The plastic sockets in the adjustable joint rod (98642493105) that links a shifter cable to the 5 spd manual transmission on my 1997 Boxster have deteriorated. This part is mounted on the outside of the transmission at the very back of the unit. Porsche has discontinued this $50 part. To replace it will require a new adjustable joint rod part, plus the mounting and pivot brackets plus a new cable assembly. All of this will cost more than 10x the cost of the original part. Best case would be finding a good used replacement. Next best would be a good used replacement for the other assemblies: Their part numbers are: 98642491306 and 98642404110.
