  1. I've seen the postings concering the loss of power when installing the secondary-cat bypass pipes which only remove the secondary cats. I see that GMP sells a SpeedArt Cat-Delete pipe that seems to remvoed the first or possibly both cats. Has anyone heard anything about these? Will they gaini or lose power? Below is the description that is posted. This is obviously for off-road use only. Porsche Cayenne 957 Turbo Cat-Delete Pipes (SpeedArt PN#: P5720008T) speedART offers a pair of replacement cat-pipes that eliminate the first of two pairs of catalytic converters. The high-polished, stailess steel speedART cat-deletes bolt to the factory turbos re-using OEM gaskets and hardware. The race inspired, dual-plate flanges are made to withstand even the most extreme heat. These flanges are the most important factor on these pipes because the design favors expansion rigidity preventing warping. The entire pipes seams have been TIG-welded for the highest qualtiy strength and aesthetics. The inner welds have been smoothed not to interfere with turbo exhaust flow. The design of the pipes is a result of a number of tests. The cat bulge in the tube actualy prevents cabin resonance, prevelant in less-complicated straight pipe designs.
  2. I'm purchasing a hitch mount bike rack for my wife's QX56 and was wondering if it'll fit my recently purchased Cayenne? Her car comes standard with the receiver. I can see that the Cayenne has a plate that covers that area. Do all Cayenne's have the receiver or would it have to be added if not installed at the factory? Either way, are the receivers 1.25" or 2"? Thanks for your time, Matt
  3. i had the dealer change mine (1 hour labor), i have my original wheel (multi in black) if you are interested Thanks for the offer gixxer1127. However, I have the grey interior and would't want the black steering wheel. Thanks agian for the reply. matt
  4. Thanks for the reply. Actally, I did see that TSB. But, am confused about its application. It says "Only for vehicle with PCM 2.1 (| No. PF1) or PCM 2.1 with off-road naviation (| No. PF2)". I have a MY2004 CAyenne with PCM 2 with 3.0 Operating System. Is PCM 2 the same as PCM 2.1? Is PCM 2 the DVD based system? I have the CD based system. I'm probubly an idiot for not knowing  , but this is a little confusing and I REALLY want to get XM for my Cayenne. I had it in my 996 and really miss it. I just want to be sure on whether it works or doesn't works. My dealer said no, but they're not that competent. They've been wrong before. DOES ANYONE KNOW FOR SURE? Thanks again! :renntech: Matt
  5. The official Porsche website (porsche.com) lists any XM modile that is compatible with the PCM, part #955-044-900-68. Does anyone know for sure if it'll work in a MY04 Cayenne? The website doesn't specify model years, just "1st Generation".
  6. 1. Thanks for everyone's reply so far. I really appreciate the feedback. 2. The heated steering wheel was standard on the Turbo in 04. Listed on the Standard Equipment is "Heated F and R seats and steering wheel". This might only be for the Turbos. 3. Has anyone actually had this apart to confirm that the wires are there? I don't want to seem picky, but I would feel a lot better about ordering the part if I knew someone had theirs apart in the past and can confirm that the wiring is present. 4. How do I change the setting with PIWIS to re-enable the heated steering wheel? 5. Has anyone ever ordered the regular steering wheeL and know the cost? Again, thanks for everyones' reply thus far. Matt :renntech:
  7. I recently purchased a 2004 Cayenne Turbo. The original owner ordered it with the optional wood steering wheel. I don't care for the wood wheel, but could live with it. However, when I learned that this option deleted the heated steering wheel, it made me want to swap it out. Does anyone know if the wiring is still present? Has anyone swapped their steering wheel? What I'm getting at is...how much of a pain would it be to swap this wood wheel for the heated leather one? I would even attempt it if the wiring wasn't already there that runs up thru the steering column and such. I would only attempt it if all I had to do was install the new wheel and plug it in.
  8. I have a 2004 Cayenne Turbo and have read many postings on the loss of power with the bypass/removal of the secondary cats. Like many, I've found this very unusual. I've had 3 turbo charges cars and found that the removal of the cat/s to give a lot more power, not to memtion the reduction of head build-up and faster spool-up. Anyway, has anyone attempted to bypass the main or both cats? Of course, this would be for off-road use only. Has anyone tried this? Also, has there been any changes in the thought that the secondary bypass pipes give no additional power?
  9. Does anyone have suggestions, words of wisdom, lessons learned from a Cayenne window replacement? Should I go OEM or is the PPG replacement ok? I have the Rain Sensing wipers. Any wisdom will be appreciated. Matt
  10. Has anyone been able to wire the Fog Lamps to come on with the Auto Headlamps? I like to always run my fog lamps at night with my headlamps. But, you have to then switch them on manually. I don't mind doing this (I've done it for years on other cars). However, you end up having to cycle through the Auto position which turns the Xenon headlamps on, off, then on again. This is not good for the Xenon headlamps. Any ideas? Matt
  11. Can anyone suggest a good dealer in the Cincinnati, Ohio area? If so, can you suggest a service Tech and/or mechanic to ask for? I have a likely "dealer only" issue. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
  12. I appreciate everyone's' feedback. I had always planned to use a body shop and experienced painter. I ended up taking to a family member that has a body shop and expressed my concern which I've had from the start due to the flexible nature of both the deflectors and mud flaps. Not as much on the wheel well arches due to the fact they do not move much. I have pained items like this before and had them stay nice for years. Preparation is definitely the key. My cousin, who's been painting for years, is going to take every precaution (clean surface, prep, flex additive additive, etc) and he is very confident that I'll have no issues. I'll try to remember to take a photo when it's done and also give feedback after a while (6-12 months). I had body colored, body countered mud flaps on my wide body Celica All-Trac and loved the way they looked and wanted this same look for the Cayenne. We'll just have to wait and see. Again, thanks for all of your feedback. :renntech: Matt
  13. I've recieved my new mud flaps and wheel arch extensions and want to paint them to match the body (silver). I'm also considering removing and painting the small wind deflectors that are in front of the each wheel. Any recommendations or advice? Does anyone have photos of a Cayenne that this has been done on? Matt
  14. Have anyone installed the Sylvania Silverstar clear turn signal bulbs in their Cayenne? My concern is the higher wattage (27W vs stock 21W). I just want to be sure the additional heat doesn't damage anything.
  15. Thanks for the reply to my earlier post. Can you tell me if one of your bulbls that were giving false alerts was the driver's-side front turn signals? It stopped working right after I bought the car. I check the bulb and it didn't appear to be burnt-out. I put the same bulb back in and it worked for about two weeks before it stopped wrrking again. I'm going to replace the bulb tomorrow with a set of Sylvanna clear (yellow when lit) bulbs. I'm a little nervous though becuae they're 27 W instead of 21 W. Also, on a few occasions, I've gotten the 'Place selector in "P"' while I'm driving. This should appear only if you have the car in anything other than park while the engine is off. But, its happening while driving. Have you had this happen? Again, thanks for the post. Matt
  16. I'm going to purchase wheel spacers for my Cayenne. I happen to still have the 17mm wheel spacers from my 996 that I used on the rear when I put on my snow tires (1" narrower). Can I use them? Matt
  17. Do a search for "spacers". One guy has put the spacers on front and back with no issues.
  18. I have a MY2004 Cayenne Turbo with the 20" Sport Techno Tequipment wheels. My set is the one with all the same offset and not the later set with different offsets front and back. Q1: Is the 17mm factory spacers the largest that anyone would suggest? Q2: Can they be put on the front and the back?
  19. I have a MY 2004 Cayenne Turbo (2/03 production) with PCM. Does it play MP3 files? If so, is it on the head-unit CD player and the CD-Changer?
  20. Well, I first had visions of $15k engine replacement when it first started to happen. Then, like everyone else I'm sure, I was ranting in the gargage about "how does a $90k+ car do this. This is rediculous. I've owned a dozen cars costing a fraction of this car. My wife was sick of hearing about it" It was a relief to only pay $400. If your drive to shop is anything like mine, it was pretty funny. When I drove straight, there was no smoke. But, whenever I made any type of turn, it looked like a James Bond smoke screen. JUST LAUGH AS IT HAPPENS!!. and TAKE EXTRA OIL. I should have stopped before I got to the shop. My Low Oil Light was on by the time I got to the shop. But, there was no damage. Good luck!!f Matt
  21. I broke just the taller guide fin. The large one that's on the in-board. I must be crazy. I thought it about this thing all night on Friday. The fact that I broke that fin and that I put a few scratches on the lens drove me crazy (I know better, I should have been more careful). I ended up buying a new unit from Sunset for just under $500. I've had stuff happen like this before. I do some small damage to a car. Something that doesn't hamper usage. But, it bugs me ever time I look at it for the entire time that I own it. So, instead I just bit the bullet and bought a new one. The old one is still very usable and the scratches are small. I'll probubly buy the old one on Ebay with photos of the small damage to recoup a few bucks. Thanks for everyone's input. I don't know what I would do without this site. It's saved me much time, energy and money. All of you are great!!! Matt
  22. UPDATE: The car, a 02 C4S, continued to blow smoke more and more. The cause was a bad Oil/Air seperator. It was about $600 installed and totally fixed the problem. If your 996 starts blowing smoke at start-up, during hard accelerations and/or during hard turns, just save yourself time and pain and just get the O/A seperator replaced. By the time I replaced it, it blew about 4 qts of oil from my house to the shop (15 miles). It was almsot comical on how much smoke it was pumping out.
  23. I'm cosidering purchasing an additional "Cayenne turbo" rear emblem and having it painted red or black so it stands out a little more. I have a silver car and the silver emblems get lost in the sea of silver. I really liked the red S on my C4S. Has anyone removed the OEM emblems? Any suggestions or guidance would be greatly appreciated!
  24. I've recently traded in my C4S for a Cayenne Turbo. Love the vehicle!! I know I do not have the Tire Pressure Monitoring System (TPMS) sensors in my rims. The rims are the TechEquipment 20"s. How do I check to see if the first owner simply didn't buy the sensors for these rims? Meaning, is it possible that all I have to do is buy the monitors the next time I buy tires? Is there a way to see if the vehicle is TPMS ready? Thanks!! Matt
  25. I too was very unhappy with the unusually long throw on my 02 C4S. I added the Porsche OEM short shifter kit assembly a few years ago and then added the rear B&M assembly where the cables go into the transmission a few months back. The combination of both pieces made it the best shifter I've ever had. Funny thing is that I traded the car in for a Cayenne Turbo a month later. Oh well, someone will enjoy it. If you haven't also added the rear assembly, I highly suggest it. My local shop, The Garaj (Dayton, Ohio, HIGHLY SUGGESTED), was able to order just the rear assembly. It's a simple piece of metal that just moves the pivot point. I belive it cost about $100.
