interior and exterior like the hazard lights door lights and windows go up and down in sync with the starter trying to turn the engine. the noise of the starter is hard to describe not a clicking but a little deeper sounding like I think it probably should sound
  22. 2000 boxster has a dead battery, this is the order of what I did and happened. I opend door but window did not go down like normal, got in car would not start, I pulled the outside emergency hood release opened hood hooked up external jump battery to start car, alarm went off I turned off with key fob, I tried to start the car all the lights in the car started flashing windows starting going up and down like when you open the door, heard a clunk clunk clunk from the starter. I thought the jump battery was not strong enough. I then tried to jump off my truck but lights, windows, and clunking noise again still won't start. I then disconected battery to reset computer for 3-4 min. tried to jump off truck again but still all lights inside flashing and windows moving and still will not start. please help me if you can!
  23. I never did figure out where it was coming from, I put a clean sheet of cardboard down underneath the car and park on top of it after each drive and I noticed it had stopped leaking about a week after my posting.
  24. I have a 2000 2.7 with about 43,000 miles I posted about a year ago with this problem still no fix. On the first start up of the day (only with cold engine) after about 5 sec. the engine acts like it is about to die. Sometimes car shakes sometimes it just drops to about 700rpms and idles a little rough for about 4 secs. I tried first cleaning throttle body, but did not fix it. Just tried cleaning the MAF even though it did not appear dirty, but did still not fix it. I don't know if this is related but on the first start up the car smells as if it is running rich like a strong fuel burning smell in garage and outside. I'm sure this isn't a major problem but is very annoying, so any more suggestions might help me thanx. :)
  25. Could it be leaking oil from timing chain tensioner or is it probably coming from some place higher dripping down to it, last time I looked there I could not tell. I will try to clean it up better to get a closer look, but any info from you guys now could help me.
