Recently i noticed my 2002 turbo was condensating inside quite badly and upon closer inspection i found that there was water not on the rear seat but underneath the seat pad.......its bizarre theres no water on the side walls, occassionally a small amount on the floor carpet but i think that may be where its run off. The door membrane was replaced last year and the sunroof drains run clear out the rear. Ive covered the sunroof with plastic and it still occurred, the roof lining is not wet either......its almost like its coming up from below???Ive found tonnes of posts on this issue but none seem to have a resolution so once I get into the car can anyone save me another trip to the garage PLEASE??!! :-)It must be a fairly common issue and come from one particular common area, someone mentioned a blocked ac condensate drain but it seems too high must be water ingress from somewhere.....took the rear speaker out but all felt dry behind there and theres a fair bit of foam.Any ideas from the fonts of knowledge?!

    1/4 light leaking perhaps??

  2. My 996 turbo with 60K miles is stuttering under medium to full load starting from approx. 2800 RPM and also from time to time misfire noises from exhaust. Under slight load no stutter or not noticeable I got access to a PIWIS tester and no error codes at DME read out. In my opinion it is ignition related and I suspect the coil packs. Any other ideas or aeras to check? Could it be the MAF of O2 sensors?

    Are you sure your using a PIWIS or do you generically mean an OBD2 code reader???

    A boost hose will show its self in no power, and a rather loud wooshing noise form under the engine. It will idle erratically and lambda will be trying to correct the fueling like a druggie looks for his next fix.?? You may even get an ABS/PSM failure as maf goes out of tolerance. as asked are you actually using a Porsche System tester ( PIWIS).

  3. The Special Function-Carb(ISO) function is the equivalent of OBD2 but only for cars using the ISO versions of OBD2. It will work on most cars that use K-Line for communication and will not work on any domestic cars nor will it work on any CAN-Bus(2005 and newer). It will not work on any Porsche race cars like Cup, RSR etc... You need to use a Bosch MODAS for this. Also with MODAS you need to have the specific Porsche configuration files for the car, these files come from Porsche Motorsports. On more thing, the Pectel ECU is not supported by any of these systems. Do diagnose this you will need software and probably interface cable from the manufacturer.

  4. The PST2 not only is capable of interrogating Porsche DME's but also has a section within the operating system to read out and do certain functions on non Porsche Cars.

    The module is

    Special Functions-Carb(ISO)

    I'm hoping some one on here might have some experience of using the the non Porsche special functions system test.

    I'm especially interested in the Pectel P6 2000 and whether it could read the functions and error codes for that ECU.

    if US dealerships are like the UK ones they wont want to hand out the IPAS codes to you. however they have a legal obligation to if you show proof of purchase.

    My OPC still refused so I wrote a letter to Porsche UK explaining the problem, they phoned my OPC and next time I went down I was given all my IPAS codes.

    you have an obligation to keep the codes safe.

    Take no crap off them, insist and get Porsche US to help.

    I double checked with management to see if Porsche had been lightening up on their policy but I got the same answer. If dealerships are providing the codes they are going against Porsche policies which compromises the theft detterent systems and could result in large fines from Porsche. Sorry we are not able to help with getting the codes for you.

    I just sent an inquiry to PCNA and will wait for their response.

    that's their standard answer, because once you have the codes you can do so much more with your car potentially doing them out of a cheap source of cash.

    If the US has similar laws to us then they are breaching anti competitive legislation. By not releasing the codes to an authorised person or private workshop they are denying them the right to work on your car. They are your codes and are only applicable to your car and no other. you must insist. I got Porsche UK on side who told Porsche Glasgow to release the codes.......all of them.

    I have a PST2 and demanded the right to work on my own car. and I got the codes in the end. not first time of asking but I still got them.

    Passenger compartment monitoring sensor, short circuit to B+ or faulty

    Possible cause of fault

    - Short circuit to voltage in the wiring between the alarm system control module and the passenger compartment monitoring sensor

    Flunked step 1. Read .16 volts between 1&4 instead of battery voltage. "Replace wiring harness." I think I'll do a little more investigating before tackling that.

    Fault code 60

    Central locking limit position - locked not reached

    Possible cause of fault

    - Switch for central locking faulty

    - Short circuit to ground/open circuit in the wiring between the alarm system control module, switch for central locking or door locks

    - Driver’s/passenger’s door lock faulty

    - Control module faulty

    I'm trying to "select" central alarm button in the list of inputs. I'm thinking that it will go to the next page when I hit F12, but it doesn't do anything. Where is the status of the input shown?

    Code 46 also came back and I have the same issue - I'm trying to figure out how to read the status of the "door locked" inputs. The words in the list say "Driver's Door Locked", etc. When I

    push the front lid release button, the lid releases, but nothing on the screen changes.

    I'm thinking that there might be a "select" button on the keyboard?

    IBM Thinkpad Version of the Porsche System Tester 2

    Key Designation Description of function

    F12 function key >> "Continue" key This is used to close the current screen and move to the next screen.

    F11 function key << "Continue" key This is used to close the current screen and move to the previous screen.

    F10 function key "Jump" key Used to jump to the selection menu for the control unit-specific functions.

    PgDn key "Page down" key Used to page forwards.

    PgUp key "Page up" key Used to page back.

    Cursor keys "Cursor" keys

    These keys move the cursor left/right or up/down for selection of menu items or

    selection of individual elements from lists.

    Space Bar "Space" Bar This can be use to select individual elements when viewing Actual Values.

    on the application, program or program step and is displayed in the lower

    ("softkey") bar.

    Note:

    If "F1" is pressed in the start-up screen, this displays Operating Instructions for the Porsche System Tester 2. This is possible

    only in the start-up screen. If "F1' is pressed in other display screens, the operator receives context-sensitive help pertaining

    to the displayed screen. This function can be called only if the '?' symbol appears in the softkey. Read the operating

    instructions and safety information before proceeding. Also take time to view the demonstration by pressing F3 at the

    opening menu.

    Battery Indicator:

    This is the left hand LED on the left hand screen hinge, and displays as follows:

    Orange: Charging

    Green: Enough battery power for operation

    Flashing Orange: Battery needs to be charged (accompanied by a double-beep)

    Screensaver & System Standby:

    The screensaver comes into effect after about 10 minutes of inactivity. Press the space bar to restore the display. If no keys

    are pressed after approximately 15 minutes of battery operation, the computer will go into suspend mode to conserve battery

    power. The right hand LED on the hinge will illuminate green. To wake the computer, press and hold the blue "Fn" key and

    press "F12". Operation time on batteries will vary with system demands, and for long periods of use it is best to use the

    mains adapter or a cigar lighter adapter.

  10. Loren: I definitely will get the battery checked out. But, because I have problems with communicating with durametric, itmay take a day or a week to read and clear codes. I have found a PST2 to rent before buying. Does the PST2 have the ability to do any logging? Does it have any data outputs? The one I'm looking at isn't a Bosch convert,. It is a small laptop with PCMCIA controller card and the cable to connect it to the OBD port.

    Mike, I have the IBM lap top version with KTS520 interface ( same PC as is used in the OPC PST2) of PST2 its the full works and it does data log within its self but does not really support sending that info anywhere. The problem is that PST2 uses the 1998 ota IBM computer which is totally incompatible with modern working systems. Even the output plugs/leads are a miss match. It does not support USB either which makes things very difficult.

    Thanks, Sunny for that info. How big of a hard drive (floppy disc?) does it have? Does it show just a spreadsheet-looking log or is it graphical? How many variables at a time? What's the fastest it can scan? It sure would be nice if some electronic design engineer worked up some interface to enable outputting. I just looked back and saw that you called it and ota IBM computer. I'll have to check and see what kind of documentation is available.

    Hi Mike,

    i couldn't tell you any more about data storage of the PST2 Laptop as I dont data log with it. I use it for fault finding, coding and other stuff that requires the use of a PST2. For logging, I use my Durametric which is in a totally different league and the only way to data log IMHO.

  12. Yes, Low oil level could cause a problem, but more likely Transmission over temperature will be the cause. If lower than normal oil level then even less cooling.

    you really do need a Durametric or PST2 to read any codes.

    Transmission Slip.....understandable

    Low voltage:?????? poor connector to from tCU to Gear Box, normally gets all the road dirt and moisture??

I did actually replaced the MAF with the 124 oem one, and it does drive much better; however I have not cured the other problems of the cruise control not working at all, no lights no engagement nothing, and also the PSM/ABS Light that comes on after driving for awhile. Not sure what to do for either of these, any suggestions would be helpful thanks!

    First of all get your self a Durametric . the hand held OBD2 readers are very very limited. With a Durametric you can just about do everything the OPC can do except code new modules and Keys.

    Disconnecting the Maf and driving is an excellent way of checking your MAF. There will be a code associated with the PSM/ABS light.One of the overlooked and common faults is Steering alignment sensor re-calibration. you must do this after any suspension work or geo work. you will get the ABS/PSM light on and the relevant fault code. It is a pain in the *** , but when you get that light up its the only way the DME has of telling you there is a problem with some aspect of the cars well being and can have nothing to do with the MAF its self.

    Remember, cruise control, speed conversions. ABS, PSM, traction control, Tiptronic functions all use multiple sensors such as Steering angle, wheel speed, rotational direction and velocity etc. so an ABS/PSM light can indicated you have an associated fault in any one of those areas that is not significant enough to put the DME into limp home mode.

    Just had TCU reset (Using PIWIS, Tiptronic>Reset Adapater Values), still had the grinding sound, but less and shorter in duration. I did carry out the test drive and 10-min idling instruction as above. I don't know if it's the test drive that wasn't aggressive enough or maybe the torque converter itself needs some sort of servicing. I've read a bit and understood somewhat about how torque converter and the lock-up clutch work; is there a serviceable part in the converter that require regular maintenance? I believe the grinding sound I'm describing is from the lockup clutch at the moment of contact?

    This is just a bit annoying but otherwise fine without causing me additional problem.

    I reset mine not long ago and it hasn't come back, however the weather here has been truly awful so didn't get out for that long. Mind you, mine only did it when in too high a gear on a slope, drop down a cog before the auto shift down and it didn't make any noise under load.

    In my extract from the Tech Manual, it does say replace the TCU for a later unit. Do you know if your TCU falls in the category of being the older type. Perhaps the change over has not been done and you still have the troublesome unit??

    Just a thought.
