I took my 2011 Carrera S to its first driver's ed event yesterday. It performed flawlessly except for what I fear was a high oil temperature. By end end of each run the oil temperature was 240 to 245. Water temperature was fine at 175. The outside temperature was in the high 50s. In my old 1972 911T, an oil temperature of 240 was cause for concern and risked engine damage. Can anyone tell me if this temperature is too high for this engine and synthetic oil and whether I need to have it checked out. Thanks. Robin
Thanks for the suggestions. I went with the blue painter's tape. It worked well, even on my blue car. It was cheap and easy to take off.
I am taking my 2011 Carrera S to its first driver ed event in a couple weeks. I am looking for an inexpensive way to put on temporary numbers. I can't use white shoe polish which I used years ago. I've had poor luck with magnetic numbers (blew off)and since I don't have a permanent number I don't want to buy vinyl numbers for just one event. Can I use racers tape? Masking tape? Is there any problem with paid damage using racers tape? Any help would be appreciated.
I've got a 4 page Porsche document I could e-mail to you. Basically, Some options will be made standard and a third radiator on PDK cars. I will be ordering a 2011 911 C2S in the next week or so and am looking for advice on the sport suspension and limited slip differential options. I will be getting the Sport Chrono option and I am seriously considering adding the sport suspension option. This will be a daily driver but I will track it one or two times a year. I tracked my previous Porsche and had made a number of suspension modifications to improve the track experience. However, I am concerned that the sport suspension in normal mode will be too harsh for daily use. Does anyone have an opinion on how hard the ride is on the normal setting for the C2S standard suspension compared to the sport suspension? Also, I am not sure whether to get the limited slip differential. It seems like its a bit more that I would need since I plan to track it only 1 or 2 days a year. Any advice here? Thanks.
My dealer did call back and said that the differences are minor. He mentioned some switches that were different. He couldn't refer me to a fact sheet that was more specific. He did say that the 998 (which I have seen referred to as a 2011 model) will actually be a 2013 model year car. For what this is worth.
I just tried to order a 2010 Carrera 2S and was told that all the 2010 output has been sold. So I am looking at 2011 which I am told can be ordered for delivery in a couple of months. The dealer says he will have firm pricing next week. However, I can't find out much on the differences between the two model years. I can find internet references to a 998 model but that seems to be a year off at least. Can anyone shed some light on the differences between '10 and '11? Thanks.
