  1. While researching another problem with my Boxster, I noticed a company is advertising an oil fed intermediate shaft bearing kit, which seems to use a modified cover and a hose to feed oil to the intermediate shaft bearing.. the kit is here.. http://tunersmotorsports.com/?page_id=103 Has anyone installed it or know if it is any good? My old 986 Boxster had an upgraded IMS bearing installed when I bought the car, and I thought it was a worthwhile thing to do.. But was told the 987 needed an engine teardown to replace the bearing.. This kit seems to just feed engine oil into the bearing, which from what I have read would solve the problems with failure.. But really.. should this kit do the trick?
  2. Fighting some similar issues myself at the moment, in particular coding up a rear body control unit that lives under the left hand seat which was killed by water.. Seems to be coded, but clamshell not closing 100%... Someone here mentioned an alarm control unit being under the left seat?? I thought they moved it somewhere else and put the rear control unit there instead... I am not correcting anyone, but am wondering if this is a souce of some of the communications issues I am facing and if the alarm control unit is somehow blocking the rear control unit from communicating properly?? Everyone always looks to the roof for sources of leaks, but could it be the front luggage area is filling up with water which is then flooding upto the level of a gromet or hole in the bulkhead, such as where the main battery live unit connects to power distribution box under the dash perhaps? Might be worth hosing the battery area with the covers off and seeing if it drains properly or if it just fills up!
  3. I had the same problem, rear lights on, spoiler not working, roof not working, mine even started moving the roof by itself while I was trying to remove the left hand seat to get at the unit. I bought a new rear control unit from Porsche and coded it up with a durametric which I bought for just this kind of eventuality.. and everything seems cured.. However I still have a problem of the clamshell on the roof not closing the last couple of inches when the roof is up, even though it closes 100% down when the roof is down.. Nothing seems bent, the transmissions for the roof are running until they hit their microswitches, and the whole thing seems perfect apart from this clamshell issue. So I have asked the question in another post of what could have caused my problem... It could be that I missed something on the coding, or there is something the Durametric can't do in the coding... So I would say you could replace the rear control unit yourself and then get a friendly Porsche enthusiast with a Durametric near you to code the unit.. However, I would hold fire on that until I know if the Durametric really can do it and allow you to have a fully functioning (and closing) roof clamshell!
  4. I committed the fatal sin with my Boxster and did not clean out the drains since this time last year and was punished by the drains clogging up and flooding the interior of the car. The result was a very wet body control unit, all the rear lights illuminated and once I got into the car it decided to start moving the roof on its own and broke the plastic ball ends off two of the roof (soft top) arms on the roof transmissions.... So, as I have a durametric, I decided to buy a new body control unit, and coded it up as best as I can and replaced both the arms with the plastic ball ends. Everything seems to be fine and working great, except for one, minor and confusing feature.. The clam shell at the back of the roof comes down properly when you put the roof down, but does not come down completely when you put the roof up! I have tried adjusting everything which can be adjusted, I have spent days going through the forums searching for a similar problem, and I have even taken the roof transmissions off and inspected them and figured out how they work. The transmissions run until they hit the two microswitches inside the transmissions, which also seem to be working properly Nothing seems bent, other than the ends of the rods going to the clamshell, which seem to be bent from the factory. On my old boxster (986) I once had a problem getting the roof to work properly and noticed on that on that car when the roof was all the way forward, a microswitch above the door pillar would be made and then the roof seemed to run for a couple more seconds to finish closing things and put everything under tension, on this 987 the motors stop the instant they hit the microswitches in the transmissions,,, Is this right? The other odd thing, the durametric seems to be able to code the rear control unit, and I can change coding and see the effects, but if I try to read or clear fault codes in the rear unit it just sits there forever trying to connect... Is this normal, or an indication of a seperate or connected fault? Occasionally the Gateway and other systems are reporting being unable to communicate with the rear control unit also... Which is odd.. How can I be coding it via its communication system, but not able to talk to it for fault codes? Anyway, I would have put up two problems here seperately (Clamshell not closing and communication errors) but thought it might be best to give you guys the full picture! ... HELP!!!
  5. I have a 2006 Cayenne V6 that is sending me crazy! I recently started the Cayenne and immediately the dashboard warned of an ABS fault, then the ABS light came on, followed by the dashboard complaining of an air suspension fault, which then went away.. Plugged my Durametric into the car and returned a fault code of 1435 under ABS which is a "Brake pressure switch" fault... So I went through the troubleshooting proceedure, tested the wiring etc, everything checked out as ok. So I changed the pressure switch and bled the brakes. (air suspension complains that 1316 - "read out ABS/PSM fault memory" which I guess is the fact that the ABS has the 1435 fault code!) Started the engine, same sequence of faults, same faults, try to clear the fault codes and they come right back immediately... I have searched the archives, searched google, re-read the manuals a million times and am now at a loss and really do not want to be beaten by this one! Please HELP!
