  1. I am looking for advise from whom used either Continental Extreme Contact DWS tires or Yokohama Prada Spec X on his Cayenne during Winter season. How happy/satisfied were you on the snow and ice? Both are All Season tires and are very much close to Winter Tire specifications and ratings !! Thanks in advance.
  2. Thanks. I checked the engine oil and that is half way between Max and Min. I know that on June 06 I topped it off and it was at Max. in 2 months time half liter of it is gone. I am wondering why you said: "leak of some fluid" rather than specifically refering to engine oil. the color and form of the fluid is very much like engine oil to me... I am confused why the leak has soaked that far from the engine... as you see its almost in the middle of the car rather than the front part of the car. What does the P/S system do? I see drops of oil thrown to the very end of chassis too... like something has broken and oil spilled out with pressure initially !
  3. Could someone please help me understand where the source of this oil leak could be (Cayenne S) ? Oil has soaked the car's underneath. I thought these pictures can better show the area than I explained it. I do not see any drop of oil hanging there or even on the ground. The soaked area is also very much solid like the oils are mixed with dirts and solidified and stuck to the chassis... When I pressed my finger and dragged on it, it is like 1 to 2mm of oil and dirt thickness that gets clean from the chassis... I do not think this is being Transmission fluid because that is not red at all or watery... I never had engine oil level drop in the winter, but 2 months ago I noticed about 1 liter of oil level has dropped and I top it off. Just thought that might be what people talk about natural engine oil consumption on Cayenne S and Turbos but might be something else ! Thanks for you help.

  5. Not to my knowledge. They replace the main pipes, starter if required (by the way note that the starter (if required) costs around $700 and they really replace a previously factory repair one not a totally brand new starter. they take yours too, then clean, repaired to sell to another customer) and breather pipe on top of the main pipes. unfortunately being proactive and trying to also fix Water Pump at this time does not reduce the costs, that is considered toady independent job, so do not worry for that piece and if that happened in future that would be a separate job. usually parts are under 2 years warranty and the dealer warranty their labor work for 2 years meaning if you faced same issue in next year or so you can get back to them. check to get this from them. One suggestion though: when you get it back, a day later, when the car is in normal temperature (lets say you return from work, park in garage, next morning before you go to work) check the coolant level and you might see it is not at MAX level or its below MIN. top it off to MAX (no more) so that in 2 weeks time when you check it again and its on MAX you are relived there is no leak anywhere else. since the mechanic is in rush to get things done in a day they go by assumption that capacity is xx liter of fluid and they fill it up, then they run the engine and when its warm they check the coolant level and OK to go. and since engine is been warm it usually shows more than it is. But when you check it out at room temperature you'll see its lower than minimum.
  6. Danish: I have the Cayenne S 2004 as well and just 2 months ago I went through this process. Mine used to show lack of coolant of about 1.5 liter every 1500 miles approximately, I used to top it off and again after 1500 miles same loss of coolant. I finally decided to repair. I read through every article in this forum about the Bypass Coolant Pipe Repair and in one of the articles I started to ask those who had the T pipe issue about they Cayenne Model. be assured that the T pipe is not available in S and its specific to Turbo. I even ordered the T pipe and handed over to my mechanic (porsche dealer) to replace and they could not find it in the car, they also searched the part number by model number ad VIN number and confirmed it is not on S models. if they have confirmed that your cayenne problem is the Coolant Pipes under the intake manifold I suggest you do it sooner because you might be able to prevent damage to your starter which is basically under the coolant pipes and the leak falls over it, gradual leak make a pool there and starter will be soaked into coolant. the factory installed pipes are Plastic but new ones that you would replace will be Aluminum.   7. Seems like I do not have this code in the list (on the sticker located in the trunk) !! By the way, I think "snzuloz" was asking about type of the differential oil and I provided him what I could read out of my invoice (changed at dealer).
  8. Its Cayenne S 2004. I am not sure how the TSB you named has defined the differential with locking, But, I think mine is equipped with locking differential for the fact that in I have the gear key located between the 2 front seats it engages 4WD and locking in 2 steps.
  9. Dear Friends, I am told that my Cayenne S 2004 has 20% to 30% brake pads left on it and once this is over I need to replace front and rear rotors because the thickness is below spec (32mm). I was curious to check it out myself with a clipper and I noticed that the current thickness is 32.82mm Assuming the new rotor will be 34mm (Maximum thickness I will get) and the 32mm is the min. thickness (worn rotor) mine is kind of 0.8mm more than minimum (currently 32.82mm) and that is itself like 40% of the thickness to be consumed. (calculating 34mm-32mm = 2mm is 100% of the thickness to be used/worn, the 0.8 is like 40% of this 2mm). I would like to know experts feedback on: - whether or not I should replace the rotors at this point? May I just replace the pads now and leave the rotors for next brake job? - Assuming I was wrong on rotor thickness and ignore replacing rotors at this point because of budgeting issues and proceed with only replacing the pads with a new set, what would be the damage? Would the result be sever shaking of steering wheel during hard brakes or worse things will happen? Thanks for your time.

Thanks for the replies, I am very much happy to hear there are people out there who have been through pipe upgrade process BUT not seen the Torque Converter Seal failure just after pipes break... that gives some hope... Back to starter, Yes I made the decision to pay for a new one, it was expensive ($709). I could not wait and see one of these days my starter fails and have to dismantle all the parts again to reach the starter... so although money was an issue but between "bad" and "worse" i chose "bad".
  13. Gentlemen, The photo posted above by "Faceman" is the T connecotr with Part# 955 106 323 50 which is really the problem maker. Could you please inform if that is specific to Cayenne TURBO models or not? I need to know if Cayenne S models have this item in their engine and if anyone has really replaced that in his Cayenne S? Since we have people both in Canada and US who have replaced this T Connector, may I pose the question differently now: May this T pipe be specific to Cayenne TURBO models only and NOT available in Cayenne S? I can not believe that I made the part (T Connector Part# 955 106 323 50) available to my mechanic ,in Porsche Dealer basically, and he is in the middle of upgrading my pipes to aluminium (already in that place) and tells me this pipe is not for your Cayenne S !!!! it is not available in that engine?
  15. I am thinking anyone of you who experienced break of the T connector (955-106-323-50) has European Design engines in your Cayenne which has the T connector pipe. My CS04 is currently under repair for coolant pipes. I asked my mechanic and he ordered the T connector pipe based on part number, He also check that on the exploded views before he orders that to make sure what part it is... so far so good... when he received the part and he was ready to install it he could not find anything like this behind the engine or around... there was only a Straight Hard Plastic not a T shape one. So he did further research and told me that the European cars have this T connector and not the US Cayennes... designs are different between US and Europe Cayennes. Do we have anyone here in US who has experienced this problem or proactively has changed this T connector on his Cayenne? Thanks.
  16. Hello All, My CS04 coils and ignitions are replaced back in 2008 at 37,000 miles under warranty. I learned that the part number for the coils used at the time is 948-602-104-03 Can you please tell me if these are considered same old bad design coils or the upgraded/redesigned ones? Thanks,
  17. Dear friends, should I replace the starter or not? Also, do you think the leak which has found its way down into the starter hole and over flywheel, etc. could have already damaged the Torque Converter Seal? My service advise is totally negative on this and he believes any fluid getting in there would never damage torque converter because it is sealed. He say they do not have any of previous customers who did this job returning in few months for Torque converter seal issue. Your opinion/experiences would be appreciated. Now: more update on this leak issue: So the coolant was really Orange in color and the 2 icicles formed under bell housing was from the coolant drips. It is interesting to see what I thought to be a gradual leak (I mean 1 liter coolant loss in reservoir every 2,000 miles and not a sudden loss / pipe burst) could have gone this far... See photos of the starter and how the coolant has formed around the area...
  18. Thanks. Probably mine is the same thing. Mine has a gradual leak and it was strange to me that it could go all the way down from valley to the back of engine, over bell housing and shape icicles. Of course we have a very cold weather here in MN. I had the discussion with my advisor on how likely would be that this drops on bell housing could have damaged Torque Converter Seal !! He was totally negative on this. I have read people talking about the time pipes blast and the whole coolant pour over bell housing and that cause damage to the Torque Converter Seal, but my advisor said: How that could happen because everything is sealed !!!! so now I am a bit confused what really happens there. Did you have any issue after the coolant leak?
  19. Just to update you, I had the car being inspected and a cold pressure test carried on it but shows nothing wrong, it keeps the pressure constant. Tomorrow a hot pressure test will be carried, maybe that could reveal something. I know that there is a leak some where because in the past months (4,000 miles of driving) I have topped the coolant reservoir 2 times each time with approximately 1 to 1.5 liter of coolant to bring it to max level. There is no sign of leak on any of the hoses or water pump, etc. and pressure test showed everything OK. Any idea / hint would be appreciated. During this inspection, when we removed the lower tray (beneath the engine) there was 2 crystal/icicles in orange color hanging from the transmission bell housing. it is weird !! I know that I use OEM coolant which is Purple or say Pink color not orange. We know that ATF is red and does not freeze too... Could anyone have any idea what the Orange color icicles / crystals could be? My mechanic thought I might have used ginger tabs to repair some coolant leaks somewhere but I know that I never used such stuff. Does anyone have any idea or experiences of such Orange color crystal under the Bell Housing? Many thanks...
  20. I let dealer check on this and it appeared to be normal. It is in fact the ABS pump pre charge that is done after every start up to make it ready for ABS operation when needed.
  21. Thanks for the replies. I have had this sound coming after every first start and move from stand still since October 2010... I wish to know what it is? could that be related to brake booster pumps because as I said it is very very similar to the ABS Pumps when they operate on a slippery road.

  23. Hello CTTinTO: Did you figure out what caused the sound? Let me explain a similar sound I have on my CS04 which is kind of similar: Whenever I start the engine and start moving from stand still, after about 20 seconds of driving I hear a squeak sound (maybe more like the sound you hear if you pull a spring and release it, or sound of a mechanical pump pushing a fluid into a device with pressure and very very similar to the sound you would hear when ABS pumps start to react when wheels are sliding on icy road). The sound comes from front, right side, of the vehicle. (if the weather is too cold and car starts in D1, the sound never comes out until it moves to D2 and then after 3 seconds being in D2 it is heard, so it is like total time of 20 to 30 seconds after engine start and first move, if weather is warm and I start in D2, it is also heard within 10 to 20 seconds of first move). I Won't hear that anymore, even if I stop, park in P gear, then D and move. If I turn the engine off and ON again and start from stand still, the sound comes back. Is that Normal? Any help would be highly appreciated.
  24. Warranty is extended to additional 4 years or up to 100,000 miles for MY 2004 to 2006. Even if you have not received the official letter form Porsche USA, you can go to the dealers and ask for it, they must accept that and if you face problems you can contact Porsche USA. They distributed letters in October 2010 and won't do that again even if you ask. Also, they have mentioned in those letters that if you had this issue and you did repair it in other workshop not authorized dealer they will still accept some of the charges !! try calling Porsche USA and ask for it.
  25. Normally this is written in the User Manual of the car and its pretty simple steps to follow. Remember to check the bulb when you open it because it is not always the bulb issue but the bulb Holder of it... it is recommended to replace the holder along with the bulb.
