  1. Many thanks Bill. Can't believe it was so easy. Your site was already set for my radio. Walt M.
  2. Where I can buy or download owners manual for the single CD/radio in my 2000 carrera2? Radio face drops down for access to single CD player. Thanks.
  3. Code is P0455 which supposed to mean evaporator emission system leak detected, gross leak/no flow. Maybe vacuum line or egr valve going bad. Is this a DIY?
  4. Thanks for the suggestions. I'm having the check engine light checked by the tool to determine the problem next week. I'll keep in touch.
  5. FYI, I have reputable inspector in Houston, TX who I used to inspect my 2000 carrera2 that was located at a Houston used car dealer in 2010. He does extensive inspection and I used his report to get the dealer to fix things on the car and for price negotiation before I bought it and was delivered to me in central VA. Any interest, contact me.
  6. 2000 carrera2 with 54k miles. Last month check engine light came on and I found that I hadn't screwed gas tank cap on after filling with gas and lost the cap. Bought after market nonventilated gas cap made by Stant in USA but light stayed on anyway until l disconnected battery . (Similar time period I found a nonethenol gas station that I began using infrequenty.) Anyway, light came on again and after disconnecting/connecting battery again, it went out. Today it came onagain. Don't believe disconnecting battery again is the answer. Could the aftermarket gas cap be my problem (and maybe mixing nonethenol with ethenol gas here in central VA?). Also, I haven't found the tool to check what codes are from the check engine light. Don't recall if original porsche gas cap nonventilated. What do you think?
  7. No clunks so what's a pinion bearing; located in tranny?; and, is it a DIY fix? Thanks.
  8. Car is 2000 carrera2 cabrio manual trans w/54k miles. Since last year have noise that sounds like an old worn out automatic tranny when I accelerate. When coasting and at stop, no noise. Noise most heard during winter when hard top installed as obviously keeps noises in cab better than with soft top up. One local dealer couldn't hear nor find a problem; other local dealer says to flush tranny, which I did, but still the noise. PCA site suggested ask the dealers. Intermediate main and rear main seals/bearings, routine 996 problems, checked out when new clutch installed this summer (and I forgot to have the garage check the noise during the clutch fix). All other scheduled maint up to date. Friend who is ex porsche mechanic suggests something in the tranny but if can live with noise and no problems operating the car, then continue to live with it. Any suggestions? thanks.
  9. My 2000 carrera came with one disc player behind radio but cassette not cd storage trays (strange, I know). Dealer has disc player trays insert available to switch. Anyone DIY?
  10. I have 2000 carrera cab with hard top. Hard top can be removed and installed by one person with ceiling rack. THere are three profiles: soft top up; top down; and, hard top on (and coupe). Believe the hard top installed profile makes the car the best looking of the four views (in fact, Porsche made hard top coupe version in the 1960s). Definitely is a quieter and sturdier feeling ride. My car is silver with black interior and black soft top. I'm considering painting the hard top black color to make it a two toned car. This gives the hard top owner more flexibility in personalizing the looks of the car.
  11. Wind deflector works better on my 2000 996 if rear windows could be raised with front ones. Experience from wind deflector in 2005 bmw 325 which allows rear windows to be raised and results in less wind hitting you. Wind on 996 is deflected but some comes through sides between top of seats and end of windows. I'm trying to survey our folks to determine if rear windows can be changed to allow them to be raised when top is down. Nevertheless, recommend getting one. Bought mine used.
  12. Assume you did this because the car didn't have the factory option of daytime running lights that would've had to been activated via the onboard computer. I'm having an issue with this regarding my 2000 carrera. Dealer can't tell me if the car has the option unless they can hook the car up to their computer when they activate the auto door locking.
  13. When I drop the top, only the two front windows can be raised; rear windows can't. The wind deflector would be more efficient if the rear windows could be raised since they would help to block air coming through the opening between the sides of the front seats and both ends of the deflector. The bmw 3 series convertible allows all windows to raise when top is dropped which makes its wind deflector more efficient. Anyone with similar issue been successful in overriding the system to allow the rear windows to be raised with the two front windows after top is dropped? Thanks. Walt M.
  14. Thanks Loren. It worked. Walt M. On another subject, what catagory in your renntech do I use to ask about what the onboard computer on my 2000 carrera2 can be adjusted to do. Owners manual says can be set to automatically lock doors but no mention of daytime running lights. But, dealer says can be adjusted to operate them. Also, you have an article describing how one of your members installed daytime running lights on his car which would imply that the onboard computer can't do it. Which area for 996s would this question be appropriate for me to send to you. Walt M.
  15. Loren, I have 2000 carrera2 nonturbo that I disconnected battery and need radio code to make it work again. It's becker, type (model) 4462; serial Y5050670 and CDP 2081. Thanks. Walt M.
  16. 2000 carrera2 non turbo. Is dealer only option for activating via onboard computer the daytime running lights and locking the doors? Thanks.
  17. Where/what's the "approriate forum?" Thanks. Just thought to look up BReyes/Bernard and appears that's the "appropriate forum"/your recommended source for parts. If so, I'll search there. Thanks again.
  18. My 2000 c2 non turbo 53k miles due for 40k maintenance. Oil/filter and belt done recently. All I'm aware of remaining are spark plugs, air and gas filter replacements. Any recommendations for spark plugs and locations to purchase all the parts? Thanks. Walt M.
