  1. Yup pics look like the dfi engine. You've sheered the bolt. You need to remove the old bolt via drilling or "easy out" tool. Then replace with a new one. That's it you'll be back on the road in no time. I would think when the belt was replaced the guy who fixed it forced the tensioner idler too much and may have damaged the bolt. Your fortunate it happened that way and not on a long highway when your running at high speeds.
  2. my experience with pdk clutch oil replacment. The clutch oil that came out of my C2S looked like new! 40k kms. as our moderators have said the piwis is necessary so no diy on this one. since the clutch oil looked new i would say that there is actually minimal wear on the wet clutches after 40k. these things are robust! the filter is not part of the maintenenace requirement. i also had the gearbox oil replaced and it too looked like new. all for peace of mind. after the change there seemed to be a different feel to the pdk. though responsive there were a bit of jerks. i asked the dealer to recheck teh level and sure enough the level was low and about 400ml had to be added. everytyhing was fine after..
  3. hi Loren, yes you are right. the porsche parts catalog indicates the whole unit. but i really think its crazy spending that much money on an aluminum radiator that cost $200 max! there are parts for the heater, blower, thermostats, expansion valves, receiver driers etc etc. but$1400 on something where the problem is a cheap part.. im hoping someone has actually compared the evaporator core of the 997.2 with the .1 or the 996's. reason is the evaporator care can actually be removed from the assy and replaced individually! you just need to remove a few screws... This is like replacing the whole unit just because the foam insulation on the flaps are flying our of the vents!! that can be remedied by buying $10 worth of foam and some glue!! not $1400. im sure the information we can gather here in this post will be helping other porsche enthusiasts that will encounter the same problem.. an aftermarket repalcement evaporator core for a 996 cost less than $100 and a better brand around $250 vs $1700 for oem assy. that is a lot of money!
  4. Dye coming out with the condensate from the evaporator drain confirms my hunch, a leaking evaporator. Looking at the more popular suppliers, the evaporator comes in a complete housing. Isnt there a core replacement part anywhere? Is it the same for the 996 and 997.1. My car is a C2S 997.2?
  5. Jfp, your right but you know how these companies respond. Was hoping a brother who encountered this before could share experiences
  6. Ac compressor might need replacement. From parts catalog it's 9a112601102 apparently with Denso number 4471500085. However, looking at the Denso catalog it says 4711325 compressor will fit! Are these 2 compressors interchangeable? Replacement looks like a diy procedure. It's just the part that I'm concerned with. The 4711325 Denso compressor is more readily available, The 9a112601102 less so. Car is a 2010 C2S
  7. Apparently for my case in a span of 36k kms. The control arms, the diagonal ones connected to the wishbones, had gone twice. The cars is a 2010, control arm replaced on 2012 and now its rattling already....so until i can find a better alternative to the oem ones, i will just keep repairing.
  8. Bruce did you finally find the offending part. I have a strange noise coming from the front. I replced the lateral arms once already. On the first time the dealer replaced , car was like new again, but that was just 10k kms ago.
  9. Agreed to all that JFP said. I might just do both next year. 5years, 40k kms. That should be preventive enough.
  10. Boxsters, you watched them do it. How long did the whole procedure of changing both oils take, clutch oil and gear oil? Did you notice any difference in performance after the service?
  11. I too have heard there were aftermarket pads worth considering to rpoduce less dust yet maintain all other factors constant. Hawk ceramics are a popular option.
  12. This is a great diy. However, i would suggest that removing the headers is not neccessary and that this could be completed easily without doing this step. Shiuld minimizee possible problems after. Just a suggestion brothers.
  13. For info the pdk in the 997.2 has software updates that, for me solved this issue. After the update i could only say that it approaches 991 levels of smoothness even at low speeds and stop amd go traffic. No im not pulling anybodies legs i am just sharing my own experience after the update. I could only say it was the biggest upgrade to the cars performance that i have done. Check with your dealers brothers.
  14. In addition wont an intake leak produce a lean mixture on both banks and not only on one bank? This is why i am leaning more into the exhaust leak possibility, this could create the issue only for one bank. But essentially will an exhaust leak cause a lean mixture? Or in my case could a dented up header cause this lean mixture and idle vibration?
  15. Reviving this tread, has the op been able to trace the vibrate and solved this issue? i also had a vibration on my dfi engine. Dealer cleaned fuel injectors and replaced all the gaskets and orings all the way to the intake manifold. This removes the possibility of an intake leak i would think. It was mentioned here that an exhaust leak could also be at fault. My exhaust headers are a bit banged up after hitting a few road hazards. It has a few dents here and there. Mostly on bank 1 which is the one with the lean mix. Could this create the problem. Sometimes the exhaust also sounds like it has a leak but im lead to think its porsche way of immitating the air cooled exhaust sound. I hope some of our friends could chime in. How could you safely detect exhasut leaks?
  16. For everyones info yes it would fit. Most parts are the same. Modification of the air guides are what is neccessary for proper fit. The hoses, radiator mounting are all the same. My car was under warranty which prevented me from experimenting. After warranty i installed the kit and it was easy.
  17. this is in connection with the error code 8023, assuming there is a problem with the ac/recirc flap motor. the thing is held onto the ac housing with one screw. it is located on the far right side of the ac housing. has anybody successfully replaced this thing without removing the whole dash? it looks so simple to replace but according to the manual refrigerant has to be removed ac housing removed anddash removed. i said wow for replacing a motor in less than 2 minutes the prep is so much work!!!
  18. it seems with the pdk tech coming to 5 years no one has really gone into changing the clutch oils and the gear oils of the pdk. why is this? is it fear of something new? has anyone documented a real clutch oil change and gearbox oil change? in addition, i am a bit confused, my 10C2S has limited slip diff. is there a separate gear oil for this or is the oil for this part automatically renewed when gearbox oil is changed? i hope jfp is still in town and can enlighthen us on the subject.
  19. I have a 2010 997.2 C2S with pdk. My oil temperature moves up more than halfway the gauge when i am in stop and go traffic, and this is not yet the worst we have. Thinking of putting a center radiator to help in maintaining my oil temp for better engine life. Suncoast has a kit for the 997.1. Will this fit the 997.2? I understand that air ducts might be different as the bumpers for the series 1 and 2 are different. I am more concerned with the radiator hardware and accompanying mounting hardware and hoses. If they are the same then the 3rd rad of the 997.1 is mountable on the 997.2. And finally do our technical brothers recommend this mod? Really considering this option as the 2011s already have this as standard on the c2s pdk models.
  20. hi loren, i hope you might shed light on the subject. alignment on 997.2 is done with a full tank of gas and no driver? i have been thinking about it since i heard there was a rule of half tank with driver but driver is variable while a full tank of gas is fixed. please advice

  21. anybody care to share alignment specs for 997.2 carrera S. Also are there some parameters that need to be followed like all alignment should be done with tank full and without driver or should there be a driver? any assistance will greatly be apreciatted
  22. would rather have a shop specializing in wheel alignments do my alignment than go to the dealer. i dont know if many would agree with me. But does anyone have the proper alignment range that we should have on a mainly street driven car? car is a 2010 carrera s with pasm and limited slip diff. i dont think it has the lowered sport suspension. any assistance will be appreciated.
  23. apologies loren are you saying there are screws that need to be removed before removing the mirror glass? number 9 confuses me. screws to remove for the mirror motor and plastic covers, plastic pry tools to remove the mirror, is this correct?
