  1. It was putting up 300; 301,302 and 303 codes.
  2. Is it OK to drive my 1999 Boxster with MAF cable disconnected. It ws misfiring a lot. Stopped completely when I disconnected.
  3. Problem solved. Replaced Instrument cluster. Cost $200 on EBay.
  4. I replaced the instrument cluster and solved the problem. Got a used one on e-Bay for $200.
  5. I,ve been noticing a slight rumble in front wheels on hard left or right turns. Worse on drivers side than passenger.
  6. I own a 1999 Boxster which has a new roof installed with glass window. Anyone know how to install wiring for defogger. There is a switch on the dash to turn it on but no wiring harness. Perhaps someone has MCIvered theirs to get it to work.
  7. Where in the enginine comnpartment is this located?
  8. Can anyone direct me to a DIY to replace the Fuel Pressure Regulator in a 1999 Boxster .
  9. I also just noticed that while the clock is flashing I do not get the oil level indicator as I should when the vehicle is started.
  10. I'm thinking so as well. Any idea where I can get one for a Tip?
  11. Tried the headlight switch as well several times. I had the cluster out a few times while trying to solve this problem. Cleaning plugs contacts etc. No change. The only thing that seems to work is to pull Fuse B10 and leave it out for a couple of days. When replaced the cluster behaves itself for a few days then the problem comes back. Driving me nuts.
  12. Wiggling the key does not make any difference. Beleive me I have tried. The ignition switch (electrical part) has been replaced twice with OEM.
  13. I have posted this before but will try once more with a detailed description of the problem. Perhaps someone may have seen this before. I have a lingering problem with the instrument cluster on my Boxster. It started last year and has been intermittant ever since however now it appears to be a permanent issue. I will describe as follows. When I turn off the vehicle and remove the key from the ignition the odometer, digital speedometer and clock remain lit and the hour number on the clock begins to flash as if it needs to be reset. These lights will remain on until the battery dies if the battery maintainer is not connected or I remove the fuse for the cluster from the fuse box. When the car is restarted the clock continues to flash for approximately 1 minuite and then it goes normal. It will stay that way until the vehicle is stopped again and the key removed. ONLY WHEN THE KEY IS REMOVED DOES THE CLOCK START TO FLASH. I have removed the cluster and cleaned plugs and contacts, installed new ignition switch (twice), disconnected battery for hours at a time but it always returns. No codes either. Hopefully someone can put me out of my misery. There is no Porsche dealer here in Newfoundland or I would have been there.
  14. Did remiving the fuses as decribed solve the problem permanently?
  15. Thanks . My car is in storage now for the winter but Ill definitely try this thanks a lot.
  16. Loren, When I shut off the ignition and leave the key in everything is normal. When I pull the key slightly out the clock starts flashing and will stay that way with ODO and spedometer lights on when I remove the key . When I put the key back in and start the engine it continues to flash for 30 seconds and then goes normal. Whall, I have measured 350ma with dash lights on , when I pull the instrument cluster fuse it drops back to 25Ma. Which I beleive is normal. I have put in a new ignition switch (electrical part) and have removed instrument cluster and inspected for broken wires and used contact cleaner whever possible. I sure could use some help with this as I have to plug the car in every overnight or I get a dead battery in a couple of days.
  17. More information as I still have this problem... I have removed instrument cluster and cleaned up connectors , knobs etc. Put back together but no change. Simplified the problem is as follows.. When I turn ignition off with key still in it the instrument cluster is on. When I pull the key half way out the cluster stay on and the clock starts to flash like it wants to be set. If I restart the car the clock will continue to flash for about 30 seconds then stop flashing. I have replaced the electrical portion of the ignition assembly. Has anyone see this before.
  18. The key makes a normal clank sound and the hour light in the clock starts flashing as if needing to be set. If I restart the car it continues flashing for about 30 seconds and then changes to normal. I checked the time and odometer knobs and they do not appear to be stuck in. I also sprayed them with some contact cleaner. No change. I also took battery readings of 13.2 volts on the fully charged battery with vehicle shut off and 14.44V with the engine running, so it appears the alternator is OK. I have not taken current readings to determine the shut down amount current draw, but I suspect it is more than 21MA as the battery will not last longer than 24 hours if not recharged. Any other suggestions?
  19. The battery is about 6 months old. It is a sealed unit so I can't check acid levels. I can however do the measurements. Have you seen this cause this type of problem before?
  20. Hi Loren I have been here before with this. I have replaced the ignition switch. No change.
  21. I've posted this before but have been unable to resolve the problem. I have a 1999 Boxster 2.5L Tip. A couple of months ago I noticed when I turn off the ignition the dash lights stay lit and the clock flashes as if it wants to be set. It will stay this way until it drains the battery. Usually in a couple of days. I have replaced the ignition switch at someones recommendation but no change. Further if the car is re-started the clock continues to flash for about 30 seconds then stops flashing as if normal. When stopped and ignition turned off it starts all over again. Dash lights on and clock flashing. Can anyone tell me if they have seen this before and what can be done? There is no Porsche dealer where I live so I'm on my own here.
  22. How did this work out for you. I still have the same problem and have tried all recommendations except removing the cluster.
  23. Reading KFH2818's other topic, I find it interesting that the instrument lights and clock went back to normal when he removed and replaced his faulty ignition switch back in. I already tried 2 different switches without success. Looking closely at how my instrument cluster and ignition acts, I notice that when I turn off the ignition the engine shuts off and the dash is in normal operation, nothing funny with the clock. And I remove the key from the ignition lock cylinder very slowly. Still no problems till the key is completely out of the cylinder, and when I finally take it out, I hear a "clunk" sound from inside the ignition lock and the clock goes into set mode instantly after this sound. This "clunk" sound is not subtle. I believe it's some kind of an actuating rod, probably the mechanism that connects the ignition to the tiptronic shifter so that you can't put the shifter out of park without inserting the key. I don't remember how the movement of the ignition felt before this problem occured but this sound is very obvious and harsh. I believe instead of a "clunk" it should feel like a small "click" when I remove the key. It feels as if a metal rod is pushed up by a spring and bottoms out on a metal surface. Since the clock goes into set mode right at this instant and causes my dash lights to stay on, I still want to believe my problem is related to the ignition, maybe the mechanical lock cylinder portion. I don't know if it's servicable but I'll remove it this week and see how it looks like. Maybe try with another cylinder if it's not too hard to get it coded with my key. I will also try to get a video of the situation. If everything else fails to cure the problem, can any of you guys recommend me a shop which can repair my cluster? I'd rather ship it across the planet and back than get a new one and mess with the dealer for the programming.
