  1. Have you checked the fuel pumps for volume and operating pressure? Sometimes misfire codes can lead you down the garden path, you have misfire codes for certain cylinders but it might actually be the paired cylinder at fault. Example would be a four cylinder engine with firing order of 1-3-4-2. Cylinder 1 and 4 are common to each other as is 3 and 2. Engine fault code P0304 but actually cylinder #1 is at fault..... just something to be aware of. Also carefully inspect the ground path and wiring harness for the coils on the bank in question. Age/Heat can deteriorate the harness and cause issues.

Can you monitor Mass Air Flow Sensor with VAGCOM?

  2. The locking mechanism that engages the steering wheel lock fails which is controlled via a module operating a small electrical motor which is all part of the steering column. A new unit must be installed and coded by a OPC or someone with the correct scan tool/software. I've tried to install used units with no success.

Porsche isn't the only manufacturer with systems like this, it's the norm these days and many other makers have many more problems with their hardware than Porsche.

  3. wvicary, believe it or not aftermarket head units properly installed will not disrupt the CAN system. The cluster communicates with the PCM only for trip computer functions. The PCM just does not get the signal because it is not there which, fortunately the cluster and the rest of the can system do not notice. I have an Alpine NAV in my car which is working fabulously. The problem is the MOST system which dishes out the audio in digital signals over fiberoptic cables. After market head units talk in analog only. Fortunately, there is a company in FL, NAVTV that makes an AD conversion module which plugs directly into the MOST system turning your analog output back into digital. Works great.

Properly installed is the key. I've had many times an after market audio unit wired in improperly and stopped communications with a scan tool and have read of cases were it has damaged the scan tool. Some OBD cable are even fused to protect the scan tool.

  4.

Is the a check engine light or drivability problem? I no longer trust durametric for reading fault codes on the Cayenne as I've seen too many bogus faults generated when a problem doesn't exist.

A lot of the Durametric problems with the Cayenne line has to do with the use of Siemens made DME's in those models, which apparently use a different diagnostic logic.  From what I have read, VW diagnostic systems, which do not work on other Porsches, seem to do a better job with these cars.

I was informed by Durametric not to use VW diagnostics ( such as Ross-tech )on the Cayenne as it can cause CANBUS faults.
