  1. I tried many different suppliers to see if I could pick up a discounted Akro system, but to no avail. Cheapest system in the UK was coming in at about £5000 fitted. Sourced a few companies in the States that would supply at a discounted price, but then to ship to the UK and customs / excise expenses would bring it pretty much in line with the UK costs. Way toooo much money !! Not yet heard from anyone ( after posting on several forums ) that has had one installed. I ended up buying a used Techart system, but am no able to install it yet, until my OPC warranty runs out.
  2. I thought I had same problem as you as pedal was progressively getting stiffer. Thought it was accumulator. However after putting car into OPC ( as it is still under warranty ) turned out I needed a new clutch as all other components, accumulator, slave cylinder etc were all OK. Cost me a hell of a lot more money than I expected as typically warranty did not cover it. Car now drives as it should, different animal now.
  3. Many , many thanks Loren That is exactly what I was after. Much appreciated for your help.
  4. Thanks for reply. Car is 996tt, 2003 model. Exhaust is second hand, barely used Techart system. It is only mufflers that I am changing. So basically remove OEM system and replace with Techart. So what I would be looking for is the part numbers to change the gaskets when re-fitting, also for correct part numbers for new nuts / studs to connect the system as I would imagine that original items will be past re-using ? Probably will need to replace Lambda sensor(s) also if originals get damaged during removal ? Appreciate anyone's input Cheers
  5. Hi Gents, Wonder if anyone can assist. I am soon going to be changing over my stock exhaust system for a Techart. So just wonder if anyone can assist with correct part numbers etc I will require for swapping over, ie New Gaskets, nuts / studs, Lambda sensors ( if required ) From what I have read so far the majority of parts will be past redemption for re-use , thats if you are able to remove them at all due to corrosion etc. from the stock system ( will have been on car since 2003 ) Any assistance will be appreciated Thanks
  6. Yes sir they now have an exhaust for 996tt, an absolute thing of beauty as well it is. http://www.akrapovic.com/car-exhaust/products/porsche/ However, this unfortunately comes at a huge cost. So realistically, the option of buying one new is sort of out of my budget by a fair margin at the moment. However, if anyone had opted to go for one and found it head and shoulders above the competition, I may be tempted to save hard for it. I believe Akropovic supply the exhaust to Porsche for the 997 GT2.
  7. Hi There, Just wondered if anyone has gone to the expense of fitting an Akropovic slip on exhaust to their 996tt ? If so , how do you find it and is it worth the expense ? How is the sound compared to other aftermarket systems, and is the power increase quoted a reasonable expectation ? Much appreciated
  8. OK gents, just to update you: I had the car into OPC to have new clutch fitted and also look at the hesitation problem. As already mentioned it was occurring at pretty much bang on 1500 RPM. It was most noticeable in 1st gear, and could be a quite savage hesitation sometimes , and slightly less noticeable at other times. It also occurred in 2nd and 3rd gears at times , but was not as savage. Initially OPC stated that it was not an issue as all Turbo's have this hesitation and it was down to the Variocam. I knew this was "Bull" so persevered with them. They then reported that they had found the problem and it was a loose intercooler hose , however when I later to spoke to the Service manager he informed it was actually a loose Turbo pipe. After getting the car back , it was a different beast. The hesitation had gone and it was smooth to drive for the first time, and I was grinning from ear to ear. However, I have since covered around a 1000 miles and I have noticed a very slight hesitation again at around 1500 RPM , but it is very very slight. The car has been back into OPC since to replace an idler pulley ( bad bearing ) and I asked them to again check for the hesitation. They say they have checked the tightness of all intercooler hoses , run diagnostics and have come up with no problems. I have also replaced the MAF with a new item myself just to be on the safe side. But there is still a very slight hesitation. I know there must be something else causing this , and it may take some time to get to the bottom of it, however compared to the way it was I can certainly live with it for the foreseeable future. Appreciate if anyone else has any input to try and find another possible cause. But maybe what I have mentioned so far may help some of you to start some fault finding.
  9. Hi All, Just to update you on hesitation at 1500 rpm. I have had car in OPC last few days to check out this issue, and they have come back and told me that it was loose intercooler pipework. I have not got car back yet to try it, as unfortunately the heavy clutch pedal that I have been getting checked at same time has been diagnosed as requiring a new clutch !! However they assure me that the hesitation has been cured. Will update further once I get car back but may give you all some ideas where to start for now rather than changing coil pack / plugs / MAF. Cheers
  10. Hi Gents, Sorry to ressurect this thread, however I have exactly the same fault with my 2003 model 996t. At pretty much exactly 1500 rpm, the car hesitates ( sometimes minimal, sometimes more pronounced ) Have not noticed this at any other RPM. It appears to be worse in first gear than any of the others. The previous owner had it back to OPC and they found no fault codes, so as is often the case they dismissed it as Variocam. However, I have read so many similar issues with this , it is more than evident that there is a fault. It is unfortunately tarnishing my enjoyment of the car, as when it hesitates you can see people looking at you as if you cannot drive and it becomes annoying. The car is standard with no mods, has done 47000 miles and has been serviced very regulary.I have not tried to replace any parts associated with what was causing this. A few people have suggested trying a new MAF, which I will do when i get home ( unfortunately work away from home a lot ). But the main thing is the car is still under warranty, so I really am keen to find out what is causing it so I can make sure OPC get it fixed and not fob me off with any more excuses. I would really appreciate any input regarding this as I know someone must have gotten to the bottom of what seems to be a fairly common problem. many thanks Willie
  11. Thanks for the welcome folks, I have some fairly bad photo's here to post at the moment ( sorry about the background in some of them ), with more to add once I get around to giving the car a good detail. Cheers
  12. Hello to all from the West Coast of Scotland, I have just joined the forum after purchasing a 2003 model, midnight blue, 996 Turbo, 47,000 miles on the clock. So just wanted to introduce myself. The 996 turbo is everything I have expected and more. It is such an unbelievable machine capable of putting a smile on your face for every revolution of the wheels. I have previously owned a 944S2 and a 964C2 targa, but nothing comes close to this. I hope in the future I can contribute to the forum, but at the moment I have just been leeching all your experiences and tips which has proved very helpful in first purchasing the car. Thanks for reading and I am looking forward to long term ownership of the car Cheers
