  1. I want to share my story to help us, owners, understand about Cayenne.

    The symptom began like this:

Everyday when first start the car - put it in Drive, hit the accelerator, the car won’t go after 1-2-3 seconds then the transmission engaged causing a big jerk. It’ll do that every time I stop at a stop sign or traffic light. After about 15 minutes of driving the problem gets better but not gone, it’ll do that unexpectedly. To solve the problem temporary, I used manual shifting.

Took it to the dealer. They replaced the Transmission Control Module. Before the day was over, they called and said a different fault code appeared, it’s a gear indicator sensor (or something similar to that) and that the sensor is inside the transmission. To replace this sensor, I need a new transmission (!?!?).

Somebone must have watched over me when I bought the car, I bought extended warranty because this is my first Porsche, don’t know anything about it.

The warranty Rep. came out and confirmed that the transmission is bad and approved for a replacement!

After a few days, I called the dealer to check for status, they said the transmission is replaced but still received a fault code and they thing that it’s the Transmission Control Module. They replaced the “more expensive version or the latest version” of the Control Module.

Well, I got my car back and it’s operating normal now, after spending 13 days in the dealer (between holidays & week ends).

  2. It's my turn to install the hitch to my truck. I don't use it to tow anything, just use it for bike-rack, so I'm not going to worry about lighting (lucky me). Any way, I click on the links on the email trail to get some instructions/photos but I guess all the links are expired. Does anyone have instructions/photos for this after market installation? It's a '04 CayenneS.

    Thank you,

  3. I'm really confused.

Loren sent me a sheet which listed all type of oils that used in the Cayenne '04. In there, it lists ATF as the oil for the Transfer Case (sounds a bit strange).

I called 2 Porche dealers in my area to purchase the "Transfer Case" oil; one dealer said to use any synthetic 75/90; the other dealer said to use any synthetic 75/80. This is from the Porsche dealer!

I then called another dealer in Houston TX (for no reason), they said to use ATF & faxed the sheet similar to the one Loren sent me.

I called another dealer in Las Vegas, the parts guy said that they only sell the oil in bulk of $450 container & don't know what type it is!

WHAT IS THE CORRECT TRANSFER CASE OIL?

    Thanks,

    Manmn

  4. I’m a new ’04 Cayenne S owner; I believe I have the exact problem. When the engine is cold, it is more severe; it happened to me a couple of times when I sit at an intersection waiting for the traffic light to turn green, when it turned green, I stepped on the accelerator, the car moved enough so that it’s right in the middle of the road then the car paused [stopped]. I think at that time it’s searching for the right gear then suddenly it switched to first gear and jerk real hard then it moved on.

So now when I first drive the car, I use manual mode until the car really warmed up…

I’m still looking for an answer. If anyone has any suggessions, please advice.

    Thank you in advance.

  5. Thanks so much for your fast response.

I found the maintenance booklet and there are bunch of numbers stamped on the inside cover. For example:

    1. Vehicle's VIN

    2. AE1 9PA / 9PAAE1 PAG Cayenne BASIS 250KW --- LM3W VS OTTO AG6 ---

    3. X7F BOD CJ6 GOR H9K J2C D9K Q2J 1G8 2PH 1NP 5RR 5SG T91

    4. OBB 3S4 QGO 8DU 8GH 8ZM 1KY 1LL 3FE OGM

    5. OY1 4UB 4F6 N1X 5MA 9VL 2JB EOA OAB OBB OJF OYC

    What am i looking for?
