  1. A lot of the 40th anniv cars were heavily discounted when new, so definitely make sure the price reflects that. My guess would be it's not a great investment, but from your original post that wasn't what you were asking necessarily. I personally like the 40th for the following: 1.) The color is beautiful in person. Personally, I'd replace the wheels, though. Or trade them for the normal Carrera II wheels. 2.) The combination of LSD and X51, which includes oiling upgrades, makes the 40th a better track car, IMO, than the typical C2. When I had a C2 I considered upgrading to the 40th when the prices started to sink on them.
  2. I don't know, "Kaboom" may be overstating it. What kind of tires do you run? I was able to see a slight drop in pressure on my C2 with MPSCs tracking out of Turn 1 at VIR *if* I didn't use the whole track on exit. I didn't see that effect with Corsas on that track. And other than some increased noise later, the engine seemed to be unaffected. If you are running slicks, it may be a bigger issue. I did notice that in Grand Am Cup they allow 996s to make mods to the oiling system, presumably because someone thought it was important at that level. But for the rest of us, I'm not sure that oil starvation is that serious an issue on the 996s. It was disconcerting when I first noticed it, but at the end of the day it wasn't a big issue.
  3. Craig, thank you! Devek ordered them for me. It's a very unnecessary, silly, thing but now that I know they exist, I want them! Only $8.50, by the way. Firoze
  4. I know, I know. It's a new (to me) car and I'm being really OCD. I plan to spend next weekend removing cosmoline. Give me a few months and I'll pull out the scissors and soldering iron. Loren, does that mean because it's a motorsport part I can't get it?
  5. Hi, I'm looking for the brake pads sensor jumper plugs referenced in an 03/03 TSB for the GT3: http://www.renntech.org/forums/index.php?a...ownloadv&id=604 The part number is 964 612 026 70 (jumper plug) I called two different dealerships and they say they can't order that part. I also called Porsche Motorsports and they reminded me they don't order parts for lowly street cars. :) So I'm wondering where can I find this part??? Thanks!
  6. Thanks, Chronos. I just realized you're local. If I get stuck, I may have to take you up on your offer to help swap out seats!
  7. Uh, ok, never mind. I realize I just answered my own question. Duh. So does anyone know what size this torx head is? So I can make sure I get an e-torx set that includes the right size.
  8. Chronos, can I ask you what type of bolts are holding the seat in? I got the plastic covers off, but I haven't seen that type of bolt before. It looks like the male end of a torx screwdriver. What type of socket did you use to remove it? Thanks.
  9. I'm looking at this item on ebay: http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAP...&category=33725 If I buy this, do I need to have the dealer activate the airbag defeat feature?
  10. My clutch pedal is squeaking again. The dealer lubed it and fixed it for 2-3 months last time, but it's not worth going there just for this. What lube can I use and where/how should I apply it? (This is an 03 996) Thanks!
  11. Cool. What sizes did you get?
  12. I just did it myself for the first time. It's really easy. The only tricky part is getting those pad sensors off without using too much force. And you might want a putty knife to help slide the pads off the noise suppressors especially in the rear.
  13. Well, I know a guy locally who has this and is very happy and it definitely not a plant. But he doesn't track the car or even do autox. I guess he does a little street drag once in a while. So it may work out fine for him, but I think I'll probably just save up for a GT3 or Turbo if/when my skills are up to that level (which they definitely aren't yet).
  14. I've thought about this, too. But I'm concerned about the transmission over time with track events. Someone pointed out that Porsche did upgrade the tranny from the 3.4 to the 3.6 presumably because the old tranny wasn't robust enough for the 3.6. And of course the Turbo and GT3 have a much more serious transmission than we have.
  15. Well, keep in mind you'll be shining a white light backwards while driving forward. I'm not sure that's legal. And, IMHO, it might look a little strange.
  16. Where can you get something like what Carlos has? It looks like it would work on a 996, right?
  17. David, I'd love to see pictures of your trailer and hitch. I'm thinking of something similar.
  18. I'm trying to remove my fairly new brake pads to replace them with the OE sport pads. So there is very little slack between the pads and the pistons as I try to slide them out. And the pads are glued on to what I guess are anti-rattle/noise discs which protrude into the hollow inside of the pistons. So I basically scraped those anti-rattle devices off the backs of one pad and removed the pad cleanly. Now before I do the other 7, I want to make sure I'm doing the right thing. And do I need to replace these devices onto the back of the new pads? If so, do I need to buy a new set of these things? What adhesive should I use to attach them? Thanks!
  19. Unfortunately, I lost the little rubber cap on the bleeder nipple for the clutch (the nipple on top of the tranny) The bleeder is tightened to spec. But the rubber cap has to be ordered from Germany! ETA is end of this month. Is it safe/OK to drive around with this off for 2-3 weeks? I guess as long as I keep the area clean, I'm OK, right? :( Anybody know of something suitable to cover this? (some other part from some other company that is the same size, maybe??)
  20. Yes, thanks, Thegman. I have the Griots engine degreaser. I guess I'll see how that works. But I need to figure out where to do this, I don't want all that gunk on my garage floor or driveway.
  21. I'm thinking of cleaning the cosmoline and other stuff off the engine on my car. I know other people here have done that. Do you worry at all about corrosion when the cosmoline is gone? Do cars delivered in Europe via truck/rail come with cosmoline?
