  1. I cannot believe I was so stupid and turned the bolt the wrong way when doing an oil change. It was the oil drain plug on the engine and now I cannot tighten to the correct torque without it just spinning. It seems to be just about tight enough not to leak but I guess this will show now in the next few weeks, what options do I have? As im not happy to leave it like this.
  2. Thanks, Also do you know if it makes a difference with the oil filter as one end has writing (part number) does this end need to go towards the engine, it looks the same both ends?
  3. 996 Turbo 2001, I have had my air filter of for a while and can not remember which way to re-insert the new filter is it smooth side towards engine or facing back?
  4. Hello Everybody, It’s been a while since I’ve been on here hope you are all well. My 996 turbo 2001 is giving a error on dashboard of spoiler failure this only seems to happen when the spoiler goes up at over 70mph, when putting the spoiler up by itself it doesn’t give the error, seems to be lifting okay even though the error appears. Any suggestions?
  5. Richard you are correct... you can not buy just the rod.
  6. Thanks guys this is great info, I am hoping I will be lucky as the rod has snapped in the middle so I can see the theads.
  7. It was porsche servicing department in cambridge that told me, "just rod is £60" Hmm will double check with them 2morro
  8. How do I change my aircon condenser on 996tt 2001. Any pictured or DIY info would be great. Regards, Greg.
  9. Hi My 996tt 2001 has a rusted and snapped actuator rod, its the rear passenger side. If I buy the rod from porsche its £60, is it easy to fit myself and does anybody have any info. It seems easy enough to set as its snapped in the middle so I should be able to set each end. Any advice or DIY info would be great. Regards, Greg.
  10. never did get this problem looked at but I have since had a bit of a bump on the passenger side now need two new alloys, but the good news is my mirror has since started to work again.
  11. Hi my 996tt 2001 80,000 on the clock had a aircon re-charge as it was no longer blowing cold, and it only lasted for a week. Is there a normal leak problem with a car this age? Where can I start to check? Thanks!!
  12. I bought my 996 turbo 2001 5 years ago and I still remember when I would drive the car I would get out shaking, It just gripped and gripped around the bends the car had pirelli asimetrico tyres and I still put the same tyres on now but it just does'nt feel the same maybe im just use to the car, Anyway I would like to know what tyres do you guys use and what is better then my asimetrico's
  13. Thanks that clears thing up perfectly.
  14. Does it make the car run better? the standard porsche plugs have the bit that sparks and 2 bits of metal around it, these iridium have such a tiny electrode and a small bit of metal, denso plugs claim to make the car run much better but wouldnt porsche change to thses if they were that good?
  15. Are Iridium spark plugs worth changing to?
  16. It Turned out to be strut mount and bushes, thanks for the help. Regards, Greg
  17. What are the correct torque setting for the turbo drain plugs on a 996TT 2001, can not find on site but I have read it before and serching shows 0 results. Regards, Greg.
  18. Sorry should have explained in more detail, I didn’t bother to check anything because my discs were so worn I thought the problem was that, but since discs have been changed its still the same, I will try the bushes..
  19. Im sure my rotors are not the problem as they are brand new from porsche, and when I brake the brake pedal is fine I dont feel anything only the streering shakes. This was happening before I had the brakes changed I thought that this would fix the problem, could it be the wheel is buckled or needs balancing it seems to be coming from front passenger side.
  20. Can somebody tell me why on my 996TT 2001 the steering shakes when I apply the brakes? If im driving over 50mph and brake it feels like the wheels are about to shake off, it can not be the brake disks as if just had them changed. Please help :(
  21. Your issue seems the same as mine because my windows were also opening a little then after a pause they opened fully. I checked the alarm unit under the seat as Richard said, it seems to have been the antenna wire as since firmly reconnecting ive not had any problems. Seems that the simplest of problems cause havoc, Thanks Richard you’re defiantly on my Christmas card list!!
  22. Hello Everybody, I donated to this site today for the first time, I did so because Of all the money ive saved compared to getting my problems fixed in a garage. I should have donated when I first got the help I needed, anyway I did so now and will keep doing as this site has saved me a estimated £7000 yes that’s UK sterling, Thanks Loren and guys for all your help.
  23. I removed the passenger seat and checked the black unit under the seat, all dry but there was a loose/disconnected wire it was a thin black wire with an Ariel connection on the end. Could this wire have been causing all my problems? Does anybody know what this wire does I thought it maybe the ariel for key remote to unlock car but car still unlocked with wire diconnected. Regards, Greg.
