  1. Loren, et al., Stripped the oil pan drain plug...at this point nothing will get it out. Under the circumstances, is my best (and only) option to replace the oil pan cover, gasket, etc.? In doing this, will the bulkhead or any other internal components drop out or need to be replaced?...that is, besides the 9-qts. of oil? Any suggestions? Thanks in advance.
  2. Can't get into any of the modules, via Durametric or PST2. All are ghosted-out. The error the PST2 throws is essentially the same (albeit different exception code) as what Durametric throws: unable to access any modules. I can only get basic ECU information...VIN, running hours, number of starts, etc. So I can see this detail, but cannot get to the different modules. DBudd
  3. Need some help understanding what may be causing a PST2 to be unable to communicate with may '00 C2's ECU. I am getting the following error: Negative Response: Unknown Negative Response: 0x3B Essentially, the PST2 can connect but is unable to see any of the available modules that should be coming up. It's almost as if the ECU is in a "lock out" mode. Anyone with more PST2 experience than I able to help explain what may be causing this? Or suggestions on how to fix? The PST2 work fine, I get similar results using Durametric software. Any input welcomed. Best. DBudd
  4. Dave, Not sure if this is a VW/Audi part, but I believe the Porsche part numbers are as follows: -fanfare (high-pitched) 996 635 206 04 -fanfare (low-pitched) 996 635 205 04 Are there any references to a VAG number/ID on the horn?
  5. Dharn55, You might want to check out my comments in the following post: http://www.renntech.org/forums/index.php?showtopic=8343&hl= That said, your only option is to find a used set of cans and pull the mounting bracket off. You can use some of the parts from your new one. My suggestion is to look online, contact a tuner, or visit your local Porsche service center. There should be plenty of older mufflers available that you can use to slice & dice for the mounting bracket you need to swap onto your new PSE. Try Oklahoma Foreign, as well. Best. David
  6. Kevin, I have PSE and think I recognize what it is your describing. Generally on a cold startup I get more resonance than when the engine is warmed up. For example, while in neutral & after a cold start, I'll rev the engine (4500-5000RPM)...only to get a much louder sounding exhaust note. This is the only time I get any resemblance to mild/loud resonance. I wouldn't classify this as an exhaust/header leak by any means...assuming you are experiencing the same on your end. When warmed up, everything sounds good. Anyway, not sure this helps, just another perspective.
  7. I think your right about the coding....just dug up something in the workshop manuals: 1. Connect and switch on the Porsche System Tester 2. 2. Select air conditioning and menu item "System test". The following conditions must be observed for the system test: -Vehicle speed < 10 km/h -Engine start detected and 10 seconds elapsed since engine start -Terminal 15 supply voltage OK -5 Volt supply voltage OK -Engine temperature < 110 DC -Outside temperature> 3 DC The following tests are performed: -Display of all segments in the control module -The drive motors are traversed across the entire range once -The measured positioning travel is subjected to a plausibility test and stored as a fault if necessary. -Two different voltage values are set on the fresh-air fan and tested -The A/C circuit is tested via the DME All fault paths are tested, and any faults are stored -Basic adaptation has been completed after the system test. The display must no longer flash. I guess this explains the LCD flashing. I'll borrow a PST2 & give it a try. Thanks. DBudd
  8. '01 C2. Was told this part would work for all 996s with climate control...only difference was the matte colored buttons. Maybe not?
  9. Looking for some clarification... I recently swapped out a damaged climate control unit with a new one (part no. 99665310109). Everything looks good (on screen), but nothing works. No A/C, heat, ventilation, fan speeds, etc. When the engine is powered on, both sides of the climate control display blink for approx. 20 seconds, then stops. I also noticed that the fan speed bars will increase (up to four bars)...then repeat. Nothing is set to automatic. Finally, I am unable to change the temperature from celsius to farenheight (by holding the recycle air button then pressing the (+) temp button). So, all of this leads me to believe that at least one of the following statements are true: 1) I have a bad climate control unit 2) This part is not compatible with my model year 3) A PS2 is required to setup (or re-setup) the functions governing the climate control I'm leaning towards #3. Anyone with any experience in this area? Thanks in advance. David
  10. rychone, I agree with 1999Porsche911 regarding the "...check the wiring for the o2 sesnors" recommendaations....espepcially if your getting a P0140 fault. Could simply be bad wiring.
  11. VM, Try sending your question to Dave Martin @ Wheel Enhancements. David Martin [dave@wheelenhancement.com] He's a good guy, propbably has unmounted front & rear 5-spoke rims he could weigh for you. Or, he probably already knows the answer from shipping so many of them across the country... Good luck. DBudd
  12. Adam, The muffler hanger on the latest PSE is not compadible with the bolt pattern of the mounting bracket. You'll need to swap the hanger off your old muffler & onto the new PSE muffler in order to mount on your body year. So word of advice, don't trash your old muffler...as the original hanger from your old muffler is no longer available to order seperately. Good luck.
  13. No advice, here....but, you might want to rethink giving your keys out again. ;)
  14. Rick, Give GAHH a call. I have not used, but have heard they do nice work. I'm pretty sure they are an OEM to Porsche. http://www.gahh.com/996-cabriolet-1999-sea...5_339_2990.html You might find what your looking for at a better price than going to your local dealer. Good luck.
  15. R, Can't comment on reputable 3M/Xpel installers in the Chicago area, but the price sounds fair assuming the amount of work to be done. I recently paid $795 for coating the sideskirts, gas tank cover, door handles, front bumper, rear bumper (GT trim), door sills, hood, mirrors, and wheel wells. Pretty much covers it. Good luck with the work...I should have had it done sooner.
  16. Dell (and all self-installed PSE-brothers), I just received my PSE & had planned to do the entire install in my garage (I do want to have the cutout switch). I quoted myself 20 TU's. ;) If I get crunched for time, how difficult do you think it'd be to install the electronics down the road...just getting the exhaust hooked up initially. Not sure if it's one of those things where it gets more difficult to do the electronics after the fact...or it'd be about the same level of effort regardless if it was done all at once or down the road. Any thoughts would be appreciated. Best. DBudd
  17. Gregg, It's not a very uncommon part, often replaced due to rock damage. Here's some info & a diagram: Part No. Description --------------- --------------- 99650439301 Cover Satin Black /L (#7) 99650439401 Cover Satin Black /R (#7) 99650489300 Rubber Lip /L (#8) 99650489400 Rubber Lip /R (#8) Located in the "Linings for Underbody" section of PET. Hope this helps.
  18. B, They appear to be codes for any/all options that include the Dark Burr Walnut/Maple finish. XKC = Side Air Vent in Dark Burr Walnut/Maple XKH = Defroster Trim in Dark Burr Walnut/Maple, Leather XKN = Loud Speaker Grill in Dark Burr Walnut/Maple XKS = Center Console Support Frame in Dark Burr Walnut/Maple XNW = Trim Strip in Dark Burr Walnut/Maple XPX = Instrument Surround in Dark Burr Walnut/Maple XPK = XTK? Door Features in Dark Burr Walnut/Maple Hope this helps.
  19. Thanks, Loren. I wasn't sure if anyone knew which of the 8 or so individual part numbers listed below the main wiring harness part number was specific to the interior light assembly only. I suppose I could have all ordered to cover my bases...imagine they can't be very expensive. Best. DBudd
  20. Hi. I'm trying to find a part number for the female-end connector used to connect the passenger compartment wiring harness to the dome/interior light (996.632.053.10) for an 02- Coupe. This is the white plastic 3-pin connector on the wiring harness, not the plastic male connector soldered onto the circuit board of the interior light assembly. This might be a VW part? I'd really do not want to have to purchase the entire wiring harness just for a single connector. It's difficult to identify if this part is listed in PET under 996.612.903.00. Any help would be appreciated.
  21. T, I fit your dimensions & had the same problems when I swapped my plugs. Patience & the correct set of tools will make this less of a challenge. If you haven't done so already, you may want to remove the headers to give yourself a bit more elbow room. Just a thought.
  22. Pat, The piece of trim yuor referring to is simply called a "rubber lip" per PET. This is part of the front wheel housing liner assembly. The replacement parts for these items are: 996-504-503-00 Left Side 996-504-504-00 Right Side I don't have the pricing currently, but from past experience, it isn't too much. The one's for the rear are about $17/per. Hope this helps.
  23. OE, Part number 996.613.987.10.A05 should be the latest for left side drivers. Best.
