  1. I worked for SKF over 30 yrs. From my experience, 6204 bearings were made in many different countries. But to the same set of standards within a company. SKF - France, Argentina, India INA/F.A.G. - Germany, Canada, S Korea NSK - Japan, Poland, UK, USA NTN - Japan, Canada Hope this is helpful. Marc S - Suwanee, GA
  2. Thanks everyone, I think I'll stick with the Porsche recommendations. You all really helped me out since I had the wrong information to begin with. Thanks, Marc
  3. I think it's time to change the Transaxle Fluid in my 5-speed my98 Boxster. I have found this site that explains the procedure but I am a bit puzzled on the choice of replacement oil. They suggest using a Synthetic like Swepco 201 or Redline 75W90. Does the 2.5L Boxster have a Limited Slip Differential or a Non-LSD? Has anyone any experience with the with these fluid choices? I would think that the GL-5 rating is best. http://www.tech-session.com/kb/index.php?p...ex_v2&id=54&c=4
  4. Thanks Tool Pants! Never thought to look under Boxter.
  5. Hi Rich, This is what I needed to know. Did you get the bracket from a dealer? Thanks, Marc
  6. I have a rattling noise coming from the exhaust. Had the heatshields checked and was told that a baffle inside the muffler was the problem. I would like to replace the muffler and thought that replacing the hardware woud be a good idea as well. Would like to know what options I may have for a replacement muffler. Any other suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks
  7. I'm looking to replace the muffler, clamps and connecter pipes. I would like to find a used OE item in good shape. I'm hoping to find someone who went to an aftermarket solution and is selling the original. But I want to be sure that newer models will work. Thanks
  8. Can an "S" or "non S" exhaust system from a 2000 - 2003 Boxster be fitted to a non S 1998 2.5L ? Thanks,
  9. Loren, I took the car to a non dealer specialist here in Atlanta. Performance Imports. They are installing a new clutch and flywheel. They have diagnosed my CEL problem and will replace the solenoid tensioner assembly. This is working intermittently and could fail completely. Cost is about $900 to fix. They say this will solve my problem. Thanks for all your help.
  10. Loren, Thanks, this explains why the CEL went out on it's own lasr Friday and came on again yesterday. Car still runs well. I will take it back to the dealer this week. Will let you know how this plays out.
  11. Loren, Thanks for the reply. They found both fault codes P1524 and P1539. Yet they told me the faults are not present. I don't really understand. However, your explanation seems better. Any ideas on cost to replace an actuator? Thanks, Marc
  12. I have a similar problem with my 98. After the CEL came on last Friday I took the car to the dealer. They found 1 fault ... "178 Bank II camshaft adjuster". Then they told me the fault is not present. (?) They said the car would be running poorly if the problem was real. They reset the light which came back on the next day. Now they want the car for a day to "dig deeper".
  13. The dealer told me I need to replace my clutch in a 1998 986 with 43K miles. Does anyone have a clutch replacement procedure? I need to see all that is involved. Thanks
