  1. If the date on the DVD is 04/2005 then you are ok to update the PCM2.1 to version 3.0 (model level B ) and will not need to purchase a new navigation DVD. If you want to update your Nav DVD that will be optional. Actually I am surprised that the 04/2005 DVD is working properly with the version 1.0 software. M.
  2. That PCM can be upgraded to 3.0. Does you Nav work at all? Please can you eject the DVD and read off the date on the front?
  3. Your dealer is full of it :) They are probably confused about PCM 3.0, rather than software release B (3.0) for PCM 2.1. Update level B (3.0) is a pre-req for the recent map updates. If you are currently on version 1.0 you are on the PCM revision "standard production status". If your Boxster was built in 01/05 it is capable of version 3.0 PCM software. By the way if you update from 1.0 to 3.0 then your current Nav DVD will stop working and you'll need a map DVD from at least 04/2005. I suggest you go and have another talk to your dealer :) They should have a read of technical service bulletin (TSB) 9110 - PCM2.1 Navigation Update, which describes the update process. If you are a contributing member on here you can view it yourself. Print it off and show them :) PS - there are plenty of recent Nav DVDs on Ebay - far cheaper than from your dealer.
  4. For some reason mine does not say the firmware on the ipod either. I seem to recall reading somewere that this changed with one of the recent firmwares.. don't know why. With mine to select Ipod GW, Aux, etc I: - press CD (ipod will start playing) - press audio button at bottom of PCM (you won't get text on the main PCM screen) <- you are in the audio menu? - press and hold "6" to select the source - On right hand side of screen you have CD list and track list - Select track list and push right knob - depending on ver of firmware, you'll either - see Ipod GW, select it by with the right knob and press right knob - see source, etc etc etc - select source, then hold FF for a few seconds, then do ipod gw step above - You should now be good to go If you are in the "audio" menu, you must have CD list and track list down the right side of the PCM, and there should be textin those menus. If there is not, or you don't have CD list or track list, then this looks to be like a PCM version issue. If the above doesn't work then I'd suggest that you raise a support ticket with dension re the PCM version. They are usually pretty quick to reply. At least then we know with route to persue with troubleshooting. http://support.dension.com/support-center/index.php M.
  5. Strange. I have have nothing in target, only actual. I notice that your PCM says version 2.1. This is an old software version so there could be an incompatability with the Dension? You should be able to get the PCM up to version 3.0 (the dealer will have to do this for you). I think you must have everything in the right order because it is all listed there. If you have upgraded your Dension try rebooting it (pull power out and plug back in). Go into the config mode and check the the options are correct for the PCM. I can't remember off the top of my head but the recommended options for PCM are listed in the install guide. Are the DIP switches on the Dension in the right place (you did change them)? Also when you are on CD 6, use the right knob on the PCM and select track list. Let us know what you see in there - you should see IPod GW. Is music actually playing from the IPod at the moment, just that you don't get the track names (just checking!!) :)
  6. This caught me out too... I couldn't get it to select IPod GW rather than UI. Select disk 6 (change source), change the track until IPod GW displayed, now press and hold the fast forward for a few seconds. It will change the source to IPod GW and you'll get all the track info on the PCM. Ipod UI is if you have the ipod in the car with you. As for cable length - I think K-Man on the cayman club needed an extender - see the links above. If I remember right, mine changes the track when you select the next page. Also if you select an album or artist, wait for 30s and it will go auto to another selection and then you will be able to forward through tracks like usual. If you try and do this straight away you will just end up moving through the album/artist. Hope that makes sense!
  7. Hi, The changer lead has three wires, you are interested in the red/green one (+ve) and the brown one (-ve). You can solder in line or take a tap, I chose to take a tap and I think Berty did the same. Also take a look here http://www.caymanclub.net/reviews/showprod...t=103&cat=5 There are two big grommets that you can use. One is in the trunk and gets you through to the battery area, I believe there are two, one on either side. They are really big - you will have no problem finding them. There is another one that goes from the battery area to the passenger area - it is a big grommet just behind the battery. If you get down into the footwell and reach up towards the top you can see it (it at the top of the right hand side footwell on my RHD car). I am about to route the BTA1500 microphone cable myself so this is from memory so far! I just leave the ipod in the trunk - if you have PCM you get all the info you need on the screen. I'd do the same for a USB drive unless you'll be swapping it out all the time. Also look at http://www.caymanclub.net/reviews/showprod...t=202&cat=5 http://www.caymanclub.net/reviews/showprod...ct=99&cat=5 Don't forget - if you have a CD changer then the install is pretty much plug and play, and you use both FOT ports. If you don't have a CD changer then you only use one of the FOT ports and you must install the Dension into the loop in series with everything else. Instructions on how to do this are included with the unit if you are unsure. The order is Head Unit -> Amp -> Dension/Changer -> Navigation -> Back to Head Unit. Good luck Matt.
  8. Hi, Just an update on this... I never figured out how to get the PCM to play MP3s. It would read the disk and say "single cd: checking cd data" and then do no more. So it sees it as a data CD but would not go any further. I also tried a software upgrade from 3.0 to 3.3 using the single CD repair kit, but the same thing happens. In either case I do not get an error/unreadable message. This is less of an issue now as I have installed a Dension GW 500 for mp3 playback, but it would still be nice to figure out what is going on with the PCM. I suspect that it is because it is a PCM retrofit and I need to take the car to a dealer to have it coded correctly for the car using the PIWIS machine. Matt.
  9. Thanks Berty, you sure know a lot about PCM :) Matt.
  10. Hi, I have a PCM unit 997 642 143 02 from "date of manufacture 38/05". Please can someone confirm if this unit will play mp3s, or if that functionality arrived in 997 642 143 03? 997 642 143 02 is a level B unit so should be mp3 capable? Does date of manufacture refer to production week or calender week, i.e. is week 38 calendar month ~April or August? IIRC mp3 support arrived after March 2005? The software versions on the PCM are: Version 3.0 System: 04514BD1/5104 PCM: 05024AD1/0205 I've done lots of searches, but just want to check that the hardware does actually support MP3 before I launch my CD burner out of the window! :) Many thanks, Matt
  11. You might want to take a look at the Dension Gateway 500, and play MP3s through your ipod or a usb stick. Matt.
  12. Hi, I read my fault codes out with Durametric today - should I be worried? Please can anyone help me figure out what they mean - especially the German PAS codes! PAS 8004 Versorgungsspannung Klemme 50 (SC+) 8050 Electronic steering column lock internal fault Airbag C152 Meldung timeout PSM Steuergeraet Veh Elec Sys Current Fault Codes 8035 Passenger's front airbag stage 1 below lower limit 8036 Passenger's front airbag stage 2 below lower limit Thanks Matt.
  13. Hi all, I have a PCM unit part # 997 642 143 02. Please can you confirm which Navigation DVD drive I need for this part? I have been offered 997 642 157 01, will this work ok, or are the two units incompatible, as one is model B and one model C? Should I continue my search for 997 642 137 02? Many thanks Matt.
