  1. JFP - you nailed it! I was skeptical but followed your suggestion. The front engine mount was trashed. Replaced it and the clunk is gone. It runs a lot smoother and quiet in all gears and speeds now. Thanks man! One heck of a lot easier and cheaper than a new DMF!
  2. JFP- I already thoroughly cleaned, inspected, relubed, and re-booted the CV's. All four were in perfect shape. I flushed all the grease using a parts wash tank pump with solvent into a fine white cloth and saw no metal shavings or rough spots. I replaced the inners anyway. Will reexamine the front engine mounts. Thank you.

  4. I have the same issue on my 2001 986, 88k miles. Did the clutch at about 78k. DMF was checked and met the inspection spec. It seems to be only in first and second when letting the clutch out fast. Checked CV joints, they were good but changed them anyway and it did not go away. Power bled the clutch three times, still there. Checked trans and engine mounts, seem to be solid. As long as I baby the clutch there is no bump. If I drive it like I stole it, bumps or clunks hard enough to hear and feel it. My best guess is that the DMF is now sloppy?

  6. I just bought and installed a Sierra top from Auto Tops Direct. I got the A5 Acoustic with the glass window and defroster including cable for $679 plus shipping. The material is noticeably heavier than the original, and the acoustics are much improved. After you buy, they send a pdf file with excellent instructions -- the best I have seen. I have done a lot of mechanical and trim work but never a top myself; I was a bit concerned. I was able to get it done by myself in two four hour sessions. No problems. Just be careful with the adhesive and stretch the corners taut but not crazy tight. The 3M contact adhesive they recommend in the instructions does come off with acetone if you slop some.
  7. Fairly common for a Porsche tech to change out the radio and give the card to the owner - then they lose it and the only one left is the old one. Try 0979 Awesome. It worked! Thank you!
  8. Loren, Thought I was covered for the radio code. I had one number on the original card and a different number listed by the Durametric software as the radio code. Neither works. I guess the PO changed the radio - twice maybe? 2001 Boxster CDR220 Type 4462 Serial 15075690 24/99 Thanks for the help.
