  1. I had the wheels refinnished ($100 each) and as long as the damage is outside of painted area there is no problem.
  2. I have the center lock rally wheels that are painted to match body color gray. The edge is scratched and I would like to have it refinnished. The painted area stops about a third of an inch from the edge but it looks there is some other (clear?) finnish to the edge. Question is can these wheels be refinnished like ordinary wheels?
  3. I bought my turbo a couple of months ago and at the time I was told by several dealers that the '11 model would only be available as a Turbo S. According to the Porsche website the S standard equipment includes sport chrono and PTV? Anyway, the car is amazing and is completly flat in the corners and always holds the line. Even in the rain or poor road conditions, it never gets undone. Franly, I can't tell what the PVT is doing since all the other sytems and the dynamic engine mounts are all contributuing to the total effect. My wife has a '10 C4S and that does not have the PTV or dynamic engine mounts. When it is in sport mode the courning is also excellent. The point at which it might make a differnce is so far beyond my experience that it really doesn't matter.
  4. I just hit 2000 milies and there is NO oil use. I checked the level at 300 miles and it showed down very little, maybe 1/4 quart, and today no change. I know that there have been several comment/questions about oil use. Also, our other car, 2010 C4S Cab also at 2000 miles, same no oil use. So, after a around 500 miles things started to feel not so tight. At 2000 miles I like to shift out of first around 3.5-4K for smoothness, after that really streach out 2nd and 3rd as mush as possible (6-6.5K) because it happens so fact and the feel is incredible. After car is warmed up I usually go to sport plus and up shift manually and let it down shift automatically. The auto downshift in sport plus gives the best blip/sound and its very nice.
  5. from wsj: http://online.wsj.co...hp_editorsPicks I now have 1000 mils on it. Favorite way to drive it is in sport plus. Upshift in manual and then move shifter to auto position for incredible downshifts. Better than any drug I've tried. Tomorrow I drive on a 400 mi round trip to meet a customer. After seeing what I'm driving probably last time they but anything from me!
  6. 09 upgrades awesome. No question about it. have had both 997.1 & 997.2 so I should know. 09 C2S.
  7. What are you doing about the break in period? I have a few hundred miles on it and it feels like it's just getting it together or maybe it's me. Haven't tried launch control yet but maybe soon. At what mileage did you do launch control?
  8. I couldn't wait so I bought a turbo cab that you can see on the turbo page. My new plan is to wait till there is a 998 turbo probably in 3-4 years and trade to that. After talking to several dealers it became clear that nobody really knows when the 998 will be available and why go through another summer without my own cab! Wife won't share.
  9. We did a search on all dealers in New England. This one was in Fairfield CT and was configured by their sales manager, John. What I found was that 2010 production was cut way back due to poor economy and all dealers got one coupe and one cab. Higher volume dealers got a couple more. They are all built and delivered. You can't order one. There will be no more 2010 turbos. Next car will be a 2011 turbo S and same deal only very few will be made. There will be NO 2012 car and next Turbo will be 998 series, maybe 2013 model. As of now, number of available turbos in the entire country that are Cab/PDK and not Black are around 11. That's it.
  10. 19" RS Spyder wheels with center lock. Rims & caps exterior color. Total $5325.
  11. It's been five days and I can't get the smile off my face. I won't go on about how awesome it is but I'd be happy to answer any questions.
  12. That is a gorgeous car. Why do you envy your wife's porch? We traded a '07 C2S Cab/Manual for the '10 C4S Cab PDK/Chrono/Sport exhaust. The change was much more than we had expected. The new 997.2 is a much different car that only looks the same. The really big difference is the PDK with the sport chrono. It's just more fun than you can imagine. It's a real Jeckel/Hyde thing. When in sport plus it's ballistic! The sport exhaust reduces back pressure so when you're coasting to a stop light the thing is making the best noises with pops and very nasty sounds. The turbo will prevent a divorce.
  13. Well, I did this yesterday. 2010 Turbo Meteor Grey/Carrera Red PDK/PTV with abosoltely every option! I've been posting on the 997-2 Series Carrera board about the beautiful C4S Cab that my wife bought a few months ago. I found that I'd developed a severe case of porsch envy (she won't let me drive it) and the only solution was this. Car is being delivered on Thursday so I'll make a report after that.
  14. nice video: http://www.topspeed....en-ar86522.html I'm calling the local dealers to see what they say.
  15. I’m thinking about adding another Porsche to our garage. Does anyone have information about the 998? When dealers can take orders and what versions will first be available?
  16. 4 vs. 2 1. wider rear end really cool. 2. feeling the incredible grip also good thing.
  17. Mark: Yes, manual shifting will soon be a lost art like faxing was once way cool. I think the idea of manual shifting is very much like in a sailboat where you can have a rudder or a wheel. Many believe that a rudder gives better feedback/control? I question your statement about controlling torque and maximizing the powerband. You do know that in Sport Plus mode all upshifts are manual so when are you not controlling powerband? So main difference is only engagement/disengagement of gears and during manual shifts there is a period, no matter how brief, where there is NO power to the wheels, right? And if someone is distracted by playing with their ipod/phone/nav/whatever then maybe they shouldn't be driving.
  18. Fair enough. In favor of PDK: It's fun. When not thinking about clutch you can spend more time piloting the car and enjoying the experience. More connected to the car not less. It's fun. Ferrari no longer offers manual trans at all. It's fun. Things that you can do with your left foot: Count to five. .
  19. Oh, I forgot the most important part the PDK! I haven't used the launch control yet because I have only <1000 miles and both the manual and Loren insist that revs be limited to 4500 for first 2000 miles and launch control is at 6500. My dealer says 300 miles is breakin period so maybe I'll split the difference and try it soon. It's not mentioned anywhere but you only get the blip on downshift if you have sport chrono and PDK in sport plus. The sport exhaust sound on the downshift blip is worth the admission price.
  20. 2010 911 S4 Cab sport chrono, sport exhaust. Placing it in sport plus and pushing down on the pedal is the most fun that I have ever had in a car. Period. It actually makes you look better and feel better than you really are. Any of you interested in a unique and wild ride - go to a Porsche store and try one with this setup. You will not be disappointed.
  21. I have a 2010 4S with sport exhaust. The car was not originally equipped with it and had it added at time of purchase the catalog price is $2800, and the dealer charged something for the labor. Previously had a ’06 997 s with sport exhaust so I can give you a good comparison. The change in engine resulted in a different sound where the 3.6 was more throaty and the 3.8 has more of a snarly sound and is not as boomy. The addition of the sport exhaust nicely amplifies the sound in both. In my opinion I prefer the new sound. It’s meaner and threatening. I always drive with it on. Also, the new sport exhaust tips have an interesting kind of high tech look with a pipe inside outer pipe with diagonal cut and two tone colors. I posted a picture on my thread of a few days ago. Very nice.
