  1. If you car does not look like my 2003 996 SUV, then you have a lowered car. Maybe aftermarket springs...
  2. Ok, so I am mixing and matching like crazy to get a look I like that fits in my budget. I am starting with a base 2003 C2. So far I have the wheels I like, and the Mk1 Taco Wing I prefer to the MkII. I have Mk1 side skirts on the way. And it looks like I'm going the GHL route. And, I am trying to do all this on the cheap, and make it easy to restore to stock for resale... So I don't want to do the $2500 front bumper replacement and paint, but I want to try and get some more look at the front to balance the skirts and wing. When I was at the dealer yesterday, I saw a 2004 GT3 that had a thick (2-3") rubber lip bolted to the bottom of the front bumper. Has anyone tried to attach this lip to the stock C2 bumper? It looks like you could easily drill the holes and position the lip very close to the front to give a more agressive look to the car, cheaply. I think it's like $250 for this lip? Any thoughts? Thanks, PRH
  3. They are not the latest version by at least a couple of generations. Looks like the .04 is the latest, but I can't list the improvements from the .01. The .00 are for the 3.4L only, but the rest can be used on either 3.4 or 3.6L engines.
  4. those work for either version. it looks like there are up to .04 version now. .00 was the earlier 996 PSE.
  5. I saw an older 996 going down the freeway the other day, and compared to my car, it looked like it could really use spacers. The wheels were so tucked into the wheel well it looked unsporty. I have 10x18 on the rear with an effective offset of about 54mm, and I think it looks pretty good. I could probably use a 5mm spacer in the front to be perfectly balanced. My wheel placement looks about the same as a GT3's. Here's a pic...
  6. I am ready to pull the trigger on GHL's, and I'm trying to figure out how to order them. From their web site, there's no phone number that I could find. I found a post with e-mail addresses from someone on here: -------------- No problem - the price (for standard version) was $679 without tips and $799 with tips - both plus shipping etc. Talk to Brian or Cindy they were real helpful in getting the boxes over to me here in Spain - the email is Ghlexhaust@cs.com or Cindy@ghlmotorsports.com. Good luck !!! -------------- I sent e-mails to both addresses with no responses... The online ordering price is way over this, so I want to speak/email with a human that can get me the good price, but I'm running out of ideas... If you have this exhaust, how did you do it? I've read nothing but great posts about their customer service, so I'm trying not to hold this against them... PRH
  7. Oh, yea, in addition to what I first said you will hear from "others," and you did (I think they touch on all my original points), you will also hear that silicon is compressible unlike standard brake fluid so you will always have a more spongy pedal no matter how good of a job you do bleeding the brakes with silicon.... Bottom line: Just change your fluid regularly with Dot 4 and give Porsche a break (pun!) on this one since there are plenty of other things to hit them about.
  8. Thanks guys. These mufflers are supposedly included in the standard 000.044.200.21 part kit that they sell. So I think it's safe to assume these will be ok for my 03 C2?
  9. This is probably an easy one for Loren...I had a vendor tell me they have PSE's with part numbers on the mufflers ending in .04. I have heard of .00, .01, and .03, but I've never seen .04 mentioned on any forums. Is this a correct part number, and if so, any ideas on the differences of the .04 with say the .01's? Thanks!
  10. You will find loads of people that will tell you that Dot 4 and Dot 5 systems are not compatible. So according to them, whatever you start with, you have to continue with. They will tell you that the seals will be ruined with the switching, and that unless you drain and flush every little bit of the other fluid you will have problems. In the end, it's not worth messing with because it's not the end of the world to do a quick brake bleed every couple of years. Fluid changes are the nicest thing you can do for your car. And if you race your car, there are plenty of hi-perf Dot 4 fluids that have very high boiling points.
  11. I think I read in another forum that you can get it to fit with some serious modifications... Someone like robyn or porschebabe did it on 6speedonline...
  12. It definitely helps to spray Lysol into the A/C system.... Turn on the A/C full blast, put it on outside air, and spray into the area at the base of the windshield where it sucks in the outside air (at least there is where it is on 99% of cars, but I'm new to Porsche).... It's bad enough on some cars that this procedure is part of their TSBs for stinky A/C's...
  13. I bought the car used, so I don't know what was ordered. My code definitely has an "L" infront of it. Is it possible that it is a custom color? It sure doesn't look like it. It looks like any old regular red color that you would see on anything from a Ferrari to a Nissan... Do you know what code India Red is? Thanks!!!!
  14. I'm having a wing painted and there's confusion with the paint code. On my sticker, it's listed as L84A. The paint shop says all Porsche paint codes are 3 characters, not 4. And he says the 84A is showing up as India Red, not Guards Red. The paint code section here lists 84A as the water based Guards Red. Can anybody offer clarification? p.s. I just sent my Paypal for a contributing member!
  15. Loren, do you have one of these TSB's for an 03 C2? I have a Taco wing in the paint shop and I should have it tomorrow for the install. I don't mind doing some wiring instead of having to buy something from the dealer (usually means a week wait anyway).
  16. Thanks, Loren! That's incredibly helpful! We'll, I hope to make someone with a 3.4L happy with this 3 day auction: http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAP...item=7966617306
  17. An easy test you can do to find completely gone shocks is to have someone drive the car on the freeway for you while you watch each wheel from another car. An older, bumpier, section of freeway is best. If you see any of the wheels bouncing up and down rapidly over the bumps, then the shock is completely gone for that wheel. Doesn't really help for partially gone shocks... Just about any other test requires removing the shock, which is a pain.
  18. I spoke to a service writer at Champion Porsche in Florida when shopping around for my car and I asked him this very question. He replied "life of the car, they don't seem to wear out." That's what he said. He wasn't trying to sell me a car or service (I live in Texas), I was just talking to him about the cars in general.
  19. Gee, someone needs to let dealers like Brandywine know about this. I just noticed that they were selling 10 of the smaller bypass exhausts on eBay and advertizing them for "all 996 from 1999 to current." http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAP...ssPageName=WDVW
  20. Loren, you are amazing! So, I might still buy these and resell them since they are brand new and the guy doesn't want to bother selling them himself. Can you confirm if this PSE with the "996.111.984/5.00" part number is for all 3.4 996s, or just certain years so I advertize them correctly? Thanks, PRH
  21. Thanks Loren. Any ideas why not? In other words, is that a technical or sales and marketing recommendation from Porsche?
  22. I have a shot at buying an older style PSE for cheap for my 2003 C2... Can anyone say how much different the old versus new versions of the PSE sounds? It looks like the new one has a bigger bypass pipe, but that bigger one goes through the muffler whereas the old style's smaller pipe completely bypasses the mufflers... So I am thinking the net effect may sound about the same in terms of volume and sound. Thanks, PRH
  23. You could also remove the idiot light bulb from the instrument cluster. It's one of those not too important idiot lights because you can just check your brake pads visually like all the other cars that don't come with an idiot light for brake pads... I'm an electical engineer, so I like to have everything working the way it should, but I'm also a good-enough-is-best engineer...
