  1. Thanks for the support. New Battery did the trick. Wont wait as long next time to replace the battery even with a Ctek charger on the job when I'm travelling. Thanks to all who responded and to JFP for putting my mind to rest before I dropped the new one in..... very best, richard
  2. A bad battery causes all kinds of weird electrical issues to pop up. JFP, Once I replace the battery, is it likely all will return to normal? I hope to get one today, put the car on the charger through the cig lighter, pop the trunk and hope all well after replacement - probable?
  3. 996 Friends Got in the car this evening after 5 days of missing driving it, and she opened as usual with remote FOB. Turned the key and got strange noises but not the starter cranking over, one noise from under/around passenger side seat? Noticed clock was at 12:00 when it was 8 pm, on repeated key turnings passenger window came down one third of the way, car will not start, computer display showed setting mode then oil measurement without touching stalk, interior door lights looked weak. Car will not start, tried to open trunk to check battery - wont open - stepped out of car and noticed rear spoiler up about half way, then recognized it as one of the noises I had heard when turning the key. Got back in, turned the key on, closed the passenger window and was able to manually, with the switch, drop the spoiler. Tried once again, no starter. Used the key to lock the car as always, security system activated. Question is, is this what happens when a 4 year old battery gives up the ghost - erratic behavior? Or might I have more on my plate?? Can battery placement and driving time get me back to the pleasure I had driving her one week ago? thanks for any help in advance, rwrsmart
  4. Sat in line in 39c/100f degree heat in Abu Dhabi with the A/C running for an hour and a half while waiting for a registration inspection for my 2004 C4S. Removed all from the "frunk" just prior to departing for the inspection to make it easier and the electric driver door opener switch worked perfectly as always. Sure enough, everything passed perfectly but the "frunk" would not open. Not the normal click sound or any other near the latch itself when I use the switch. Battery is fine and engine lid works fine. I know this is an OLD topic, have read the remedies and emergency cable location but what I can not find anywhere in the forum or Bentley Service manual is whether there may be one fuse for this. I am hoping that a simple fuse replacement may do the trick . . . . sometimes it is easy and I am hoping this time easy may be the case. . . . thanks for any insight as always, rwrsmart
  5. Have the same model and year and this started 6 months ago ~ happy new year! Our cars are a decade old! Recently changed the pollen filter and saw the deterioration. No worries, slows down and stops over 6 months depending on car use but at least the car doesn't slow down! If its a weekend driver it may take a couple years. You wont notice the difference once the foam bits stop.... Enjoy the ride! rwrsmart
  6. Truly an odyssey ~ well titled! May you have many more years of enjoyment from your P Car. Thank you for sharing....

  9. JFP and I had this discussion about a year ago and I have been using only Castrol Sports Edge 10w60 for my last two oil changes in my 996 4s here in Dubai in similar temps. Highly recommended.
  10. Thanks JFP, seems just a case of new oil ~ over reaction on my part, took her out today and all well.
  11. 2004 - C4S - 50,000km /31,000 miles - 3.6 liter engine Completed my very first DIY oil change thanks to Renntech.org DIY tutorial and it went well. Good feeling not getting ripped off at the dealer and already adds to the enjoyment of this very fine machine . . . . New Hengst Oil filter, new stainless drain plug as recommended AND moved from Mobil 1 to exactly 8.25 liters/ 8.71 US quarts of Castrol Edge Sport 10 W 60 recommended by two Renntech members I respect who agreed best oil based on my location ~ Dubai, UAE ~ temp today was 110 Fahrenheit, btw. Took her out after for a five mile warm up run to 180 degrees - returned home and both dipstick and computer show low oil after appropriate rest ~ oil showing on tip of stick only and lowest bar flashing on computer measurement. Checked for leaks all clean, recently had the engine out and it is not a bearing issue ~ no oil loss there. Any advice appreciated, maybe I am too quick off the mark and need to just run her a bit longer and check frequently? thanks for advice. rwrsmart
  12. long drive tomorrow

  15. Was hearing a ticking noise from the engine compartment on the way down in 2nd ~ 3rd gear from 3 to 2k rpm down. Brought it to my local in Dubai and next thing I know, Im replacing full connecting rod set and bushings, crankshaft bearing, piston rings and all related. Seems it started with a broken bearing and I am told Im lucky i brought it in when I did and unlucky that this happened . . . . . . my car is a 4s 996 26,000 mile on the engine treated with loving care. Bummed for two reasons, 1) two weeks of waiting for parts then repair 2) 5 figure repair price. Anyone heard of this before. . . . ? Maybe unlucky but still love this car. . . . thanks, rwrsmart
  16. Sorry for the off topic Loren ~ first post, but thanks for the response. the noise is coming from inside the steering wheel and makes the same noise car off and just tapping the wheel - ideas? thanks again....
  17. Pretty much hear a constant rattle from my steering wheel from any road vibration. Low Mileage (24,000) 2004 911 Carrera 4s. Any assistance appreciated. rwrsmart
