  1. I had the same problem with my 99 carrera4. It turned out two shaft bearings were completely damaged! When I replaced them everything was OK. Quite expensive though, about 1000$ both, without labour.
  2. Well, the same story here! I've been long term BMW owner, and I loved my 3 coupe. But last year I bought 1999 911 - my childhood dream. I'm the happiest person now, when I've just sold it and bought BMW 330Ci. It's not that fast, but much more comfortable and practical. And no issues at all. I've spent a fortune fixing the Porsche in less than an year. Numerous problems with it turned me from Porsche lover to hater actually. One of the best kept secrets in the world, that you can discover only if you own a Porsche is that it is totaly unreliable.
  3. Well, I was a little worried too, because I own the car for 2 weeks now, and my pressure when engine is hot (above 95C) drops to 0.5 and even below. But what I've noticed is that when I start it cold the arrow goes little below 4 and stays there even if I rev the engine to 3k rpm. It is like stuck at just below 4. That makes me conclude that the gauge is mis calibrated and the arrow shows the actual value -1. I have no warning lights and I have gone to diagnostics before buying the car and at Porsche service they haven't found any errors.
  4. Hi, I've found your post now, because I am a new porsche 996 carrera 4 owner! I have the same whining sound on first gear, regardless of the clutch being pushed or not. The sound is much similar to what most cars produce when speeding on reverse. My service specialist told me it wont vanish with oil change, and he suggests opening the gearbox and eventually exchanging worn out bearings. So I am curious how did things develop with your gear box? Have you changed the oil with any positive results?
