The attached picture shows a muffler with the 'S' aluminum spacer. 4 bolts attached to the transmission (not shown), 2 nuts to studs on the bar spanning the top of the muffler(1 nut removed in photo). As you can see, there is some side-to-side adjustment. Up and down adjustment is only a small amount possible by loosen-push up-tighten of the bolts. Great Picture, This is a good view! Food for thought, I will see if I can get at these bolts? Question, the two round cylinders have allen fittings in them. Would these have anyting to do with the up and down adjustment? Is there anyone out there that has any "tips" on adjusting the height of the exhaust tips? I need to bring mine up a bit. I hope I do not have to take the rear end apart to get at the top side of the muffler.

Max - I don't know if you still have that used control unit, but mine's gone out and ToolPants directed me here. AR, Thanks a lot. I was able to get the seat control apart and I am just waiting for the delivery of my new "skin". I am taking some pictures of the seat as I take it apart if anyone is interested? I have a pretty ugly seat the previous owner spilled some chemical on it. I hope to get it back into new condition soon. Another version of one of those makeover things the girls watch I guess? Bruce

I am in the process of replacing the leather on the seat cushion of my drivers side Boxster S. The instructions I have show what I think are 3 screws for removal of the seat control plate and the two handles? There are two very visible small screws that were easy to remove, got that done. Beyond that, there appears to be another screw at the the bottom of a very small hole in one of the levers and I can not figure out how to remove it? Does anyone know the specific type of screw or tool for removal? Any other tips on getting this control unit removed? Thanks Max

Loren, Thanks to you I now have a leak free transmission and have the proper amount of fluid. I will be ready to hit the road as soon as the snow leaves MN. Hopefully by July :lol:

Loren, I finally got my new switch and it replaced quite easy. No more leak! Now all have to do is add fluid to get up within the prescribed level. I think I have found the proper place to fill? I am looking at a nut about 1/2 the way back from the axle about 1/4 of the way down from the top. There appears to be a drain directly below this near the bottom of the transmission casting. Does this sound correct? Thanks again Bruce

Tool Pants, These are great photos of a Boxster S engine and transmission. Can you some how point out where the transmission fluid fill port is. I had a leak which I fixed and I need to add a little fluid. Thanks, Max -

Loren, Thanks to you guys I am making progress on this leak problem. I was able to get the clip compressed and have the wire off. I also found a way to get a socket on the fitting which will allow me to remove the fitting that is leaking. Two questions: 1. When I remove the fitting will I lose a lot lot of fluid? 2. Is the part number you gave me in one of your previous replies specific for this fitting and a Boxster S? Thanks Again MAX

Loren, Thanks again! I think I have the picture now. I'm kind of hard headed. Does anyone have any kind of detail on how the "latch" type mechanism works. This connection is in a very tight location and my eyes are not what they used to be. This sounds like it should be an easy do it yourself but I do not want to brake something in the process. Loren, Thanks for your interest in my little problem. In looking at your photo this looks like the business end of the tranny heading for the engine? I may get the same answer from you but my connector is on the tail end of the tranny just prior to where the muffler hander resides. (Passenger side of the car) Is there anything different with this connection what ever it is? Thanks again, MAX

Another question about this if anyone knows what I am talking about? Is there a special tool required like a split socket or does the wire come off easy so I can get a conventional socket on it? Still leaking. Max

The part number on my unit is 996.618.260.07 and it was on a 1999. Just remember, this a bit of a gamble. The part is no good to me and if you think you can use it just let me know. I have gotten a lot of help from this forum and it is time for me to try to give back where I can. Max

I have the very unit same part number from a parts car that I purchased. I have no idea if it is in working condition? I would be willing to send it to you if you want to take the chance? Max

I put my car in storage for the winter and inspected this weekend. I found a leak under the tail end of my transmission. I have a Boxster S 3.2 with a 6 speed manual. After closer scrutiny, it appears the leak is from around the seal on the electrical connection that lives on the extreme rear part of the transmission passengers side about 2 O'clock looking from the back of the car. What exactly is this and can it be tightened. Does it have a gasket that needs to be replaced? Any other ideas? Thanks from a novice!

Will 8 way power seats from a 2001 996 Carrera work in a 2001 Boxster "S" if it only has a power back? If so, any other potential problems with doing this? Thanks, MAX

Tool Pants, Thank you very much for taking time out to look at my situation. Yes the alarm does not work. A dealer has confirmed it with their PST2. The car will not lock with the remote or the button on the dash. The M535 replacement module I have has a part number of 996.618.260.07. I will pull the seat ASAP and get the data off the module in my car. Max

Apparently, my security module is not working. I just noticed that there is one small 15 amp fuse on this module. If this is bad would it shut down the entire function of the module? I do have a spare module from a 1999, I own an 01. Would I do any damage if I tried switching these out? I am kind of desperate at this point I am not close to any service center. I had it in once and they just wanted to replace every thing without doing any significant trouble shooting. Thousands of dollars! My biggest inconvience at this point is I can not lock the passenger door. My wife is getting kind of tired of guarding the car when we go places. Other than security issues I have a great car. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Is anyone aware of a place that can rebuild/trouble shoot DME's and security modules? I have a spare security module from a 1999 regular Boxster. What would happen if I put this in my 01 Boxster S? :help:

Kevin, Thanks for the reply. Due to the fact that my security system/computer is not fully functional I can not make my car do this. I probably need a new DME, security module or both. I need to find a way to make the door lock switch lock the passenger door, ignoring the the computer which obviously does not want this to happen? I have a module from a 1999 boxster which I could switch out with mine but I am afraid that I could loose some of the functions that I presently enjoy. Help!

My 01 Boxster S was in a significant accident and is mostly repaired at this point. My last challenge appears to be the security system. This system does not work which presents me with the most immediate problem of not being able to lock the passenger side door. Is there a work around on the door lock button so I can lock this door some how. I presently can lock the drivers side with my key. Thanks

Tool Pants, Is the part labeled U an adapter for a tiptronic transmission? I can not make sense out of it for any other reason? I get this answer and I should be good to go on this project. Thanks Again for your patience with me, I know I am kind of a pest. Max
