  1. Hi, I also have a Mk1 GT3, it also does the same on start up. Very annoying. No one can give me a proper answer as to why it happens but it doesnt happen on every startup, probably 7 out of 10 from cold. I believe it has something to do with the cam chain tensioners, losing pressure / tension, causing the chain to rattle until oil pressure has built up. Some of the comments i have had are 'it is standard on these cars' 'its a race engine what do you expect' ' its dry sumped' - all ridiculous, no one knows or they are not telling! Perhaps £500-00 GBP worth of new cam chain tensioners will do the trick. I will keep you posted.
  2. Hi all, just wondered if any one has any feedback on the following? Are there any known problems when repalcing the GT3 Mk 1 suspension with GT3 MkII suspension, I have a complete set from a MKII car that has only covered 5,000 miles. My GT3 has covered 35,000 miles and the struts are now leaking and sad. Acording to PET the parts numbers are the same apart from the damper and spring. The workshop manual shows the geometry specification as the same for both vehicles. Has any one fitted aftermaket suspension to a GT3 Mk1 if so is the Billstein PSS9 kit the one to go for. Regards Dave
  3. Hi, I own a mark1 GT3. I have encountered a problem just like yours. My problem was solved when I changed the ignition coils, 2 of the coils had rusted away around the laminated metal part causing an intermittent missfire. The coils and leads on these cars are open to the elements and I beleive this is a common problem. Also it is easy to break the plugs when changing them if you do not use the correct socket. Regards Dave
  4. Craig, thank you for your reply. I did not mention in my posting that this rattle only occurs 5 out of 10 starts and it does not matter how long the car is standing! When the car starts without the rattle it is sweet. The noise is definitely coming from the right hand side of the engine. The oil leak I mentioned is also coming from that side and this has been investigated by Porsche yesterday, who have told me that it is a copper sealing washer on a bolt that goes through the cam chain tensioner and to rectify this leak would cost 8 hours labour! and off course this is not covered by the extended Porsche warranty! Perhaps the oil that is retained in the tensioner is leaking through this washer! I will investigate further and keep all posted, need some engine diagrams. Does anyone know where to get a workshop manual for this car if there is one available?
  5. New to this forum, I am the proud owner of a GT3 mk1. I just wondered if any of you out there have experienced the same problem as I have. When starting from cold there is a loud rattle from the left hand side of the engine until the oil light goes out, had a similar problem with my 993 which was rectified by changing the cam chain tensioners does the GT3 suffer in the same way? Also there is a slight oil leak from the cam chain cover on the same side of the engine. The car has done 28k miles.
