  1. Savowood, I've already got a 3.2 on the way. I wanted it to be as simple as possible. Mike
  2. I'm seriously considering buying an engine from Silverstar Recycling tomorrow. Anyone have any references for them, good or bad?? Thanks, Mike
  3. Good point $200+/- Thanks, so I could use the same transmission thats in my base 2.7, just change the "pressure plate"? Mike
  4. The 'S' is from an 02. What is involved in: "The only Difference is maybe the pressure plate for a 5 speed vs a 6 speed" What does that cost?? Sorry for the simple question, but I"m not mechanically inclined. :P Mike Good point
  5. I have a 2001 base 986 with manual transmission with a 2.7 liter that has spun a rod bearing and needs a new engine. I have been offered a 3.2 liter "S" engine. Is this simply a plug and play? If not plug and play, what else has to change and is the change difficult or pricey? While it would be nice to do a 3.6 conversion, I very simply don't have the funds for that. Thanks, Mike
  6. My 2001 is primarily my daily driver and I do use it occasionally for the track. My primary motivation for wanting to lower it, is for the cosmetic looks, but I also don't want to cause any unreasonable wear and tear on other parts of the car by doing this, and I would enjoy the handling offered by a better suspension. In my researching the subject, it appears that many have been pleased with the ROW M030 option available from Sunset for about $920.00. I understand it has a good impact on handling and is the "factory" option for a better all around suspension. It also lowers the vehicle, but not as low as the H&R Springs. I also understand that many are happy with the appearance, by just installing H&R Springs which lowers the car approximately 1 inch in front and rear, but that this might cause suspension issues on the track. I don't want adjustable coilovers so that's not an option for me. Thus, I was considering a combination of H&R springs along with the rest of the ROW M030 option (in other words, buying the ROW M030 option and replacing the springs that come with it with H&R). My questions are: 1) Is this feasible? 2) I believe (at least in my non-mechanical and engineering mind) that this will give me the combination I'm looking for, better looks from lowering an inch, and better handling by having the rest of the ROW M030 suspension components. Is this correct? 3) Are these parts compatible? 4) Is it a stupid idea? 5) Do the springs that come with the ROW M030 option have resale value that I will be able to obtain some of my $$ back? I've purchased the H&R springs already, just want to be sure before I order the ROW M030 option. If the combination doesn't sound like a good idea, then I'll have to decide between just going with the lowering springs, or selling them and going with the full ROW M030 suspension. Take care, Mike
  7. Jmatta, Access to it is not hard at all, here's a good step by step. http://www.realtime.net/~rentner/Blog/B600...7809/index.html I ended up taking it to a local shop today to see what they could do. I called Warranty Direct and they would not cover it if I tried myself, so I asked them if they would rather pay for a tow, labor and the parts as opposed to just paying for the parts if I did it, and to my surprise, they wanted the shop to do it. Oh well, hopefully I won't be out any expenses and will be driving again by this weekend. Shop said it appeared to be the upper idler pulley bearings AND the tensioner. I'll let y'all know how it turns out and how much Warranty Direct pays for. Thanks for your advice. Mike
  8. have a base 2001 986. I lost a drive belt so I went to replace it tonight. Everything went well, but when I changed it and started it up, immediately the belt slipped to the outer edge of the power steering pump and the air conditioning, #4 and #5 in the pic. Upon closer examination, it appears that my #3 deflection roller 1 is not angled properly, IE, the belt doesn't go squarely on it, the belt rides out toward the front of the car and therefore when everything rotates, the belt slides off the deflection roller causing it to then slide off the power steering pump and then the air conditioner. The deflection roller doesn't seem to be moveable forwards and backwards, except rotation, so I don't know how to adjust it. It really appears to me like it needs to move closer to the front of the car by a shim. Also, the belt appears to be tight so I think the tensioner is working and I had to use the 24 mm socket to move it, but I'm not sure how to check for sure. When I put the socket and breaker on the 24MM bolt and turn clockwise the tensioner moves to the left, however when I release, the tensioner returns but it does not return all the way to the right, in other words if I apply pressure counterclockwise I can move the tensioner further to the right. Does this mean that the tensioner is not retracting all the way to the position it should be in and is therefore defective? I did this test without a belt on . I'm just testing the tensioner. If its properly functioning, should you be able to move it to the right by turning counterclockwise on the bolt? Anyone know the part number for the tensioner and can a person with little experience install it. Does anyone have any suggestions? I would hate to have to pay a tow truck $150.00 to tow it it Dallas if someone has an easy fix. Does the bolt that holds the deflection roller ever bend down and cause it to get out of line, if so, do you buy a new bolt or a new roller??? How hard is that to install, can I install it using the same access I did to get to the belt, IE, only going through the front engine panel? What about the tensioner? What would you try next? I'm not very mechanical so I was proud just to get this far, but then it doesn't work. Any help would be appreciated. The picture I included with the numbers is a stock photo that everything is functioning properly. The other pictures are my actual car. Nothing seems to be seized, everything spins, its just like its misaligned between 3, 4, and 5. Thanks, Thanks, Mike
  9. Hi, I have a 2001 Boxster 986 and I found this cluster on ebay. Would you gurus look and see if you can tell me if it will fit my car or not? I guess its a little late as I've already won the auction and paid, but just wanted to get some peace of mind hopefully. Thanks, Mike http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAP...3797&rd=1,1
