    I thought this a good place to check this out. Another Porsche owner upgraded his 986 from t he original 15 in wheels to 17s and now his speedo is way off. He went with Porsche factory 17 wheels and proper tires size. Does one have to adjust or recalibrate t he speedo after changing wheels even when staying in factory wheel/tire size combo?

    First the eBay seller you mention only has PIWIS 1 units listed or sold on eBay and the PIWIS 1 goes up to 2010 and will not scan the Macan. I have also run into a few shops that had units from China. All the China units from 3 different vendors) are running the PIWIS II software on VM so the laptop runs slow and PIWIS II which Porsche tech will tell you runs slow runs even slower. And I know a few shops have had problems with them and there is no support from China when a problem occurs. PM me and I can help you with a 3rd alternative....

    Before getting into the PIWIS vs Durametric conversation, I would strongly recommend the Professional version not the enthusiasts Durametric. It is not limited in how many cars it can access so if and when one may sell it the Professional cable resells for just about the original price. So now there goes most of the difference

    The actual Porsche OEM parts program and database that Porsche dealers use is PET. Both PET and Partslink24 are by Lexcon and the main difference is that Partslink24 must be online and PET can be installed on computer and does not use online access but partslink24 has VIN filter capabilities and Lexcon has locked out VIN info from PET unless one is a registered dealer. As mentioned Partslink24 is either $40/month or $30/month if contracted for a year. One advantage I like in PET is the parts usage feature that shows all models that use the same part. And the diagrams on Autoatlanta are from PET.

    Most of these questions are covers in the 981 WSM. I know it's hard to get but if you PM or email me I can try to help you. Also PET 7.3 covers the 981 with complete parts info, exploded views and more.

    As I said it should. I presume pst2 unit failed? I prefer to insett HD in IBM 600e. Faster and color and repairable. .

    It should but you wil need to transfer the kts card too.

    I recommend you buy the clutch kit complete, save a couple hundred and have a professional do the job. As to whether you should do the job yourself.. answer one question.... Would you drop your engine or transmission from your car yourself? And do you have the complete WSM for the 997? If you need the Porsche WSM or PET or .. send me a PM

    Please note that the 3.6 and 3.8 have different parts numbers. The Carrera S is cheaper than the 3.6 at Pelican. Go figure. Johan I gave that as only one example of the wide range in prices for the identical parts. The one that started the thread has a 997.1 so that is what I answered specifically. And since I have PET 7.3 U366/94 I am quite aware of the part numbers, uses, etc. So to paraphrase Seinfeld " NO PET FOR YOU!"

    I have a 99 996 cab and the windshield frame ( hard 2 piece plastic) is coming lose from the bottom on each side. We are about to get to rainy season ( I know you guys in California need some of it..) and I was hoping there was a fix/repair besides buying an entire windshield assembly.. Is there a prior thread or discussion? Thank you

    The 2005-current Porsche wiring diagrams are in a very large program called WDS. It has all models, year by year with color diagrams detailing each wire and identifying them by color coding, current etc. The program also makes each wire easily traceable by clicking on one wire it highlights the entire run in the diagram. It can run separate from PIWIS or PIWIS and I know it works on windows. PM for more information.

    BTW you should buy the clutch on Ebay. They are selling the complete Sachs clutch kit for less than many Porsche parts suppliers can buy them. It seems that some direct distributors are selling them online cheaper than they are selling to their vendors.     I was was using a PIWIS 2 on a 2011 Cayenne and got two codes but no instructions on procedures to repair the problem causing the codes.

    I know there is a plethora of information on the IMS but I have never seen a bad IMS bearing or an explanation of the problem besides it causes our engines to crap out. I found an interesting video online and thought I would share....

    I was looking for information on the Varioram 993 engine regarding Valve sping adjustments and measurments but in the WSM I only see information on the earlier (non varioram) engines. Is it the same or different measusments and such? Thank you

    I don't think the PST2 will work on the 997 unless he can get the elusive PST2 update 27 ( that includes the 997) that I have only seen a screen shot and a unit that a mechanic from FVD was using. And that unit from Porschecable is the old Chinese Durametric Clone with version 3.1 and is extremely limited on the 997 and can not be updated as it will brick the cable. However it is available on EBay for about half the price on that website.

    I have the complete and updated set of Porsche WSM, OBDII, Diagnostic and each year wiring diagrams for the 996. They cover just about everything except rebuilding the transmission. Well perhaps that's because Porsche never gave part numbers in PET for the transmission internals until 2006) The manuals are in PDF and unlike the ones online they are updated with both engines and changes thru 2005. I like being able to search, print out the pages needed, and not worring about getting the book dirty for next time.

    You should run and check POSES or WSM for Porsche labor hours and proper DIY. Most DIY do not cover 996TT

    That is for the European 991 Turbo. Porsche has not published/released the PDF parts catalogue since 2010. I have the dealer edition PET 7.3 u350 with all models USA and ROW including the 2015 models. PET requires Windows 32 bit OS.

    Ditto and dont get basic Durametric as it is limited to only 3 VINs and you already have 2.

    I strongly doubt it. The last update for the hammer included the OBD module for the 993 but the 996 has a different module and coding. What do you use on your 997? I just put together a PIWIS II and it works on all models.
