  1. Ok.. so here's what happened...

Thought I would save myself some money and do my own oil change this time. Anyway went through the process and all was well, then we f'd up. My friend that was helping " thought" he was having trouble removing the crush washer but guess what? the washer had already come off. Anyway they continued to pry the problem washer only to realize that they were actually messing up the flat facing that would normally be flush with the crush washer..... I know i know. Anyway after the panic had subsided we decided to see if the damage was enough to keep the plug from sealing. Luckily the threads were ok and we seated the plug and filled the CS with oil. at first it looked like all was ok but after a couple of minutes of sitting (not running ) it started to drip... slowly but still a drip.

so... now I have to figure out a way to seal this drain plug. I thought perhaps I could:

1 use a dremel or something like that with a flat disk and "reface" the flat part that the crush washer would normally press against.

2 use some kind of O-ring or flat rubber washer that would seal off the plug and keep it from leaking

3 use some kind of sealant ( if you guys know of anything ) that I could use to put around the plug as it seats, or on the threads, that would would keep it from leaking but also not set hard enough to cause problems with future oil changes.

I'm just sick about it but it is what it is..... Any ideas or suggestions are very much appreciated. BTW and strangely enough, it only leaks when the car is NOT running. Dry as a bone when the engine is cranked.

I'll probably be up all night trying to come up with something.... man this really sucks. I'm going to post this at a couple of other sites so you may see it in other places... thanks!

  2. Hey folks... I don't know if someone decided they needed this trim piece more than I did or if it came off in the wind. Anyone have a line on a salvage or used parts place for these type of things? I guess I could find a new one but used would be better..I can probably have it painted to match if I can find one (used and cheap would be best :D)

thanks for any help or direction

BTW I'm about an hour from DFW

  3. Hey folks, I have some weird stuff going on with my keys.... brief summary

My 1 1/2r. old son decided to play hide and seek with my keys that contain the key FOB I usually use so I had to use the beat up key that I've had in a jar "just in case" It hasn't worked to remotely open the doors in forever but would start the car no problem. After about a week or two of using the "old" key I found my keys in my daughter's play kitchen microwave... go figure. banghead.gif

BTW around the time I "lost" my keys, the battery under my seat started giving me trouble and has since been replaced. Every time I started the car the clock reset, ac/heater wouldn't work for several minutes, along with other general weirdness

FOB #2, which has been the one that I use (since it will remotely open the doors with no problem) has stopped working in the ignition. When I insert the key nothing happens. NO dings, NO light, big NADA. and after a few seconds I get "immobilizer active" on the screen.

If I remove that key and use the other one, upon insertion I get all kinds of normal fun stuff. Dash comes alive and after a foot on the brake cranks right up. what gives?

  4. So the last couple of days my 04 CS has started doing some strange things.

    1. When I insert the key, sometimes I have to pull it out and re insert it to get a response.

    2. When I start the vehicle, I briefly see a Battery on the display and the words "Engine Start" . (never noticed this in the past year)

    3. My AC seems to be tied to it somehow. Sometimes it'll be 5 minutes before the Blower/Condenser kick in. None of the controls seem to be working even though the display on the AC appears normal. Once it turns on it operates properly

    4. My sunroof would not "close". it would open all the way or the closed but lifted mode but wouldn't close normally. HOWEVER, when I activated the sunroof the AC turned on LOL

I have a feeling that one of both of the battery's are OEM so replacement may be in order. Any ideas on what to try to diagnose the problem? The car doesn't seem to have any trouble starting, just some general weirdness with the operation of a few things.

any good aftermarket battery options? Brand or model info would be much appreciated. Are the OEM batteries maintenance free? BTW my CS is an 04 with about 70k miles

thanks for any help or ideas! user_online.gifreport.gif progress.gifedit.gif

  5. K&N is what I meant to write... Yes, I'm an idiot. No I can't figure out how to change the title :D

I was able to find some older(er) threads on this subject, but not much.

So..... are they all they're cracked up to be? In their continued quest for increased air flow, do they really allow too much gunk through? Is there really any performance gain to be had on a normally aspirated Cayenne V8?

thanks, inquiring minds want to know!

  6. so even though I installed brand new coils last night, I need to check again for cracks? is it even possible to happen that fast? Not sure what to do about the plugs. They were specified for an 04CS by the parts folks, were boshe "super", and looked exactly like the one that I removed (and had been running great up until last Friday) Is there any kind of reset I can do since it's running EXACTLY the way it did prior to replacement. Could the DME or whatever still think I have bad coils and have shut off the bad cylinders? thanks for your help man.. I really appreciate it

  7. Hey Loren thanks for the reply,

The ignition coils were part # 948.602.104.07 (BERU) and the plugs were Bosch Super 7413. Both were ordered as OEM parts. They looked exactly like what I removed, minus the cracks and gunk. It just runs like it's still not firing all cylinders. That's why I was hoping someone knew of a way to reset it's brain, and that maybe it was still in some kind of "limp" mode because of the horribly melted coil and the other 7 that were cracked.

  8. To briefly summarize... last week my 04 CS started running rough on the highway, limped home, CEL came on the last mile or so and there is sat until tonight...The folks on rennlist helped me diagnose this as the very common bad coil issue. I bought new plugs and the -07 OEM ignition coils.

So me and my mechanic friend dove into the deep end tonight. It only took a couple of hours and one trip to AutoZone to get the Coils and plugs replaced. All 8 coils were cracked and one of them had basically MELTED!!!! After everything was replaced and put back together we fired her up and were, needless to say, disappointed. The P!g is still running and idling rough, sounds like it's misfiring and barely had enough power to move up the driveway. The CEL is still on but I'm guessing that it will stay that way till it's reset or clears up per ODBII. As far as the current trouble (post replacement) I'm hoping that the electronics told the motor to shut down the cylinder(s) with the melted and badly cracked coils to keep from causing further damage, and doesn't "know" that it's ok to fire them up again but I have no idea what to do next. Is there a way to "reset" the computer without hauling it down to a dealership? Any tricks to get my baby running again. BTW my mechanic buddy said in all his years he's NEVER seen a coil melt like this one. Could it have done some kind of damage I'm not aware of? I sure hope not.

here are a few pics for your viewing pleasure. Any help, ideas, or suggestions would be greatly appreciated

    thanks

    John

  9. what a piece of crap! People never cease to amaze me. For some reason Porsche owners seemed above this sort of thing(at least in my own mind) But obviously that's not the case. How "certain" are you that you know who he is? If you think you can take him, I'd be inclined to approach him and find a way to bring it up and watch his response. then I'd punch him square in the nose :D

no... I was filming the recording (what the cameras cought), not the actual theft of course :)
  10. OK, so I checked the fuses listed below and they look fine. Anything else I can check before a trip to the dealer?

BTW there was a fuse in that same panel that was BARELY in... I'm talking hanging by the "proverbial thread" but alas no change.

Just to clarify technically the Cayenne has 4 horns.

There is the alarm (signal) horn.

There is a backup horn (if activated).

There are two vehicle warning horns - high and low pitch. Operated from the steering wheel.

The vehicle horns are cheap horns and are know to be a failure item.

Check the left fuse panel F53 and F33.
