  1. Thanks for the reply! I forgot to specify that the car drives fine under 2500 RPMs in ALL gears. I don't know if that changes things at all. Also, a follow-up, if you know, if it is the clutch, would I likely do additional damage to other parts if I drove it around for a few days until I could get it into the shop?
  2. 1998 Boxster 73,000 miles 5-speed manual transmission Black with tan interior Yesterday I took a road trip, driving almost non-stop for approx 800 miles. When driving today I noticed that my car was not very responsive to the gas pedal. The largest problem is in 3rd gear. If I apply enough pressure to accelerate above approx 2200 RPMs then the RPMs jumps but the car does not respond. I tried punching the gas in 3rd. The RPMs jumped to the top without response from the car and there was a very bad burnt clutch type of smell. The car responds normally when kept under about 2500 RPMs. Can anyone think of what this might be beyond a transmission problem? If it is the transmission is it likely I would have to get the whole thing replaced? In case it matters, a few months ago I had a broken water pumped which was replaced. Also the red light on my temp gauge has been blinking. Any ideas or advice would be really helpful. This is my first Porsche and I am still learning the ropes! Thanks!
  3. Loren, It's really great of you to do this, looks like you've saved a lot of people! I have a U.S. 1998 Boxster, black with tan interior, manual transmission CR-210 R 3297 V 5009334 I really appreciate the help. I've been enjoying the sound of wind for the last six weeks and I am getting bored with that genre.
