  1. Hey everyone,

Does anyone know how to replace the servo spring in the clutch pedal? Any diagrams?

I just had my clutch replaced, but they are saying that the pedal is still a bit stiff. They claim that it is the servo spring in the clutch that needs to be replaced. I was told that this is a rare problem, where the spring becomes faulty. $55.00 some odd dollars for the part. Very reasonable, but $188 for parts with labor (2 hours). Does anyone know how to replace this? Is it a job worth taking on ?

    THanks

    oh btw... It's a 2002 C2 Carrera.

  2. This may be a very noob question, but do I have any type of "upgraded" exhaust? I was washing my car and I noticed that the muffler was enscribed Gemballa. Though I know who Gemballa is, the reason I ask is because my exhaust sounds decently aggressive. Just a thought. Please let me know anyone!

    Thanks!

BTW. It's very nice to actually be a 911 owner now. I recently went from a Boxster to the 9-1-1. Ahem, Carrera. '02 C2. HUGE difference.

  3. When I drove my car a little hard, the clutch seemed to slip a bit. After getting into 2nd, while the clutch pedal was fully disengaged, the RPM revved up a bit and the clutch caught. The tires dont chirp in 2nd either. I normally do not drive it this hard at all, but I had to determine the clutch's status. I think I need a new clutch. Price seems very close here in Cali. $1250 for a clutch job. If the bearing job is about $600 there, i think it's best just to do all of it at once. (plus there was no record of any clutch job being done already)

  4. Sorry if this was brought up before. But I had a '98 986 before, and i was told if the clutch was getting harder and harder to press down, it meant that the life of the clutch is wearing out.

However, when I spoke with a porsche mechanic, he stated that the '02 new gen 996 have hydraulic clutches, and the pressure of the pedal doesn't necessarily increase. Instead the play area for engagement increases toward the inside of the cockpit. I sat in a 996 that recently had it's clutch done, and I'd have to say that it felt a bit lighter than mine; not a whole lot, but it was definantly lighter and smoother.

    What do you guys think?

  5. I had a 98 boxster. It was great; however, I sold it for school purposes. Now, I can't concentrate at school knowing that I rid myself of my pride an joy of being a Porsche owner. Now, I am ready to buy a 996 '02. Beautiful in all it's ways, but it has a lot of miles on it. Over 80k. But for me, the price was right; it will be my weekend getaway car (aka garage queen). Therefore, I'm okay with the high miles. As a student, I cannot afford to buy a 911 in pristine shape. I'm buying it to remind myself of my goals and ambition. Call it crazy, but I've been more focused and study a lot better than before. It may have been because I've regretted getting rid of my Boxster long ago.

Buy your 996 if it makes you happy. If I were you, I would do it because it sounds like you feel restricted. In other words, no matter how much you upgrade your boxster you won't feel complete without owning a 911.

  6. Anyone try AAMCO for replacing the clutch? Does anyone even trust them? I called them, and the guy who picked up was very salesman like. (you know, like the really nice just to make a sale type; fake personality). I didn't like it, but maybe they can give me a decent price on replacing the clutch.

Either that, or does anyone know of anyother place to get it done down here in Orange County?

I remember calling a Porsche mechanic down in Huntington Beach, but their service was really bad. I think they quoted me $2k for a clutch job.

  7. It may be possible that the regulator is in fact the problem. I just replaced my drivers' side, and I had a regulator problem in an altima. My boxster made a grinding noise whereas my old Altima stopped functioning all together. It turns out that the regulator was tangled up to the point where the motor couldn't wind any more.

    Hope this helps.

  8. Eibach COILOVER Purchase OPINIONS NEEDED

    --------------------------------------------------------------------------------

    Hey everyone.

I'm wondering if anyone has Eibach Coilovers. A guy is selling them for $780 , but I can't find anything on them. Apparently, they are discontinued, and the seller explained that Eibach merely promoted their product a bit late. Therefore, Eibach is simply trying to rid of them. He claims that they are comparable to the H&R coilovers, "maybe a bit better."

What do you guys suggest? Everyone I know has never heard of Eibach making coilovers (for reasons mentioned above). I trust the seller, but I just wanted to get a second opinion.

In all honesty, my box is a daily driver, and my shocks are going/gone. I figured instead of getting some Blisten HD's for about $600+, might as well get these and get some handling improvement. Also, I understand that coilovers don't need spring compressors for the install; (i.e. easier install)

here's a link to some pictures (unless he posted some already in our classified)

  9. I am pretty proficient in the Computer side of things ...

I'm too!.. I did a good amount of reading on mp3 faq's page, and they have a lot of good information. I wanted to go the Mac route also, but I'm not used to using Macs, not to mention your point about limited GPS software. As far as displaying the TOM TOM on the touchscreen, that is a good idea. However, I did some research, and I didn't see anything about TOMTOM for PC. I only saw it for the pockePCs. And I didn't see any relevant information on video outputs.

Here are some links from the mp3 sites. These guys did some work on their boxsters.

I'm sure you already visited these sites, but I posted them anyways.

  10. I also have a 98. Now, I don't know if my oil separator is going bad, but I'm sure it is. Signs included white smoke for every start up, idle problems, common maf sensor codes, misfire.. etc.

If my problem is due to an oil separator, then Yes I would say get that fixed first because the idle is so off, that the engine may stall at any given time. I would say it makes "sense" to replace it ASAYGTC. (As soon as you get the chance).
