  1. So, in this whole changeout process a battery tender would be nice but if you don't have one, there's no real electronic issues to deal with by disconnecting and reconnecting the new battery?
  2. Cool tip Paul! When you want to use the Nav, just insert the silent CD and you're on your way to one voice only. Always a way around something if someone puts some thought into it. Thanks, Tony
  3. You installed it yourself I take it? No issues with the electronics when you disconnected and installed the new one? Price?
  4. Vivadna & others, My 2008 C2S goes into the dealer on 11/01 for service and the service mgr is going to check it out. In talking to two other 997 owners though (one at work who is an IT guru) believe the mute mode for radio/CD is not an option on our cars. It appears that you do have to either raise the level of the navigation sytem to basically over power the radio/CD. if this is fact, sure seems like a design flaw to me too. Will keep everyone posted on what the delaer has to say also. I am sort of surprised too that others with navigation and posslby use it more than me have not chimed in and responded. Thanks to all that did....
  5. Sorry guys but I sent this to Bob in error instead of Skibum.
  6. Bob, I know this is a rather old subject but I just posted the same question on my 2008 C2S with the radio and nav voices going on at the same time. Unfortunately I posted my question before searching and then saw your question. Did you resolve? In talking to the service manager at the local Porsche dealer here in Pasadena,CA, he wants me to bring my car in as he says something is wrong. Just wondering what you found out. Thx,
  7. Thanks RFM. I will read the owners manual once again for the volume control on both radio and navigation and adjust accordingly.
  8. Have a 2008 C2S with factory navigation. I have owned the car six months and am just starting to use the nav system. With radio on, I pushed the "nav" button (radio still playing) and put in destination directions. Directions fine and voice on nav system proceeded to give me directions but the AM radio voice was still on too. Consequently I have two voices going at the same time. When I pushed the "nav" button shouldn't the radio (or CD) gone into a mute mode automatically? Read the owners manual but no mention of this type of issue. Thx in advance.
  9. Has anyone ever added the factory sport exhaust option to their car after taking delivery without it. Wondering about cost and who might do it in Los Angeles. 2008 Carrera S. Thanks, Tony
  10. About 3 weeks ago, our local dealer here in Pasadena, CA, offered a courtesy tech session at their dealership which included hooking the car up to the computer to ensure all was operating correctly. No fault codes came up and, this problem has not happened again since my posting. I talked to the service manager and his speculation was that since I was in a hurry to get my car out of the middle of the aisle so other cars could pass, that I was not fully depressing the clutch pedal which is required to start the car. He may be right because it has not occurred again and I was in an extreme hurry to get it started and out of the way. Regardless, the 2008 C2S is running perfectly. Appreciate the responses...
  11. So, is what Jager points out in his picture on the end of his magnetic drain plug "normal"? I've never used a magnetic drain plug before so I'm just wondering... Tony
  12. 2008 C2S. Is a magnetic oil drain plug a good idea or not? Was reading on L & N website about IMS failures and they suggested one. Appreicate advice. Thx, Tony
  13. Thanks everyone for the insight. Much appreciated. Tony
  14. Thanks Loren and JFP (again). I thought it looked interesting and sort of "different" Tony
  15. Thanks JFP. I guess I wasn't too clear or clear enough in my question as I have a 2008 Carrera S but my S is the silver color just like the word Carrera is. I was wondering how other owners of S models got a red letter S instead of the silver S like the rest of us probably have. Tony
  16. On the engine lid of a 997 Carrera S I saw today, the "S" was red while "Carrera" was the standard darker aluminum color. When people ordered their cars new was the red "S" an optional requested item?
  17. Might suggest a competitive quote from another dealer or two just to see how fair (or not) the price is the dealer is providing. Just a suggestion... tony
  18. 2008 C2S, 20K on mileage. While at a mall this past weekend, I was backing out of a stall and a car cut behind me. Hit the brake pedal slightly before the clutch pedal and the car of course stalled. Turned the key off, back on and the car only seemed to turn over a second and then nothing. Tried a second time and same thing. Seemed almost like vapor lock but I'm sure these cars don't experience that. Third time, the car started right up. Never occurred again on the way home while stopping for gas and at the local video store. Anybody ever experience this? Otherwise, car runs great and, this has never occurred since I have had the car (3 months now). Thanks in advance for any insight. Tony
  19. docdyh, I don't mean to pry, but why don't you give us an idea of how much the dealer is asking for the car and possibly we can guide you further. Mark is right about the $10 - $12K above what they took it in for so you should have some "wiggle" room versus their asking price. My guess is maybe around $55K or so on the asking price? Tony
  20. Thanks Kgoertz and Mark for the insight. I'll keep an eye on it and maybe power wash as suggested. I did check the tire pressure and it seems to be OK. Otherwise, car runs great! Tony
  21. Picked up my 2008 C2S from the dealer 3 weeks ago w/18000 miles on it. The dealer installed new Pirelli P-zero tires all the way around (rear are 305/30/19). I have put 700+ miles on the car and have noticed a burnt rubber tire smell from the rear tires after driving. I am not leaking any oil and I have checked underneath the car and see nothing out of the ordinary. Any thoughts or ideas on what this smell might be? Thanks in advance. Tony
  22. Thanks Bill for the invaluable insight. I did have the clear bra professionally installed and while the guy was at my house he mentioned the headlights too. After seeing the 996 here in Pasadena, CA, with the yellow film on his headlights, I thought it looked good. The vendor that installed my clear bra said he could install the same material in the yellow film on the headlights and if I ran into a problem with local law enforcement, he could easily remove it. No cop buddies to ask but I may give it a try regardless as I believe the ticket would be a fix it only and not a fine (hope). Thanks again, Tony
  23. Thanks for the reply Number3. I was looking at the yellow tint as I felt it gave it a little more of a European flavor. I talked to the shop that applied my clear bra and they said the film on the headlamp is easily removable if need be. Tony
  24. Has anyone put the protective film on their headlight lenses? I was considering the clear film like the clear bra material and then I saw a nice 996 with the yellow film and thought that looked really good. Anyone had the colored film installed, gotten a ticket and had to remove it? Thanks in advance. Tony 997 C2S
