  1. Nothing is more frustrating than damaging something when you're working on your car. Anyway, 1. I cracked the main, inboard, guiding rail on the headlight assembly while removing. I repaired it with an apoxy, but it didn't hold while I was re-installing. It seems to be alright after re-installation. However, has this happened to anyone else? If so, was it an issue? I'm trying to decide if I'm going to replace the unit. 2. How much should the removal/intall tool rotate when locking the headlight into place? I thought my 996 rotated close to 180 degrees. But, the Cayenne only rotated 45 degrees. It also didn't feel like it "locked" into place. 3. How much does a new headlight assembly cost? Thanks for any help!
  2. Does anyone have illustrations and/or good instructions on the oil replacement steps for a 2004 Cayenne Turno?
  3. I recently bought a MY2004 Cayenne Turbo (Mar 2003 Production Date). I've had it for about amonth and love the vehicle so far. However, on a few occasions, the display is displaying "Swith selector lever to position "P"" while I'm driving. Any ideas.
  4. I'm not sure that I can help. This is the first time that I've contributed. But, I did put a short shifter on my 02 C4S a few years ago. I also had issues removing the shifter. I didn't want to damage anything, so I was pretty nervous. After reading the same instructions that you most likely got off this site, I tried to find a screw to loosen the shifter. After talking to a few people, I found out that the basic shifter does not have a screw. It is secured purely by friction. So, one night I tried to just pull the thing off. Though it took a lot of effort, it finally pull off with no issues. I've since sold the car, but it's still listed on Luxury Motors' web-site. So, I've down-loaded a picture of the shifter that I had (see attached). So, if it looks like this one, I can attest that it just pulls off. I hope I uploaded the photo correctly and I hope I helped.
  5. I'm considering trading in my 2002 Carrera 4S for a 2004 Cayenne Turbo. Ca someone give me suggestions on what to look for. I found one with 22k miles in Chicago and was wondering if there were problem areas that I should inspect prior to purchase. Any help would be appreciated.
  6. Thank you very much for the reply. I also suspected that I've taken it to The Garaj in Dayton. He said that his initial look at it doesn't indicate that problem due to no oil being in the coolent. Would this cause this? Also, when I drove it to the shop I noticed that it only smoked (a LOT) after or during a turn. Thoughts?
  7. Help! I have a 2002 C4S with 55k miles. I've never raced it, but admit to a WOT acceleration from time to time. A few months ago following an on-ramp (with a slight right hand bend) acceleration, the car through a large puff of smoke and then smoked for the next few start-ups. I searched on this site (great site!) and found that it happened to a few other people and that is was likley not a big deal. It did this two more times. HOWEVER, it did this last week. But, this time it continues to smoke. It doesn't seem to smoke while the car is moving, But, when I pull away from a light the car puts out a smoke screen that James Bond would be proud of (but not me). I'm embarresed. I paid more than 3 times for this car than I've ever paid for a car before and the engine is smoking at 55k miles. Any advice? Is this the dreaded sleave problem that I've heard so much about? I thought that was fixed in the earlier 996s. It might not matter, but I did just replace the clutch a few weeks ago.
  8. Can anyone recommend a reputable body shop in the Dayton, Ohio area? Someone backed into my 2002 Carrera C4S with her SUV last Friday. I was parked 50ft from any other car and she backed all the way accross the lot into my car. :(
  9. No decision yet. Porsche sells OEM Snow tire package for $3,917.54. A little pricey. I got that price through Sunset. I just want to be sure I get the same look with the 10 wide rims in the rear. I don't want them sitting in too far relative to the fender. The way I calculated it, will need a 3.3 mm spacer with the 10" wide rims with 47 mm offset. Does this sound right?
  10. Any suggestions on a FITTED heavy duty floor mat for a 2002 Carrera 4S to be driven in winter?
  11. I have 2002 C4S. I know I have 11" wide rims on the rear. I want to purchase an extra set of factory rims for a set of snow tires. I've been told that I'll use the same size in the front and 10" wide in the rear. Does anyone know the offset the 11" wide I have now and the 10" wide they made that look the same? I want to buy spacer that will bring the rim face in the same relative position that the 11" are now. I will NOT be using chains, so I'm not interested in having them sit farther in. Any help?
  12. I have a 2002 Carrera 4S. I just added the Terk "XM Commander" XM radio receiver to my factory CR-220. I'm now getting a LOT of radio noise when I use the XM radio. It's so loud, that it's not even worth using it when the engine is running. It sounds great when the car is off. I used the Becker accessory kit to use the RCA inputs. I first used the Cell Phone connector for power and ground. I then moved the ground to a nearby structure screw and the power lead from the Becker radio. This did not fix it. I've installed at least a dozen or so radios, but have never had this problem. Does anyone have any suggestions or has anyone else ran into this? Help. Please.
  13. So, has anyone installed one of these (Double DIN) units yet? If so, how did it go and do you have pictures?
  14. Has anyone successfully installed a Double DIN unit? If so, what it a straight bolt-in job or did you have to do some changes? The opening on the top for the HVAC system looks taller than a standard DIN opening. Am I correct?
  15. Has anyone installed a Double DIN stereo in a 996? The AVIC-N1/2 is a nice unit, but I don't like the screen dangling out there. I would rather install the Kenwood DDX7015. Either that or I would like to just add a XMCommander XM radio transmitter through my CR-220 head-unit. I do have the CD changer, so I don't think I can use Becker's Aux. wire kit. That would force me to not use the CD changer and all I have is cassette in the head-unit.
