  1. .. out of morbid curiosity, is there any way to actually tell if an owner did not follow the break-in procedures? i.e. rev'd over 4k before the first 2000 miles(or whatever..), short of running redline for hours on end?
  2. Yes, Dension, with their magic icelink. The one that has been reportedly "on its way" since I've first clicked on their website in August of 2003. Yes, my name was added to their waiting list for my SAAB when GM decided to implement MOST on their new 9-3. My SAAB is sitting sobbing next to my Porsche awaiting its icelink or other non-mythical iPod integration kit. Does Dension actually exist, or are they just a website?
  3. .. is that for all regions? I can't for the life of me recall what I had bought for refills, but it was exactly what I had written down as the words had left the service manager's mouth... and for whatever reason, I'm not thinking it was Mobile 1 0W-40. <edit> I'll be damned, it IS 0W-40.
  4. 2005 Boxster S burns about 1/2 quart per roughly 2000 miles. It is my "high speed grocery getter"; it is never driven lightly. Not sure if this is "normal" consumption, but something to compare against I suppose.
  5. ... which doesn't seem to apply to Porsche or BMW CD Players, but on the same token, does by the aforementioned account. Astonishing :cursing:
  6. Unfortunately, I have been unable to get a hold of anyone at the Texas office of Ruf Auto Centre. I'm wondering what issues I would be running into by having them transplant a 997S motor into my 987S (no PASM). This is a recent accomplishment for their firm. The conversion looks as if it consists mainly of engine related components (997S motor + ECU + headers) but doesn't look as if it uprates the clutch, transmission, mounts, etc. Any ideas/personal experience?
  7. Out of curiosity, what does the hard top do for ride noise? I'm assuming it would be slightly more insulated than the soft top. Any comments on ease of installation/removal?
  8. Ah, a 986? Most of us 987 guys are just plain lazy and take it to the dealer for this type of stuff. Guess we won't get very technical until we're in your boat w/ an out of warranty vehicle.
  9. :o Holy cow. How much for just the software, looks like it's Win32, kind of like the SAAB WIS example I posted in the "Part number request" forum.
  10. so on p 48 of my 2005 owners manual, it shows that, but in my car, it doesn't. "Note: The key switch and the warning light "PASSENGER AIRBAG OFF" are not installed at the factory. They can be retrofitted at your authorized Porsche dealer." Are these now being fitted from the factory? <edit> and if so, did I ruin a good trivia question? ;-)
  11. What does the "screen" say beneath the shifter? Is this the "Passenger Airbag Not Activated" that seems to be missing from my '05? I agree w/ 0586slb, it would be nice to have this "Valet" option for the kiddies at the car parks.
  12. no more rubber plug for faux dipstick? Hmm, after looking at both pics without foggy late night eyes, there appear to be rubber dipstick plugs on both 05 and 06s. Will hand this off to one of the kids of the guys at work who routinely studies "Highlights for Children", specifically "What's wrong with this picture"
  13. There is some hope on the horizon. There are a handlfull of companies (on the magnatude of 2) who are pursuing a MOST implementation of an iPod or other auxillary port integration. This would be applicable to just about any MOST-Bus system, which would be most beneficial to the inventor/creator of the system. Keep an eye out, it will most likely occur within the next 12-18 months. Sorry.
  14. noticeably different under hard accelleration or also while driving the interstates?
  15. ... why do I have the voice of an infomercial announcer in my head .. "It's just that easy!!" Good to know info for cleaning them I suppose.
  16. None of the rags seem to be speculating yet: "What Porsche will do to the Cayman is add a more affordable 250-hp version in 2007" - Automobile 8/2005 It should be noted the cover page says: PORSCHE CAYMAN Flat-Out In The Boxster Coupe - Faster And Cheaper Than a 911
  17. .. you mean like the countless "M" badges and "AMG" badges I see on the way to/from work? Sheesh. "Wow, must be that limited edition 318i M"
  18. sometimes its rubber (a REALLY spirited drive), most times its a faint smell of oil (per manual, oil consumption is higher than normal during first few miles), other times its a plasticy smell from some protective coating burning the rest of the way off. Most new cars have this weird burning smell for the first few miles, at least the three I've had in the past two years have. Again, mine is literally a month old, an '05 987 S. Don't even have plates. If yours is much "older" and you're still having burning smells, you might want to bring it in.
  19. mine is about a month old and I still smell things burning off after a spirited drive.
  20. Can US Techs access ROW programming options?
  21. Looking for an Electronic Service Manual (WIS/Workship Information System), much like the one I have for my SAAB. Makes life a lot easier. Needs to cover: USDM 987S
  22. Looking to perform an ashtray-ectemey (surgical removal of the ashtray, which I dont currently use) in my '05 Boxster S. Instead of tearing into the existing components, I'd rather play doctor on some battle spares. Looking for the following PNs: Ashtray Lid (Part of Assy 997 553 141 01) Center Console Apparently the stops for the ashtray and the cigarette lighter housing are integrated into the center console. Thanks
  23. being a total noob to porsche, does it deliniate between air/water cooling?
  24. makes sense, who knows... I take it automatic door locking on drive off is something the dealer can program.. is there a "list" floating around somewhere of all of the options you can have set?
  25. Hi all, I recently took delivery of an '05 Boxster S and have little to no interest in hauling around, well, anything :D My wife, otoh, is currently driving around HER '05 Mercedes ML. After having her brakes fail on her, causing an accident (oh yes, you read that correctly), she has subsequently lost faith in the silver star and is looking elsewhere to satisfy her hauling needs (I'm still unsure exactly as to what those all are!) In any case, her only requirement is that it be able to tow our boat, a 25' sloop, as well as the other tasks associated with towing boats (launching & retrieving..). Does anyone have insight into towing & launching boats or PWCs with their Cayenne's? Any insight into Salt Water vs. Cayenne? (i.e. does water get "trapped" certain places?) How is the navigation system? The ergonomics of the navi in the ML would be better if the vehicle were RHD. The power/volume knob are clear across the cabin on the passenger side, along with many of the navi inputs, not to mention it is very difficult to adjust the "nag" volume (lady giving directions) within the navi itself. At the risk of being shot and drug through the street, are there any clear functional advantages to owning a well equipped Cayenne base model vs. a comparably equipped Touareg? (ducking for cover). Thanks in advance, Matt
