  1. I had the same problem. I replaced the engine mount with a 987 mount, ($144 at the dealer). About 45 min later, I also had a smooth shifting Boxster again.
  2. I just hit 100K a few weeks ago! What did I do to celebrate? Put more miles on it and drove down to San Louis Obisbo with my wife on Highway 1. (if you know CA, you know this is a beautiful drive). I bought my 2000 Boxster with 90,000mi last November, thats a little over 10,000 mi in 7 months (yes i drive it a lot). One thing I noticed with Porsches' is that they like to be driven. I know I haven't had the car too long, but I haven't had any major problems. The only things I had to do to the car are pretty normal for Boxsters :Engine mount, rear track arms, wheel bearings. Its a good thing that I work on the car myself, the services I did myself only cost me $500, for all 3! (due to parts). I truly love driving the Boxster and hope its lasts me for a while
  3. Ok that gives me confidence. The Fabspeed pips a too much $$$ for me. An exhaust shop quoted me $375 for the full exhaust from the primary cat back (secondary removed) and magnaflow mufflers. Thats cheaper than the bypass pipes for a whole exhaust.
  4. Thats good to know, so your car did pass without the secondary cats? I know my car passes with the cats, but i just want to make sure it does without it.
  5. I have a question about CA somg. If I delete the secondary cats on a 2000 Boxster, will it still pass? The O2 sensor is before the secondary cats, after the primary, so that shouldn't be an issue. An exhaust shop is willing to delete the secondary cats and due a custom exhaust for $250 (not including mufflers) . I really want to do it, but still want my car to pass.
  6. I wanted to see how the after-market arms are compared to the OEM. It looks like the after-market dont really have a bushing where the OEM Arms do. Anyone have any input on this? If all looks good, ill try an order the arms soon and let everyone know how it went. Also, with the "Clunk" sound, is everyone getting it form the very back near the control arm (with ball joint) or is it sound like its right behind the seats (thats where im getting mine).
  7. Just a question, how much did you get that becker cable for? If it was over $100, its better to just put a new deck in the car. It would provide better sound and give you more function then you would get with the becker.
  8. I have been doing some research on this as well. I have the same problem coming from the rear. I just replace both wheel bearings in the rear and saw nothing wrong with any of the linkage. The one think that I didnt touch that it could be is the rear track arms I have noticed that this is a common problem. They say to check it, hit the track arms with a rubber mallet, it should rattle. If this is so, they are bad.
  9. Hello, It is very easy to put in a deck in your car. Being a professional installer for 6 years (Best Buy and once Circuit City), a 2000 honda civic is harder to do than the porsch. First of all, you do not need any extra parts except an antenna adapter and the VW/ Porsch amplified harness (get it from Metra). This is what you have to do -Pull out the deck using the Keys -Wire up the harness (make sure you TEST the constant wire vs the ACC wire, if i remember correctly, they may be reversed on the harness) -plug in the antenna adapter -mount your cage (yes the fit is very tight) -Slide in the deck -turn on your car !!! Your done! ohh and by the way, this is for the standard system, I do believe the Bose may be different wiring, but similar. Hope this helps.
  10. Ohh I forgot the mention, I live in the bay area in CA, It rarely gets below 30 degrees and above 95 degrees. Should I use 5W40 or 10W40?
  11. Hey guys, I was looking for some Boxster transmission mounts for a 2000 Boxster. I noticed that the 911 996 Engine mounts look identical to the Boxster transmission mounts, except that the 911 engine mounts have a longer bolt stem. The part numbers are also almost the same except at the end (993-375-049-05-M100 for the Boxster Transmission mount w/out the bracket, 993-375-049-06-M270 for the 911 engine mount) I am thinking the last part of the part numbers could only be different because of the length of the stem. If this is the case, then it should work. Ohh and isnt the Boxster almost the same chassis as the 911 except the engine is flipped around to mid engine? The reason why I am asking this is because a pair of engine mounts for the 911 are only $170.00 brand new on ebay, vs almost $270.00 each for the Boxster transmission mounts. This could save a lot of people money :) Let me know what you think
  12. Wow, you guys really did shine some light on this subject. It looks like i am also going to be using some Syntech 10W-40 on my next oil Change. I am still thinking about adding some Lucas oil tho. I will probably use less then recommended, but we will see what happens. I guess if it doesn't work well, i can always skip in on the oil change after.
  13. I am coming up on my next oil change and was wondering if I should put an additive in. I have been putting Lucas oil in my wifes car for a while now and seem to like the results, but am a little skeptical with doing it to the Porsche due to possibilities of the IMS failure. But then again, it could help with the IMS problem and help the engine move more freely. Has anyone put lucas oil in there car? Could it make the oil too thick? I have a 2000 Boxster.
  14. I have been speculating that my transmission mounts are going bad. I took a look at them and was wondering what the play should be on the mounts. To test them, I wiggling the transmission with a bar. I could easily move it around with about an inch of play on each side. Is this normal, or does it seem like they need to be replaced? If they are bad, where is a cheap place to get just the mounts without the brackets? Thanks.
  15. Again, I used a punch. There isn't really any specs for this mod, just do it and find out. Take a chance :) I figure, if I broke my muffler, ill just get an aftermarket, its what I intended in the first place. I did 3 3/4" holes on each side.
  16. I just did that exhaust mod on my 2000 Boxster, but I punched out 3 3/4 inch holes on each side. It sounds perfect and not to loud. I noticed when I put bigger holes in the exhaust, it sounded less "airy" and more natural. Do the larger holes make it louder or do they just change the tone? It makes it a little louder, but not much. I first punched 2 1/2" holes, but it sounded like a honda (it sounded like more air was exiting rather than exhaust, like a fart lol). I then made them bigger and added 1 more, and will add another. IT sounds great. Its not to loud, but gives an aggressive tone. Ohh and BTW, I didnt use a drill, it kept slipping, I even dropped the bit down the muffler (was hard to get out). I used a 1' punch and a hammer :). Worked a lot better, and I didnt need to remove the tip.

  18. Im located in the SF bay area CA. I think they are BF goodrich in the back, I dont know whats in the front. But im looking to trade something, becuase i dont have anything to put on the car if i take them off. But again, im just seeing whats out there for now. I really just wanted to see how much they are worth
  19. The illumination should be on the harness going into the deck. You can use a multi-meter. The illumination wire should test ground when the light switch is off, and 11.8-13V when the light switch is on. Now, this is also true with the dimmer, but the difference is, the dimmer will change voltage if you brighten or darken your interior lights (when switched on), it will range from about 4V-12.8V. Hope this helps. FYI. Dont connect the illumination from the deck to the dimmer, this can damage "some" Decks.
  20. I just got my 2000 Boxster about two weeks ago. They came with 18" OEM sport classic II Wheels. They are 2 peice wheels with the color logo in the middle. I was wondering how much they are worth, I cant seem to find anyone selling some to obtain a market value. I was thinking of trading them for something aftermarket ;) tires are in great condition.
  21. Taking our time, pictures, and being very cautious it took us <2 hours. We could have easily done it in <1hr. We already had the engine on a stand so that makes it easier. Haven't tried it with the engine in the car yet. www.lnengineering.com to order. m So about an hour, plus taking the engine out and putting it back in. I guess thats not that bad. Now, I just bought a 2000 boxster with about 92,500 miles on it. Does it seem logical to do it on mine? I have noticed that it only happens to lower milage cars.
  22. I have been reading about all the IMS scare. How hard is it to replace yourself, and where can I obtain the parts? Mike, how long did it take you?

  24. Ok, let us know how it goes. Does your sound come from the top, under the convertible cover when you go over bumps at slower speeds, and sometimes when you shift out of 1st?
