  1. Thanks for the info Toolpants. Yes, the aftermarket tips are expensive....running in the $800 range....ouch. I may go for the Cayman S tip, can be had for about $250 or so I believe. I don't like the Boxster S tip. I prefer the dual round look as opposed to the dual oval look......
  2. Does anyone know if the exhaust tip from a 986 will fit a 987? I'd like to retrofit a 986 "s" tip on my 987.....I don't care for the single outlet.
  3. I had my oil piston pump replaced last summer, and the noise is back.
  4. My service message is also showing on my 2005 987. I called the dealer and an independant shop and they both told me that I'm due for the 15K service. The dealer wanted $600+ for it, and the shop quoted me about $475. They both told me that all it entails is an oil change, cabin air filter, and a list of things to "check". Unreal how much this costs. Neither mentioned the brake fluid or alignment/balancing. That sounds suspicious to me, why align a car that doesn't need it?
  5. This noise is a very well known issue in the Boxster community. There is a TSB out there to fix it. I also had this noise and had the dealer fix it. It involves replacing a piston in the oil pump. The noise occurs right at 2100 rpms before the engine is up to normal operating temperature. Apparently, once the oil warms up the piston no longer makes the noise. They installed the updated piston in the oil pump for me and the noise is 90% gone. I still get it occasionally but not nearly as bad..
  6. That Boxster must have been featured on "Pimp my Ride"
  7. :drive: lets see some pics! (or video, even better!)
  8. so that's the difference between mechanically inclined and bored, and mechanically inclined and lazy :D HA I fall somewhere in between, mechanically inclined, bored, and cheap! :jump:
  9. I purchased the B&M kit for $243 delivered and installed it myself in about 2 hours. Was it the easiest install ever? No, but not the hardest either. No matter what, I can't see paying $500 more for the Porsche part and the install, which is easier than the B&M kit. (FWIW, I'm not trying to flame anyone who went this route, just trying to add my $.02 to the topic!)
  10. Looks like it. I made an appointment. Nothing underneath looks loose, I checked.
  11. I have an '05 987 with the power seat package. The controls are not working on the drivers side, just noticed it last night. Neither the controls on the side of the seat itself, nor the memory controls on the door will work. Passenger side works fine. Pulled the fuses and they "looked" ok. Ideas?
  12. I have a brand new 987 with about 500 miles on it. I notice that upon start up, when the car has sat for a while, it blows a hefty amount of smoke for a moment. This is not the steam you see on a cold day, it's 85 here today, also it smells like smoke. Is this normal?
  13. I picked up my new 05 987 on Wednesday from a Porsche dealer in Western Massachusetts (great experience if anyone from around here is in the market, PM me). Traded in 2004 Audi A4 Cabriolet. I have had a couple of days to get used to the Boxster and this is a quick rundown of my initial impressions. 2005 Boxster, Carmon Red, Black Top, Sand Beige interior. Bose with wind stop, Power seats, auto climate, 18in rims, floor mats. First, appearance: I got the Carmon Red Metallic, which seems to be a rare color around here. All I can say is WOW! The color is absolutely stunning and if you haven't seen it in person, pictures do it no justice. Its a burgundy-like color. Looks good with the black top. Might look ok with the tan top, but I think it would give it more of a feminine look (sorry). 18in rims look great, and I think are a must. I really didn't care for the look of the 17s, and I think the 19 might be overkill. This particular model didn't come with the painted center caps, so I am browsing eBay for a nice set. Any ideas where I could find a set for a good price? Interior is a the light tan color, and also looks great. I am, however, worried about wear and dirt. I will have to be extra careful to make sure my hands are super clean on the wheel and shoes are clean on the rugs, same for the seats. The Bose system was a bonus on the car that I got, wasn't a must for me. I am impressed with the sound of the system so far, but not all of the logistics (more later). The autoclimate is a waste in my opinion, again it was on this car on the lot. I would use the 500 bucks for some of the little options like painted wheel centers, etc. Performance: The engine sounds great and pulls very well. I feel like I am beating on the car all the time though, as I cannot help winding the revs up everytime I drive. The salesman told me that there is no break-in period necessary, but I have been TRYING (somewhat unsuccessfully) to go easy on it. I haven't redlined it and have only given it full throttle briefly. Handles the corners unbelieveably well. A couple of niggles: What is up with the radio buttons. I have to use my pinky to press them without pressing more than one and I don't have particularly fat fingers. I HATE the fact that Satellite Radio is unavailable. I have become addicted. Reception seems to suck. Also, no in dash CD changer. I don't like how the engine fan turns on so often in the righthand intake/vent. It seems extremely loud and takes away from the sweet song of the flat 6. Is it me or is it impossible to close either trunk without getting fingerprints all over your freshly washed paint? Although I actually like this "Porsche attribute," how long is it going to take me to get used to having the key on the left side of the steering column? :) All in all, let me say that I love this car. Man oh man all I want to do is drive now. I haven't driven it yet with the top up! Thanks for reading.....
  14. Kevin, great write up. Thanks for taking the time. While it may not be a mod that everyone wants to do, to each their own. Your write up gives people a clear instruction on how to perform the mod if they want to. I think I might try it.
