  1. Thanks Maurice Thats involved. You think I need to do all that to replace a wheel? I need to dig that deep in steering colum? I need to get some info on air bag and not using it. I also want it fit without gaps in colum and use maintain all stock levers. I am sure there is a set up. Thanks again
  2. Pursuing steering wheel change on 01 996 turbo If I get a "sport" wheel that dosent have air bag am i asking for problems? Can I remove stock and run car with wheel minus air bag? Is there a DIY on how to install/remove anywhere (havent seen one) some specifics: this is a cosmentic and pratical change for me. I am 6'3" and dont fit in car real well, I want a wheel that is flat on bottom so my knees have more clearence and I like the look. I would like a wheel that is thicker, dont know what stock thickness is and having issue deciphering what "CM" measurements relates to on adds for wheels. It this the thickness or wheel circumference? Lots of issues here. thanks for help
  3. ]My passenger seat has a wierd vibration when car is idling? My wife notices it at stops. Car is tuned, idleing fine, running fresh. Wondering if it is a mount on the Trans-engine or seat. When I increase idle at stop the vibration diminishes and then returns. Perhaps picky but dosent seem correct for this car. 996 TT 2001 23k miles. Any suggestions? Thanks.[/font]
  4. Turned out to be MAF, and I think I might have been quoted the highest price ever on a Factory part from local dealer- $601!! Of course found it elsewhere for less than half with overnight shipping.
  5. Thank you. I read the DYI and forgot to check it again. You wrote it, I used it to determine I needed a new one and clear the codes that have been flashing. Thanks again.
  6. Is anyone available to confirm a part numbers? I am sure it is on forum somewhere but no luck discovering 2001 996 Turbo MAF number I HAVE 996-606-124-00 sound correct? thanks
  7. Thanks Loren You mentioned this option to come by a while back and I think we both had some things going on that prevented us getting together. Thank you again for offer. The shop couldnt clear the code with their PSTS and other with no success and I have passed on a couple of suggestions from the group here. I will keep you updated.
  8. Left this post a while ago and just now taken 01 996 TT in to to have code cleared as i could not do it with durametric. Shop just told me they cant clear code (which is a factory code) either and needs to diagnose electrical etc to figure out what is up. I am getting in deep with these guys I can feel it, and they are reputable and have treated me fair in the past. They can clear with factory PWI or PSW whatever name is that was pointed out to me on forum and cant be cleared with durametric most current version. I passed on the suggestions of particular fuses that might be open or bad, ask them to check Votage and or working of MAF (which the mentioned would through a check engine light singnal, not code- not sure if that is correct) and to see if one or more ABS sensor is bad in car. Any suggestions, my shop sounds hesitant. Not sure if they have experienced this problem and are stunned they couldnt clear code on 5th try. I obviously dont want to replace something drive related at that expense if it is something that can be addressed with a experienced soulution Any help would be appreciated and my shop is open to suggestions. Thank you Steve.
  9. Can anyone tell me weght of stock fly wheel on a 01 996 turbo? Getting prepared to change clutch on car and considering light weight fly wheel. Have been told you might get vibration in gear shift? Possibly? The fly wheel i am considering is 16lbs. Does anyone have a lighten fly wheel and think it is a good or bad upgrade? My car has mods for HP, computer flash, exhaust, DV's, boost hose. Stock turbo's. Produces 500HP currently. thanks Steve.
  10. thank you loren, i live in pleasant hill, East Bay. The issue is regarding clearing is that the problem isnt gone according to durametric. It wont clear because what ever is going on is still a issue, eventhough nothing has happened to car and as you mentioned it is proably because car slipped or spun wheels, still a mystery why is happened after sitting for 2 weeks. I would come up on sunday if you dont thinking driving with this code is a issue. let me know if your available as i truly appreciate your help and would love for you to see my car and let me know what you think of it. thank you again.
  11. Man, i am not loving the durametric. I want to erase the code that i orignally posted and Durametric seems lost to help me when i call for assistance. I dont think anything is wrong with car, i think it slipped on some card board in my garage when i parked it and i let it sit for two weeks, started it and the code appeared. I am considering clearing the code by removing the neg battery cable, driving car and then seeing what happens. I have downloaded both 5.0- and 6.0 to my laptop, not sure how to choose on or the other when running diagnostic but I CANT GET THIS CODE OFF!! read about brake light being open or closed? not sure what any of that means or how it applys to this issue but willing to try anything at this point rather than take to Dealer and pay. for those who responded thankyou, i dont think i am savy enought to interpert advice.
  12. Would i check the brake light switch throught the durametric? Can you tell me where to find it on the durametric? thanks.
  13. Turns out I have installed 5 . When i try and delete I am using "delete file" and code remains on screen and car. anything you know i need to do before erasing to insure code clears? thank you so far for all your help.
  14. if i disconnect negative battery will it clear code on my car?
  15. Can you tell me how i would go back to 5.0? I just recieved this durametric, can i change actuall unit or do i need to buy another?
  16. I dont know what Durametric i am using, just arrived today it is enthusiast version as suggested on a earlier post. I cant clear code, dont know why perhaps i am not doing it correctly. should i disconnect negative battery terminal? i have radio code. any thoughts on still testing MAF as someone mentioned earlier? I now have code, eventhough i dont know what to do with it. I dont think ECU flash is issue, it would have shown prior to this and car seems to be running/idiling fine. I havent gone on road since code appeared as i thought it meant brakes werent going to work. any thoughts on how to remove code? I want to drive after code is removed to see if Loren's insight is correct.
  17. One more thing, what is DME stand for? I am sure it equals $$$$ regardless.
  18. the code appeared ABS/PSM came up on dash this weekend after starting car that had sat for 2 weeks. i havent spun wheels or abused car outside of limits. I am attempting to check the MAF with a volt meter as suggested from earlier post. I did however flash ECU several months ago, no issues except complete joy on how car runs and performs with ecu. Please tell me i didnt destroy something in the ECU????? I cant clear the code! i tried it with durametric but i didnt respond, will try again. any other ideas? i am concerned. this car has no stored fault codes, 22k miles and is serviced and maintained better than my wife. Please let me know any and all thoughts.
  19. Is there a string or tab in Renntech that provides info on codes that come up from durametric? my abs/psm light came on, i just recieved my durametric and code 5525 "incorrect data transfer" is showing on lap top. Not sure how to interpert code. thank you
  20. Roger, forgot to ask if you have used these guys before and for what if you dont mind sharing. thanks again.
  21. Started car this morning after it sat for 10 days. Started fine but ABS-PSM not working came up on dash. New to this car and codes. First code that has come flashed since ownership and not sure why. Car started fine, flashed low on on fuel and last time i drove i had no incidents or issues. anyone know why this would happen out of blue at start up? I have a durametric on order but again, dont know why this would flash out of the blue. any thoughts, anyone?
  22. Awesome, thanks. I live in Concord!!! You have used them before? anyone in the service department you suggest?
  23. thank you both for your imput. I have just ordered a durametric and when it gets here i will run through it. I did read posts regarding function and if it is dislodged is it hurting motor or making a odd noise. seems simple enough to remove and replace, i think mine might be broken and dont want to hurt motor if i continue to drive. thank you again.
