  1. Check your spark plugs first. They often will work they way out. I had same noise you are talking about -exactly. I had one plug that I removed with my fingers, it was already coming out. 2 others were barely finger tight. Replaced them all and now no noise.
  2. I had a similar problem on my car. Really irritated me. I recently pulled my engine/trans to replace te IMS, AOS, plugs, VarioCam pads/chains, and a bunch of seals and stuff. One last thing as I was reinstalling the muffler, I found a bracket was broken. I moved the clamp to solve the problem. After I completed everything, I started the car and was happy to see the 'vibration' was gone. Not sure what exactly fixed the problem since I did so many things, but I suspect either the very very loose plug or the muffler bracket.
  3. Another cheap option is to take your rear seat cushions in to Home Depot paint department (or like) and have them scan your cushion. Then they can make you "sample paint" based on the cushion. The small sample containers come in flat or satin. $5? Also get the small ultra fine foam rollers to apply. If the finish is too flat, a clear coat can add luster and/or add durability.
  4. When it started, I was sure it was the belt. But upon further searching, it definitely isn't. I talked to a friend that is a Porsche tech, and said AOS or loose spark plug. I went all over this engine while it was running, with my electronic listening device, and it was not the plugs or belts or AC, but was loudest under the intake manifold, in the oil cooler area. I had to be under the engine, near the transmission, to locate this. Loren, wouldn't removing the oil cap reduce the air pressure in the crankcase and possible stop the noise, if it is the AOS seal or valve?
  5. It is mostly at lower rpms - as I remember it gone by 2k.
  6. Does it sound exactly like a loose fan belt? And it is more on the passenger side and towards the top of the engine? Mine started this about a week ago. I was told is is probably the AOS going out. The AOS seal is making the noise. I put my car on the lift and used a listening device to find noise. It seemed to be coming from an area near the oil cooler, but very difficult to locate. ( I have wondered if you were to remove the oil filler cap, would the noise would stop? - I haven't tried it or driven the car since AOS diagnosis) I had already planned on dropping my engine and replacing many engine parts, as preventative maintenance, so the timing was perfect. (replace WP, AOS, coolant tank, plugs, plug seals, IMS bearing, VarioCam pads and chains, oil cooler seals) I'm at 101k and all these parts are still original. I figure it is best to replace the parts on my schedule, and it is much easier to replace many of them with the engine out (all at once). I'm having a "engine pull party" on May 8th.
