  1. Due to my height, long arms and big hands, it took me about 1 hour and 10 minutes.

    What a PITA, I had to bend in ways I thought were not possible.....LOL

    Now key goes in and out smoothly and no electrical issues.... Key has a little more resistance to turn. No biggie.

    Thanks all for the advice and write ups, nice fix for less than 13 dollars......

  2. Any feedback yet on the unit?

    I bought one, and here is my honest and as much as I can objective feedback, given that this is a 79.00 part. While the closest thing is about twice the price.

    It works fully 75% of the time, what does that mean?

    75% of the time, I press the button and it does the whole thing perfectly (open or close full cycle)

    15% of the time, I press the button, and nothing happens, have to press it again or keep it pressed as the automated part was not there

    10% of the time, I press the button and it starts opening or closing, but the rear flap stays open (after the convertible opens or closes), have to press the button, and keep it pressed for the rear flap to come down

    For some reason, it does not light up with the interior lights.

    Tyler provided great customer service, the first one was even more erratic than the second one. He shipped a new one immediately upon contacting him.

    He also acknowledge the problem with the lights, I can live with it.

    I did notice the following: the location where the shoestrings attach to the top (both sides), seems to be really "tired", may be ripped. But without another car without the problem sitting next to it is difficult to tell (need a reference).

    I will first experiment with the shoestrings, I will try to make a "fold" of about half an inch on each with a safety pin, and see how it does.

    Then I will continue to increase until the sides are "pulled enough" to fall in the groove. At that point I will sew the fold.

    Thanks for the update, I did a quick check, and notice the slack around the center (on both sides) of the convertible top. Although I could not see a ribbon, it seems like there should be something there. I will take my time tomorrow investigating, I am sure I will find something out of place. I did notice the plastic band that runs in a slot on the middle metal frame on the top (from one side to the other). I had a feeling the 2 sides of the top (tensions cables) should be attached to it, but it was not obvious.

    But again, I will have plenty of time tomorrow to look closely and carefully for any tears, detached strings/straps, etc..

  5. Was your issue the elastic ribbon?

    Mine is doing the same thing, cables staying outside the plastic trim when closing the top. I thought it was the cables loosing tension or being "streched due to age". But after reading RFM post, it makes a lot of sense. I need to check this ribbon that pulls them "in". If it is broken or overstreched, then I will know what the problem is and will fix this weekend.

  6. Thanks for the reply,I will check, but those appear to be short.

    As mpikounis wrote, the cable seems to run inside a plastic channel which is part of the convertible top canvas, from corner to corner on each side (as he shows in his picture).

    I also hope is a separate cable, as my canvas top is in almost perfect condition, but the cables at each end are not too tight.
