  1. My '99 Box has a new "chirping" sound... only at idle or low RPM and seems to be heard with engine under load (excelerating from low speed). Anyone got any ideas where this is coming from? I orginially thought it might be a pulley/bearing on the front of the engine - but then I got to thinking about all this chatter about intermediate shaft bearing failurs. My car has 118K on it, tracked about 5-10 times and I've had it for two years. Runs fine (so far!) Much appreciate the advice. Joel
  2. Jack/Jack stand support for DIY'r -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Hey guys! I'm proud to say I'm a new owner of a '99 986! I'm loving it. I got the car knowing and hoping to do a little work on it here and there. My question for you is... I've been reading and researching about how to jack it up and support the car. It looks like the jack stands should be put where the jack goes. I see where guys put the jack just ahead (towards the front of the car) and have made special mods - like cut a groove in a hockey puck - to not ruin the metal seam under the car. Is there anyone, or parts store (on-line or not) who sells a device for is purpose? I'm afraid I'm not that good at making something from scratch - especially when it comes to something that could be potentially dangerous like this! Basically two things would be handy here - the top of the jack stand to fit the shape of the car and, a device to put atop the jack. Any helpful hints, links or pics would be much appreciated! Joel
  3. What do make of a Boxster that smokes on startup. This only happens when I move the car a short distance (from garage to street) then when I start it up again it has a puff of blue smoke. If I drive the car a long distance (>10 miles) I have never noticed this smoke. BTW... at has 111K on it and it's a '99 (2.5L). Joel
