  1. I have an '06 S and has 143k miles. I have had very little trouble with it and I love it. However, at 139k I replaced the coolant pipes (I know it was just a matter of time) $3800 (thank you Porsche stealer!!). At 142k I replaced brakes and rotors after only about 25k on the last set of brakes and rotors. Now I am told I have a rear main seal starting to leak. I only got a couple of spots on my driveway (about the size of a quarter), but I had it confirmed on 2 occasions that it was the RMS and although I could let it go, it was just a matter of time. My indy says it is about $1300 to do the work (he did admit it was less than $5 for the part), but a full day worth of labor. My question is: Given the miles what other big issue am I going to have and is it worth dumping the cash to keep it going? The body is in great shape and I do need to invest in tires and the 160k service will come up. I know that is all wear and tear, but I am concerned about big ticket items I may have in my future. Dump it or keep it? What say you???
  2. What are those things and where are these located in the vehicle?
  3. I have 2 problems with my drivers side view mirror. The easy one is that the mirror is coming off the backing. What kind of glue should I use to replace it that will stand up to weather extremes and still stay stuck. My other issue is that the piece which holds the mirror (and alo is the mirror heater) is barely fixed to its post. It wobbles ridiculously and the clips that hold it to the unit do not seem to hold firmly. Does anyone have an easy fix for this? Thanks.
  4. I just replaced both of mine. Although the light is on, it still gives me the warning and I have yet to see it go on when I turn the corner now. Is there a module or relay that I need to replace?
  5. Update number 2 - I wrote to Porsche and advised them of the problem noting that the vehicle was only 5 years old and that something like the multi-purpose display was something I am certain Porsche designed for the life of the vehicle and I am also sure they did not think that life to be just 5 years. I appealed to thier judgement and thier willingness to prove Porsches ability to display good will under the circumstances. They immediately wrote back requesting my VIN, dealer service associate, etc. and they would certainly open a case file and review. Well, the eternal optimist that I am had a vision of someone calling me in a couple of weeks with a fabulous good will jesture due to the unfortunate failure of a component that never should have failed. Much to my surpirse, they cllled me back the very next day and after an exhaustive investigation of the matter that I am certain was investigated at the highest levels of Porsche, they informed me that my vehicle was out of warrenty and there was nothing they could do. They also told me there was no one nor anything I could do in terms of an appeal to a higher authority. Boy, I am impressed by thier quick service and attention to the matter!!!!:censored:
  6. Thanks Loren. As per usual, spot on advice. As a long overdue follow up. I took the CS to the dealer and he ran it though the diagnostic and there were no fault codes that showed up (not bad for 109,000 miles!), but he said the only way to fix the fading multi purose display is to replace the entire instrument cluster at a cost of ~$2K. He said the display pixes are worn out. As I stated earlier, this is strictly heat related and the colder it is tthe longer thedisplay stays full bright. On a hot summer day (above 85 or 90), the display is virtually invisible at the start. Has nyone had issues like that before with this and is there a possibility I can get Porsche to step up and accept some of the blame for a component that should last the life of the vehicle? Thanks.
  7. Could not find the coupon you refer to on the Porsche NA site. COuld you please send the link?
  8. FYI - Went to the local Porsche dealership yesterday for their "annual" (oil changes, filter, diagnostic, etc). I thought I would take advantage of this by going through my list of "nagging" issues along with them telling me if there was anything else wrong. Also it allowed me to dream by sitting in the new CS and CS Hybrid (God, they are gorgeous!!). My multi purppose display has a habit of fading away to the point where I cannot read it at all. They told me the only fix was to replace the instrument cluster (~$2k). I also asked them about the "dead spot" in my acceleration coming out of a slow roll. They could not find anything and surmised that it is due to the fact that my '06S did not have direct injection (surprise to me as I thought they all had it!!) and that it was a normal delay in getting fuel into the system. They did tell me that my brakes and rotors were shot (they were also surprised that I never got the warning from the sensors) and quoted me $1750. When I told them my indy quoted me $1500, they cme down to 1590 so I am taking it to them, just to be safe, I am waiting on the instrument cluster until it makes me totally nuts and I shell out the $2k.
  9. I got an estimate from my local indy on the cost to replace brake pads, rotors and sensors. He estimates $1500. Sounds about right?? He is a reprutable service center, but I am not certain about his level of Porsche expertise. Although I have read that brakes are pretty simple job for the Cayenne, so I am certain he can do a good job. Just wondering if the price is right and what would be recommended for the type of components for him to replace (as far as type, brand, etc). Thanks.
  10. My 2006 CS has developed a rattle. It appears to be in the dash on the passenger side near the wiindshield. It happens especially when it is cold. It seems as if there is either some screw or fastener loose or perhaps a loose screw (or something) rolling around. Is there an easy way to remove the glove box so I can get a look behind it? I think that is where it may be (I hope!!). Any suggestions would be great!!
  11. Quote from the General TIre Site: "General Tire's newest premium all-season tire for today's light trucks, crossovers and SUVs. " I have also attached a picture of the tire, it got good reviews on tirerack.com and discounttire.com. It also looks pretty innocuous as far as tread detail goes so I did not think it had a rolling resistance any worse than the Bridgestones.
  12. I have a 2006 S with standards 18" wheels (no TPMS). I changed out from Bridgestones to General Grabbers HTS (255-55-18) and now my mileage has dropped off more than a mile per gallon. I was getting a little over 16.5 MPG with the Bridgestones (Potenzas) and the new Generals seem to be getting me about 14.7MPG. Any ideas why? Thanks.
  13. Just so I am clear, this ground is located where? Also was the ground permanently detached or was it detached and then reattached? I have the same issue with the pixelation on my multifunction display, but would like to be certain of the procedure to follow.
  14. There is no rotary switch on the top of the stalk, just the switch on the face of the stalk that determines the timing of the intermittent swwep of the wiper. I assume we are talking about the same thing here, but even at the lowest setting the wiper speed varies a great deal and is sometimes too fast or the time between swipes is too short even when there is very little rain.
  15. The rain sensor on my front wipers for my 06CS seem to operate rather erratically. The wipers tend to run constantly with very little rain on the windshield. The stalk adjustment does not seem to make a difference in the timing of the wpers so I was hoping anyone here can provide some insight. Thanks
  16. C'mon!!! Nobodyhas any ideas? No one has had this problem?
  17. I recently picked up an '06 S and it is a great vehicle!! I have noticed when the I start the multi function display is bright and all is well, except after 10 minutes or so of driving the display washes out a little and I can hardly see the the little display in the lower left hand corner that tells me what gear I am in. Is it something I can adjust or a fault in the display?? Thanks.
