    My 1999 Boxster (automatic) stopped on me yesterday and would not restart. It would crank and crank, but not catch. After letting it sit for about 30 minutes, it started and ran just fine. I had it towed home anyway. This morning it started on the first try and ran well. Less than half a mile from my office parking lot the engine suddenly stopped and would not start again. I've parked it and will take it to a local Porsche mechanic later today. The nearest Porsche dealer is in Austin. There are no warning signs (sputtering, etc.) or check engine lights. Any idea of what is getting so hot that it causes the engine to cut off? MNC-I

    Can a CDR 23 radio fit in my 1999 Boxster that originally came with a CDR 220 radio? The CD player in my CDR 220 will no longer play CDs. Will a later model radio such as the CDR 23 fit in my Boxster (plug and play)? Thanks Morgan

    Here is my two cents. I have a 1999 Tiptronic Boxster with 118,000 miles. I picked it up in Sept 09 from a Lexus Dealer in Houston with 104,000 miles for $8,700.00. My recommendation is to just drive it and properly maintain it, but change the oil & filter every 7500 miles instead of what the owner's manual states (for my car it is every 15,000 miles). I use Royal Purple 15W50 and I refuse to go over 7500 miles without changing the oil and filter. You also cannot go wrong by installing a magnetic drain plug. From what I have read and have been told (forums, Excellence Magazine, Car & Driver and my local dealer) concerning buying a Boxster (97-04) is that a medium to high mileage car and hasn't had an IMS failure is not likely to have one, but if you are considering a very low mileage Boxster you are taking a risk. Yet I've always been told to buy the newest and lowest mileage example you can find. Check out the last two editions of Excellence Magazine. It has a two part series on the IMS and the aftermarket replacement. Just my two cents, take it or leave it. MNC-I

    Is there an alternate four(4) pin oxygen sensor that fits the 1997-2004 Boxster yet doesn't cost an arm and a leg? My 1999 Boxster has just over 117,000 miles and I know the four (4) oxygen sensors are original. It is time to change them. I've checked with Pelican Parts and they sell the sensors for $132.75 each. My local parts stores have direct fit senors (Bosch) for $134.00 each and universal fit (Bosch) sensors for $91.00 each, but you have to cut/splice the old sensor's connector to the universal fit sensor in order to connect it to the engine's wiring harness. I hate to ask what price the Porsche dealer sells the oxygen sensors for. Has anyone found Boxster oxygen sensors at a lower price? Thanks MNC-I

    Fellow Members, I need to know if these two part numbers are correct for the center plastic cover (runs parallel with the chassis) and the rear plastic cover (runs perpendicular to the chassis): a) CENTER - 996 504 043 02 b) REAR - 986 504 119 00 When I put my 1999 Boxster up on the lift to change the oil/filter and spark plugs, I discovered big chunks of plastic missing on the center and rear plastic covers. I would like to purchase replacement covers and install them. Is the Porsche Dealer the only place to purchase them from? Any assistance on this will be greatly appreciated.     Greetings, I am new to the forum. I have a Black 1999 Boxter with an automatic and 17 inch factory wheels. I purchased it in Sep 09, from a Lexus Dealer in Houston for $8,700.00 with 104,000 miles (a trade-in). It needed tires so I purchased a set of Sumitomo HTR Z IIs at a great price from Tire Rack ($61.00 for each front and $81.00 for each rear tire). It is my daily driver and has 112,800 miles on it now. I've had the local Porsche dealer change the air filter, oil & filter, replace the ribbed belt and replace the water pump. At 115,000 miles I will personally change the oil & filter and install new spark plugs. The parts came in from Pelican earlier this week. I plan on replacing the stock muffler with a muffler being sold by a company in Plano, TX via Ebay originally for about $550 (chrome, round dual tips). Right now it is on sale for about $450. I don't expect to gain any horse-power or torque, but I do want a deeper exhaust sound.

    Check your water pump. I have a 1999 Boxster with 110,000 miles. My car started having a whirring noise that was related to engine rpms. I thought it was a bad pulley. As it turned out, it was my water pump going bad. Morgan

    Reference tire wear on Boxsters. I have a 1999 Boxster that I have had for three months and put only 1500 miles on it. I just fitted a set of Sumitomo HRT Z IIs. I purhased this set because I knew before I bought the car that the negative camber in the rear plays havic on tires. The rear tires (255/40ZR17) only cost me $81.00 a tire via TireRack and the front tires (205/50ZR17) were only $62.00 each. MNC-I
