  1. Hello, I've got a back-up camera that requires a connection to the accessory power (the camera will connect to my iphone via wifi) and not to the reverse light (I have tried one of those before but the trigger does not provide enough power for the camera - I believe due to the LED lights). That said, I need to find an accessory powered line that is located in the back of the car. The only think that I can think of is the license plate light, but that isn't accessory and would require me to turn the headlights on every time I need to use the camera (it is ok, but not ideal). Any suggestions?
  2. Any updates on this? Did you buy a new unit? I constantly have issues with mine restarting on its own, or turning off. I am hoping Porsche will launch a updated version with Apple play soon (like they did with the 996 and older ones). The other option would be to replace with an aftermarket but I heard that it isn't simple and I prefer to keep it original.
  3. It is resolved. I lifted the car, checked all bolts, tied them (found one or two not properly tied due to a last minute rush - lesson learned) and had to replace one. All in all, the car is running better and the MPG issue appears to have been solved. Not sure exactly what created the issue.
  4. Hello, Two weeks ago I replaced my spark plugs and, other than the car adjusting after I started it for the first time (rpm was dropping, then it would stabilize, then back to normal...this only happened this once), everything seemed well. Today when I was driving I noticed my mpg average at 11.x mpg (I haven't driven the car much since the replacement.) I was not concerned but decided to reset it. It started showing a MPG at around 19.4 and then began dropping as I drove it (all my driving was at normal urban speed and acceleration.) I parked the car in my garage (at this point mpg at around 16) and, with the car stopped, watch it continue to drop until I turned the car off (at around 14.2mpg.) So, any ideas? I got the Bosch FGR5NQE04 plugs (did not make any adjustments to them as I think they come pre-set for the car.) Not really sure what is going on. Is the car actually using this much gas or the system is going crazy?!
  5. I think that I am having the same issue. Can you please clarify what you mean by "'rear' end out from the dash." Do you mean on the top part near the windshield?
  6. First of all, Joost (flying penguin) thank you very much for your help! The process went well! Removing the front bumper is an exercise of patience with all of the screws, underbody/ wheel area covers, etc... but no major issues, the car is very well built and engineered. I would say that the only "unique" part of it was a long metal clip (the last clip to be removed before bumper comes off and the first that you need to place back) that holds the bumper to the body of the car (pic 15& 16 of the DIY below). The airbag sensor is located under the headlight a bit towards the center of the car (see pictures). It is just a question of replacing it. Here are some pictures of the part and location. After the part was removed we used the durametric tool to check for errors and everything was back to normal! http://www.renntrack...-Bumper-Removal Airbag sensor - blue part below headlight
  7. Here is the link for the airbag light post http://www.renntech.org/forums/topic/40582-porsche-carrera-997-manual-c2-57k-airbag-light-after-clutch-replacement/
  8. Hello, So the day after I replaced my clutch (http://www.renntech.org/forums/topic/40310-diy-clutch-replacement-997/page__fromsearch__1) I had a very nice surprise!!! My airbag light decided to blink to welcome a new day and a new project...you can only imagine how happy I was!!! Long story short, I took my car to my local mechanic and he told me that sometimes after the battery is off for a few hours parts that are near the end of life can be damaged after a new juice (I guess, they work if nothing happens but after the battery was off for nearly 12hrs the part did not take the power...i don't know). So I have these two errors: 805A and 80F9. My mechanic said that I need to replace the passenger sensor...does anyone know the part number for this? Is this a simple fix, I'm guessing remove the bumper and replace the part (and pray for nothing new)? Thank you for your help!!!! Cheers, Leonardo.
  9. Ok, sorry for the delay on uploading the pictures...but after holidays, NYE, etc... I'm finally ready! As for the steps, the link given by Steen (http://www.c-speedr....996rms/rms1.php) shows everything that you need, with minor differences (for example the shift cables are slightly different but not much). As I mention on Dec 20th, the slave cylinder is a "lovely" piece of engineering and it will give you trouble...whatever you do don't take it a part, it won't help....try to have in place before the transmission is all back, if possible, if not you will have to work to get in place. So here are a few pictures, not much since the link above give you a very good step by step explanation! Thank you very much for all your help!!! My next step is to fix the airbag error, I will be placing the link below as soon as I have the topic started. securing the car. removing axles securing transmission Pressure plate, clutch disk and flywheel (we actually believe that the pressure plate was the problem) Engine - IMS happy to see that it was dry, only clutch dust New seal New clutch and pressure plate in!
  10. Ok, so I replaced the clutch!!! Not the easiest thing but not impossible, just a lot of work (a friend of mine that have a good understanding of cars helped me). The biggest issue was the clutch slave cylinder...we had a hard time putting it back after transmission was in place. We had to disconnect the tubing for better handling...then had an issue placing into the cylinder. Then, we took the cylinder out again, was able to put it all at once but then had to bleed the system...with a bad bleeder...long story short, the transmission work was around 6hrs (with lunch and getting some extra parts) and an additional 4-5hrs dealing with clutch, bleeder, brake fluid, getting a new bleeder, etc... So, whatever you do don't disconnect the slave cylinder and tubing unless you are ready to deal with bleeding the system. I will post some pictures later, the process is very similar to the 996... One final issue...after everything was complete, the day after my air bag light decided to come on!!!! Probably because battery was unplugged for a long time...anybody near Houston with a durametric tool that I could use to turn it off??
  11. Hello, I'm getting ready to replace the clutch on my 2006 997 and I'm having a very hard time finding a DIY online (to be honest, I can't even find a decent service manual online to buy). I have even searched for the 996 but the link that I found isn't working. Any help?? If you know where I can find for the 996 that should work also! Thank you very much!!! Cheers,
  12. Ok, so I have a question. I'm finding the pressure plate and disc for $ 238 ( http://www.carpartsshed.com/Catalog/Default.aspx?Make=Porsche&Model=911&YearID=2006&Part=Clutch%20Pressure%20Plate%20and%20Disc%20Set&sModel=CARRERA&engine=6%20Cyl%203.6L ) and the release bearing for $190 ( http://www.ebay.com/itm/Sachs-Clutch-Release-Bearing-/390362410785?pt=Motors_Car_Truck_Parts_Accessories&fits=Make%3APorsche&vxp=mtr&hash=item5ae369af21 ) But the kit is $615 - Pressure plate, disk and release bearing ( http://www.ebay.com/itm/330609005358?ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1438.l2648 ), what is the catch...if I order separately I save almost $190?
  13. Thank you gentlemen! Steen, should I look for a alignment tool? Is this a Porsche specific item? Cheers!
  14. Aaron, Do you think that I should replace the flywheel seal and intermediate bearing flange seal even if I don't have to replace the flywheel (I'm hoping not since I have not driven the car since I realized that it was slipping)? And if yes, do you know part no. for them or a link? (I could not find on pelican parts). Thx!!!
  15. Hi, A week ago my clutch begin feeling a bit "squishy", shifting felt different and car would tremble a bit when begin moving on first gear. Next day I did the common clutch test...drove at 30-40 in 5th gear, nothing. But when I did the same on 4th the RPM began raising but the speed didn't ... so I'm assuming it is the clutch. My car is 2006 with 57K. I consider myself a good driver and don't abuse the clutch but I got the car with 30K, therefore, I can't say the same about the original owner. Now, is there a way to ensure that the clutch is the issue before taking it a part? How do I know that isn't the clutch slave or master cilinder...or something else? Thank you for your responses!!!! Also, if it is the clutch...any issues with buying the kit from Sachs' brand? And is there a how to replace a clutch guide on Renntech? cheers!!!
  16. Thank you Loren!!! One final question, on the DIY, after drain the oil, it just say to refill with new oil....but where? I'm not sure on the 997 is the reservoir for the transmission oil. Is there a hose that goes up to the engine?
  17. So, which oil did you use? And is the a DIY tutorial for this? My shifting is not the greatest sometimes and I would like to see if this will help.
  18. Hi, I have a 2006 997 that I'm planning on replacing with a 2006 or 2007 Carrera S with Chromo Pckg. Is there anything that I should be in the look out for? Also, I know that the 997 has issues with the battery loom cable and other minor things...is there anything specific with the added technology (chromo pckg) that will cause me additional problems? And is there any big differences between the 06 or 07? Also, as for extended warranty...should I have the money in the bank for future work instead of paying for a warranty upfront and not knowing if the issue will come or not? Thank you very much for any info that you can give me!!! Leonardo
  19. Last week I took the car to the mechanic and after running all of the diagnostics he found that the cable was the problem. Total bill was $730 (cable $130) + labor + diagnostics, etc... Car is running like new!!!
  20. The little box should be located on the passenger side of the transmission. It is a plastic black box (maybe 2 inches long) that you have to open to see the cables, as on picture. My issue is that apparently my charging system is not working properly. I was hoping that it was just a manner of cleaning the connections. But apparently it is more than that since it was fairly clean and I still have the same problem. As for location, you have to remove the first under carriage cover (over the rear axle) and you should be able to see mounted to the passenger side of the transmission. This could solve your problem…but did not solve mine. My problem is that my battery is not getting charged fast enough after starting the car…therefore, if my car does not rest (or run for a while) before stopping it will not start again. The battery does not have enough juice to start. Battery was replaced but it is not the problem. Paul, do you know if replacing the voltage regulator on the alternator could potentially solve the problem? Regards,
  21. Paul, I was able to get under the car and I believe that I found what you said (mounted to the transmission on the passenger side) but appear to be very clean. I'm trying to upload the picture but I can't. Could you send me your email so I can send you the pictures. I can't find an upload button, it is asking me for a URL! I don't know how to do this...
